Most of the farmers that are protesting are really rich and were employed in middleman services which the government has now decided to abolish which is a really good decision according to me and MY RELATIVES WHO ARE FARMERS IN UTTAR PRADESH
A few days ago, i actually went down to the places where the farmers have blocked the roads. Its not a joke. Although they have set up a sort of camp and there are many people serving free food (langar) to anyone and everyone who needs it, it is not like they are enjoying it. Mandis are regulated by the Govt. Then how they will collapse if the Govt ensures and agrees on giving written assurance on MSP? 50% of India is directly or indirectly linked with agriculture then why would the Govt take harsh steps in favour of Corporates? They would in return get shortage in Tax collections if they do so. Also not to mention that such reforms were being waited for too long, the Congress has it in manifesto for 2019 General elections then why they are opposing it now?
@@eternalks6872 Can you please clarify 1. Agriculture is a state subject as part of the Indian Constitution. So why is the government using provision 33 in the concurrent list to pass this bill? 2. Ordinance is used during unprecedented times like war why the government brought these bills as an ordinance when the parliament was not in session. What was the urgency? 3. What is the need for another parallel market to the existing APMC mandis? If you think APMC mandis are inefficient with arthiyas, bring reforms to the current system to streamline instead of introducing a private market. 4. Government is saying we are not taking away APMC and MSP but a new private marketplace where you can sell anywhere in India. When Jio came into the market, they offered SIMs free of cost. After finishing the competition, they raised rates. Similarly, Jio finished BSNL. Current APMC and MSP are waiting to meet the same fate. In the first few years, corporates will pay a higher price than MSP. This will make Mandis and MSP redundant and finally going away like BSNL. Now corporates will define the price. This happened in Bihar in 2006 to give you an example. 5. BJP, in their 2014 and 2019 manifesto, promised to implement the Swaminathan report, which will allow farmers to get C2+50% on 23 crops. What happened to that manifesto. 6. What are the regulations of the new digital exchange they proposed in Bill#1. Details are missing. Who will manage this exchange? E.g., the Stock market has SEBI as a regulatory agency. Which agency will drive this new market? What are the rules and regulations? 7. Bill#2 - In contract farming, corporates can mortgage farmer’s land. Why? 8. Farmers can't go to civil court in case of a dispute. Why? 9. Bill #3 - Essential commodity act. Now the hoarding is allowed, which was illegal before. Since corporates are already building weather-controlled silos to store grains and vegetables, as a simple demand-supply economy, corporates will create artificial demand, and prices of commodities will go up. We have seen this as an example of onion prices going up in the past. 10. With unlimited storage, this will allow corporates to export, taking supply away from the local market again, making prices go up. There are no regulations around buffer size for corporates to maintain. 11. If the government defines MSP at which farmer can sell their crop, why they don't determine the maximum selling price for corporates. In Madhya Pradesh, potatoes sold for 8 rupees were sold in the malls for 80 rupees. 10x markup. Let the government say you can only sell for 2-3x. The regulations should apply to both farmers and corporates. Why corporates get preferential treatment?
@Indra Sena yes competition not monopoly. By setting fair ground for farmers not just for two big houses. It should have been announced for all and long term plan should have been made to slowly bring reforms consensus based reforms while protecting farmers interest as well.

@@shamiksinha4808 you used a lot of words to basically say nothing. How about you explain how this law benefits farmers in any way? Instead of removing protections, the government could’ve expanded the regulated market and provided benchmarks for more types of crops. They could buy all the crops as middlemen and sell them to distributors themselves providing a guaranteed buyer for farmers. What they ended up doing is not a solution and will only exacerbate farmers’ problems as they will be at the mercy of private buyers. The government made their problems worse, obviously they are complaining. They’re not being listened to
@@inamib.9786 it benefits them by providing an alternative market to sell their goods into, this bill has not changed anything from the system we had for years, it has added another way into the system that the farmers may take if they want to. Even if we assume the worst possible scenario, the farmers would be the last ones to be affected adversely, because the Mandis will still be there for them. Also, i would advice you to stop spreading misinformation. Farmers will not be left at the mercy of the private players. That's because this new bill makes it compulsory for the buyers/private entities to enter into a contract with the farmers much before the sowing process even begins. So that means, the price of the produce, quality of seeds used and the amount of fertilizers needed will be decided by the mutual agreement between the farmers and traders/buyers/etc beforehand.
It pains me to say it but you guys are still not educated enough to decide what is right or wrong for the country. This protest's only aim is to show the Central Govt in negative way. Do you remember about Shaheen Bagh and the Delhi Riots as well as CAA protests? What's common between these two is that in both protests, protesters take a street and occupy it for months, they also try to show BJP's actions in a bad way. And if you can't understand CAA protests and what were it's aims, then you can't understand this protest. The truth is, more than half of the protesters are disguised as farmers. If there are more people, I can say with confidence that most of them are just protesting for money, money can buy huge crowds and create an illusion. People's opinions sometimes need to be kept aside, some laws aren't easy enough to be understood by the people and so their opinion on those laws is not legit. Moreover, this protest has many Khalistani elements and there are proofs of it. The Left and Congress are also supporting this protest because congress want a topic for argument against the govt. The govt. tried to convince farmers for 11th times but the Farmers are simply ignoring the government's proposals. How can farmers protest against a law which they haven't tried yet. So at the end of the day, it becomes evident that the farmers aren't protesting against the laws, they are protesting just to show our government in bad light. And if you support congress, remember the Emergency, remember that Congress was made a Britisher, remember that it's the same party who partitioned India, remember that it was congress under which the Indian army lost against the PLA, remember that the Gandhi family is not a direct successor of Mahatma Gandhi, remember Article 370. Ok this is just dishonest "reporting". Some arguments anyone who cares: - Farmer suicides due to crippling debt are a direct result of the existing laws and hence reforms are desperately needed. You cant use these tragedies occuring since decades as an argument against the new laws. - All the protesting political parties have themselves proposed these reforms in the past. - A large number of farmers have also come out in support of the new laws. You don't generally go on a strike or demonstrate for a law that is passed, so this is a big statement. - Finally, a decrease in percentage of agriculture in total GDP does not imply the agri sector is getting smaller. The agri sector in India is still huge and growing. Its percentage is decreasing simply because India is Industrialising and its economy is growing. These basic errors show that this is poor reporting. Yes this policy can and will require tweaking over time just like every other policy. But the basic essence of giving farmers more freedom and flexibility is key. And yes, the government has been terrible at communicating and managing this. But the laws themselves are desperately needed to get rid of middlemen and mafias that result in farmers getting only 5-10% of retail prices.
Exactly!!! I am glad someone said it. These were the exact points that came in my head. Kudos to you. Western media and especially white people are mostly clueless about how things work in our country. (And people praising her for pronouncing things right are the most clueless here!! You are absolutely right. American media cannot grasp the fact that a poor democracy doesn't want to stay poor and rely on American aid to be used as a tool in domestic politics. They make these videos bashing market reforms from the comfort of their free market systems. Horrible reporting.
So to boil this whole thing in simplest possible form: Indian farmers doesn't want to set their own prices with capitalistic systems, instead they want to let other people set their prices? If they can organize protests this size i think they can organize some sort of consensus on minimum and highest prices what comes to their produces. Oh but wait, capitalism makes you responsible of your own work.....
Yea have you ever seen what happens when the private sector takes over and theres less government protection? Take americas drug problem for an example. 200$ for a single insulin shot while its worth not much more then 5-10$. If india privatizes the farmers markets they can lowball the farmers for tbeir crops and if farmers deny the prices they will find other farmers to supply them. Why would other farmers supply them you ask? Maybe because farmers are people too with families and mouths to feed who are already struggling to keep there heads above water and these bills are making sure there head stays below water.
I too also from Canada and I also love the farmers. Whenever I buy basmati rice and atta, and other Indian produces, the thoughts of these suppressed farmers come to my mind!!! May God help these hopeless great people of India.

Thanks for your kind wishes and support. But what is shown in this video is half truth. Not sure of Vox agenda, but it sure hides information. I am a farmer and let me explain you. I am not allowed to sell my own crops in any market of my choice. I am forced to sell in the market that is linked to my area. I may be in the border of a district and the market of other district could be nearer but I am not allowed to sell there. I cannot sell my crops outside of market to anyone. Although Vox shows "regulated market" it doesn't mention that i an bound to only one market. Impressive right? Now the new rule has removed that condition. I can sell it to either that market or to a corporation or anywhere else. Now you decide whether its good or bad. And 2 states out of 28 states are against this, there is a reason for that also. . The same fate happened to Australian farmers, deregulation of the dairy market in the 2000s with milk prices, the small size farms could not make ends meet against the big corporations who have dominance on pricing. From 88% in Victoria state in 1983 with deregulation in the 2000s to just 33 % now as dairy farms collapsed. Minimum Support Price also is not mentioned in the law bills, so it can turn too horrible for farmers.
@@rightlibertarian8355 I was speaking about changes in the farming market as I for example used the past examples of deregulation in the Australian milk production market in early 2000'a. It can be safely applied to India. In Australia, before the deregulation laws, there were a lot more milk-producing small farms, but they went bust when the deregulation laws were confirmed as big corporations had unfair dominance considering the three new laws for India. The same thing is going to happen in India with small farms be it dairy, fruit, or vegetable growers for example as big corporations will take over and small number farmer count will shrink as in the first example.

Indra Sena the new laws are depended upon on the honesty of corporates and we’ll discuss need to elaborate😅
Thats what governments and politicians do , never listen to the people who voted them in.
@@eternalks6872 Can you please clarify

What they ended up doing is not a solution and will only exacerbate farmers’ problems as they will be at the mercy of private buyers.

Some arguments anyone who cares:
- Farmer suicides due to crippling debt are a direct result of the existing laws and hence reforms are desperately needed.

I think he they meant by 15% is that, farming couldn't keep up with growth of other sectors. But as other sectors grew, the peoples of other sectors are spending more money and increasing prices of all goods.
As farmers are lagging behind, they don't have the same amount of buying power they had with almost the same amount of money they earned in the 60s.

The deregulation isn't bad, and the farmers can always join a co-op and use that as a "union" of sorts to get good prices. This is what is happening
@mrandhawa In the APMCs there is no auction. The middlemen have a cartel over there and then procure crops below MSP and then sell above MSP. The farmers can't sell in any other districts according to law. Now it is not like tht farmers can sell to anybody they want at whatever price they want and wherever they want. What is wrong in this. And whatever the govt used to procure usually rots in the warehouses so what is wrong in tht
@Curious Boy Is it a compulsory part of your job to add the words madarsa, jihadi, pakistan etc in every social media comment of yours? Do you not get paid your 2 Rs otherwise?
The farmers had been asking for these reforms since the 1980's, now that they got the reforms, with more capitalistic policies, then you seem to be mad.
i'm glad that their voices are being heard and i really hope more people talk about this
Do you even know what they are protesting for? They are protesting against anti- pollution laws. They are protesting to free Anti- India liberals like Umar Khaled who had planned the Delhi riots. Had to come back here after finally winning our cause. Farmers can all go back to their families after months and months of hardships.
Not yet. Government needs to walk it's talk (which it has a tendency not to) by actually repealing them in parliament and guaranteeing MSP. Until then, there's no rest for farmers.
The farm laws would have benefitted the poorer farmers ,,too bad

Here in Indonesia we have dual system where the government stockers have 60% of total quota to ensure that any market manipulation attempt by private corporations will be negated by government controlled stockers.
But the rates on which indian government buys is more than international markets so it’s more economical to import and most of the purchased grain is spoiled because no one would buy at high price from the government!

2:16 “open auctions with transparent pricing” this is the whole issue. Neither the auctions are open nor the pricing transparent. The arthias (dealers) group up in each mandi and decide a common highest bid, above which no other arthia will go. Ground reality is very different then theory. The arthias are bullies. And their is no real oversight in the mandis. The people who are meant to actually overlook the functioning of mandi and protect the farmers do the exact opposite. They team up with the arthias or more precisely, they issue the arthia license only to their family members/relatives to gain monopoly over the market.
