I remember seeing that and thinking "oh jim carrey is so funny" not realizing it's Carell that does the work, this was the movie that introduced me to him.
It's worth watching the deleted scenes. There's a whole sequence about the consequences of his universal "yeses" to answered prayers, how things were "supposed" to have played out with the hardships, and how his easy out messed them up. No idea why they were deleted, they really make the movie for me.
The scene where Bruce is messing with Evan and he eventually Steve Carrell is just spewing nonsense is still one of the funniest things I have ever seen. The outtakes from that scene are even more hilarious😂
There's a delete scene where Evan's hair actually catches on fire just after that. When Bruce is apologizing later to Evan, he restorer's Evan's hair line.
The scene where Bruce parts the tomato soup is a recreation of the scene from The Ten Commandments where Moses parts the Red Sea, same music and everything, whoever decided to film that scene in particular was brilliant.
In the scene where Bruce is making Evan (Steve Carell) babble and freak out on-air, the actress playing the co-anchor was laughing so hard the whole time that they had to edit her almost completely out of it.
fun fact: that scene is also the reason Steve Carell won the part. He was the only actor that auditioned that could keep up with Jim. PS: that actress is Catherine Bell. She is most known for Bruce Almighty and J.A.G.
I based a whole D&D OneShot character on the “I work in back; I see no smiles” line from the baker in the opening. It’s just a perfectly delivered line 😂
You might know him for his last two recent news appearances... One with Lady Gaga, as they collaborated on an album (Love for Sale/2021) and Concert Tour: One Last Time (2021). More recently, the news was about his passing (July 21, 2023).
I always love how much of the music you notice. Especially when it's orchestral. Every little chime, string run or delicate woodwind line meant to evoke a certain mood or emotion, you pick up on.
Fun Fact, Clint Eastwood helped Jim Carrey break into showbiz by giving him a minor part in his Dirty Harry movie, “The Dead Pool” Liam Nelson was in that movie too.
I think this is going to be right up Jen's alley. Humor, a good story plus a good love story and a great ending. I'm going to get to see a very pleased Jen, I believe.
Somehow movies always get blood types wrong. AB+ is a universal recipient, meaning *you* can receive any type for a transfusion, but your blood can only be used for other AB+ patients. O- is a universal donor, anyone can receive your blood, but you can only receive O-.
29:30 It's a Wonderful Life. The protagonist, played by Jimmy Stewart is having a bad day. At one point he even contemplates suicide, speculating the world would be better off without him. His wish is granted and he gets to see the world where he had never been born. It's a touching movie, perfect for Christmas (hint hint it is the 14th of December, 2024)
I suggest any of Jim's more normal roles, he is good at not only comedy. Eternal Sunshine, The Majestic, Truman Show, Man on the Moon. He has a lot of great comedies, but i like his more serious roles better, shows off his acting talent.
Yeah, by this point Jim Carey was keen to "segue" out of the 90s OTT wackiness. The year after he made "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", which is a _great_ movie IMO that's _very_ not his usual thing up to that point (it has _tiny flashes_ of his physical comedy but very minor).
Back when I made money I bought a massage-chair from Japan because my back killed the weak and unworthy of those who attempted to assist my problems. A later partner got me a walking massage and they were used to my situation and it really helped me! If you like the lighter side rather than deep, skip it!
🙄 Listen to what Morgan Freeman says at 16:04 and then look what happens at 24:15. 🤨 This is why film critics were never fond of Tom Shadyac movies. Continuity was never his strong suit. 🤓 On a happier note, you will absolutely LOVE "The Mask" (1994) for two reasons: It includes the single most lovable dog in the history of cinema, and once again, Jim Carrey does his famous Clint Eastwood imitation. 🤠 If you like Steve Carell, check out "Over The Hedge" (2006). William Shatner and Avril Levigne play father & daughter in that one! 😎👍

Evan Almighty stars Steve Carrel reprises his role as Evan Baxter and Morgan Freeman plays God. In this 2007 film Evan Baxter is a congressman who declares he will change the world. This film focuses on Genesis 6:14.
When Bruce has his epiphany during the riots and cries out to God that he needs help, there's a really great deleted part they cut out during the mopping scene. God shows Bruce a few examples why his answering "Yes" to everyone was wrong because it sets them on a completely different life path. One of them shows a kid asking God for help with his bullies. Bruce says yes, the kid beats up his bullies, but then he instead goes on to become a pro wrestler instead of the artist that he was going to be.
20:28 Roger Ebert said in his review that the dog using the toilet made him laugh so hard that the people around him were giving him looks! 🤣 PS, he gave the movie 3 out of 4 stars.
At 03:11, Jim Carrey does a pretty darned good Walter Cronkite, whose sign off was "And that's the way it is." It was Edward R. Murrow who said "Good night and good luck." Any iconic Canadian anchors, Jen? I could make several bad jokes about what their sign offs might be, involving hockey, doughnuts, Molson, etc., but I wouldn't stoop to such sophomoric, stereotype humor! Uh oh, I just did! 😊
That's what I always say, too. In both movies his character is kind of a jerk, who undergoes a magical spell of some kind, and then undergoes a redemptive character arc.
A classic entry in the "miserable asshole finding happiness" genre. You, too, can be shitty at work but keep your job, and cheat on your girlfriend but still marry her! All it takes is faith. 📿
That poor dog! He's ready to burst, while Bruce is standing there making faces at himself in the mirror. When you have a dog, you take him out first thing in the morning, everyone knows that. I'm an OR nurse, so I leave for work around 6 AM every weekday. And every morning I see the same four neighbors trudging past my house, with their dogs. Half asleep, wearing coats over pajamas sometimes.
Man on the Moon is excellent, I'd forgotten about that one. A biopic comedy/drama about Andy Kaufman. Great song in the film, written for it by R.E.M (song also called 'Man on the moon').
Great reaction. I love this movie. The hardest I have ever laughed was watching this in the theater with about five of my friends and it was during the part where Bruce is manipulating Evan to talk all that gibberish. It was so damn funny, especially in a theater full of people that were all laughing as much as we were. That was incredible and a top 10 theater experience for me. I like Evan Amighty as well. I don't think it is quite as funny, but it is close, and it is a good movie too.

I love Jim Carrey’s performance in Bruce Almighty since it’s my third favorite of his after Dumb and Dumber and Liar Liar! The soundtrack is a real standout throughout the movie and i can’t get enough of it.
I agree with Bruce about the blood drive. The one time that I donated blood, they freaked out. They were all like, "where did you get it? Why is it in a bucket?"
When Bruce was interrupting Evan's newscast, making Evan's voice go shrill and changing his wording, he was interfering with Evan's free will. Evan did not willingly make a fool of himself.
The worst joke in the movie. Why does Hollywood always trash the so-called "dark ages"? (Answer: because they have no idea what actually happened, as their terrible historical dramas make painfully obvious.) The "dark ages" weren’t any worse than other periods in human history, and the term "dark" wasn’t even meant to describe them as bad. Historians originally called it that because we had little information about the era-it was a "dark" spot in our knowledge. Modern historians don’t use the term anymore-at least, not the reputable ones.
Liar Liar is a good Jim Carrey comedy. Also, Carrey’s very first movie - Peggy Sue Got Married- is worth a watch. Carrey has a bit part. Movie stars Katherine Turner and Nicholas Cage, it’s a “time travel” movie but from the female perspective.
Fun movie and Sam the dog was awesome! Jim and Jennifer had good chemistry! The impression JC was doing wearing the yellow glasses was sammy davis jr. I will always see god with morgan freeman's face!! 😁 Evan Almighty is worth watching! Thanks Jen ❤️💛
