  • In this video you’re going to find lots of practical tips. The place is massive so it’s worth strategising to get the most out of your experience!
    What activities are available?
Feeding times are your best bet at getting close to birds. The times have to be booked in advance on the website here: www.mandai.com/en/bird-paradi... They are very popular, so do book early. Keeper talks are also a good time to see the birds. No need to book, just turn up. Of course, you’ll want to catch some shows. I’ve combined the schedule for everything here:
    Weekday Schedule
Heart of Africa starling feeding - 9.30am
Wings of Asia pelican feeding - 10am
Predators on Wings show - 10.30am
Lory Loft lory feeding - 11am
Crimson Wetlands macaw keeper talk - 12pm
Wings of the World show - 12.30pm
Mysterious Papua cassowary feeding - 1pm
Penguin Cove keeper talk - 1.30pm
Heart of Africa starling feeding - 2pm
Predators on Wings show - 2.30pm
Wings of Asia hornbill talk - 3pm
Lory Loft lory feeding - 3.30pm
Songs of the Forest keeper talk - 4pm
Wings of the World show - 5pm

Is the ticket price worth it?
From now till 26 May 2023, there is a $10 discount but if you’re a family, it really can add up. I do think you will have an absolutely wonderful time at this amazing attraction and it’s worth top dollar, but I think getting the annual Friends of Wildlife pass is a better deal. This gives you access to all 4 wildlife parks and 20% discount on all F&B and merchandise for a year. Looking at the individual adult membership, if you just visit Bird Paradise 5 times in one year, that’ll cover the membership price. There are family memberships where the bigger your family, the better the value.
When is the best time to go?
Go as early in the morning as you can as it’s cooler and the birds are most active. If your kids are early risers, you can bring a picnic to Mandai Wildlife West which is a free public park, or grab breakfast at the Starbucks which overlooks a playground, and the fun can begin even before Bird Paradise opens at 9am.
Can I go when it is raining?
I don’t recommend it because the aviaries are not sheltered. If you’re at the park on the day and it rains heavily, you can talk to guest services at the entrance to ask if you can come back another day. They will make the judgment call and if they agree the rain was too heavy, they will validate your ticket for you to return within 2 weeks. I suppose if you have not come to the park yet and you can see it is raining heavily, you can call them up to ask.
How much time should I set aside?
I don’t think it’s possible to do everything even if you spend the whole day here. The place is huge and Singapore is very hot so especially if you have small children, it’s probably good to take in the park in 3 hour chunks. That’s why the membership is such a good idea. You don’t feel the pressure of having to do everything.
    Other highlights:
    Best for high energy kids:
Take the shuttle and make a beeline for the Egg Splash waterplay at cooler hours of the day as it is totally exposed to the sun. Hit the Treetop Play area any time as it’s shaded.
For bird nerds: Winged Sanctuary. This is where you’ll find the rarest birds in the collection and learn about the Mandai group’s conservation efforts. Don’t miss Heart of Africa, the largest aviary in Bird Paradise. Remember to bring binoculars to get a better view of the birds engaging in natural behaviours.
Where can I hide if it gets too hot?
Take refuge in Penguin Cove during the hottest part of the day. This is the best place for kids to nap in their prams too if you are spending the whole day here. Look out for transition zones, especially the ones which are highly interactive and educational. These areas help prevent bird escapes and also provide much needed respite from the heat. There is also a small air conditioned room at Egg Splash.
    What dining options are available?
Penguin Cove Cafe, Food Central, Crimson and Egg Splash Cafe. Bird Bakery and the Penguin Cove Restaurant are not open yet. If none of these tickle your fancy, you could head out to Mandai Wildlife West but the 20% discount for members doesn’t apply to the F&B here.

I went to jurong bird park in 1997 when I worked in Singapore, a truly amazing place. Why they moved to mandai?

Because that's also where the Singapore Zoo,River Safari and Night Safari are located. The whole idea is to transform the Mandai area into a mega nature attraction.

Yah, its true that we shouldn't go if it rains. But tickets are booked online in advance. So how to 'not go' if it rains on the day that you booked?

Oh yes after I made the video I did ask about this. If you’re at the park on the day and it rains heavily, you can talk to guest services at the entrance to ask if you can come back another day. They will make the judgment call and if they agree the rain was too heavy, they will validate your ticket for you to return within 2 weeks.
