No. A "steering gear" is a gearbox; this is a motorized actuator and control system. While the functions are overlapping, they are really not the same.
This is worst concept in all over automotive history ever!! they saying fully redundant but what if it hacked or electrical, CAN failure? many people have seen airplane accident which occured by hydraulic loss in fly by wire system, but they do not perceive and do not make it better. make it worse instead.

@@gouravfromuk planes have redundancy and typically they aren't in situations where if a fault occurs they will crash straight into a building or other cars. Planes have minutes to recover failed software command directives or a reboot where a vehicle has less than milliseconds.
