    Rhythm section chords only behind the first part of the guitar solo at approx 2:16.
    I don't discuss all the chords behind the entire solo, only the break sections at the beginning.

    What a terrific lesson! Thank you so much for sharing this. Your chord work is fantastic. I'm a Jazzmaster fan too, I have a 66 which I've owned since when I was 15, and a identical 65 reissue.

    I have looked for this for a while. I couldn't get it on my own. You are the only place on the Internet with these changes! Thanks.

    I find this to be the most difficult part of the entire song
    thank you so much for breaking it down it's amazing of dozens of guys playing the solo and a few others really doing a fine job of the verse chords you are the only person I found who have broken down the rhythm cords during the solo
    I imagine this is because it's been too difficult everyone

    • @KenLasaine
      @KenLasaine  3 роки тому +1

      I don't know if it's because it's that difficult, it's just not that exciting to discuss (or even learn). Guitar players generally are "lead guitar" focused and the solo in this tune is arguably one of the greatest moments in the entire history of rock guitar. Honestly, I wouldn't have made a tutorial if someone hadn't requested it. I'm glad they did because apparently there are folks out there who do want to know what's going on there. Anyway, I'm glad you found it worthy of your time and thanks for viewing!

    Very cool! Glad I found this. It makes Carlton's soloing abilities even more impressive...as if that were possible!

      Thanks for viewing. I'm glad you appreciate it! And I totally agree with you. He plays a very 'rock' guitar solo over jazz chord changes.

    I spent time working out the solo and now the band can’t play it because this chord work underneath is just too complex. Thanks for helping out!

    • @KenLasaine

      Now there's some irony. A lot of the 'now' current on-line chord charts have the solo section correct.

      @@KenLasaine Every internet teacher is so anxious to show themselves playing the solo! But if you don't know the underlying changes, it's hard to make sense of the notes. NICE JOB!

    • @KenLasaine
      @KenLasaine  4 роки тому +1

      @@davidrkennedy1 I've always been more interested in 'why' the soloists pick the notes they play, hence wanting to know and understand the underlying chord changes. As great a solo as it is - it's been played.

    Nice job. Somewhere in my stuff I have the Aja real book. There aren't too many cowboy chords in that one. They referenced something called a " mu major" chord, which is really no more than a major 9th, I think. Anyway thanks...I learned the solo the other day, now I'll get the solo chords.

    • @KenLasaine
      @KenLasaine  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, and thanks for checking it out and commenting. The 'Mu' chord is as you note, just a major 9 chord and is them messing with the press - a Steely Dan "wink and a smile".

    That's a busy little section! It would maybe b easier to play the solo!😆 I'm working on learning this right now thank you!!

    • @KenLasaine
      @KenLasaine  3 роки тому +2

      It definitely makes it easier to understand the solo! That's why I did it. There are a million tutorials on how to play the actual Larry Carlton solo but no one ever mentions what chords it's over.

  • @natecorning
    @natecorning 4 роки тому +1

    great job explaining the chords... but what about the chords towards the end of the solo? lol this only covered 80% of the solo

    • @KenLasaine
      @KenLasaine  4 роки тому +2

      That wasn't the focus of this little lesson but if you can tell me exactly where in the solo you need the chords I'll be happy to tell you.

      Well....thanks to Ken I've been playing it for some time. Although some chords make my arthritic fingers scream so I had to do the best I could with a short cut or two chord wise. But....I mustered up some courage, recorded a play-along video and uploaded to YT. ....I'm new at this stuff.
      So.....here's my channel and how I play KC.....hope that helps a bit and you found it worthy of your viewing.

    I believe that whole solo was patched together from several takes...this comes from that entire culture of multi track recording.

    • @KenLasaine
      @KenLasaine  4 роки тому +1

      Only two takes cut together, I believe at the modulation.
