    It amazing you can pack all that in a 75L pack. I have all the same size pack and gear minus the hatchet, chair, and my cook set is a bit smaller, yet I still have trouble getting it all stowed.

    Awesome breakdown of your gear! I keep my 70L pack around for winter trips now. So much more gear! 🤣 I've never packed in a stove (and hot tent) but I'm definitely going to have to give that a try! Looking forward to your thoughts on the titanium stove!

    Good video mate. I use a similar pack (BD Mission 75) and I find it's great for most things, however, also a bit small for extreme cold weather trips. I find at -40F, you just need so much extra to maintain that bit of safety margin.

    Any thoughts on pulling a sled behind vs wearing the pack on your back?

    • @JustinOutdoors
      @JustinOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      Sleds don't work as well in the mountains. Easier/faster to just carry the gear

    Hi Justin, I would be very interested for a similar video with how you did a 7 day food carry with your zerk40. I just bought the pack and have started messing with it but would love to see how you do it.

    Nice vid Justin! Could you comment on the Firemaple Blade 2 for extra cold temps? At what temp would you move to MSR whisperlite plus white gas?

    • @JustinOutdoors
      @JustinOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      I've used the fire maple in -20C and it was working pretty well. -20C to -30C is probably where I'd rely on the whisperlite with iso more. Switching out to the white gas at -30C.

    Why do you prefer to pack the sleeping bag and quilt loose instead of using a stuff sack or compression sack?

    • @KyriSvk
      @KyriSvk 2 роки тому +4

      My guess for the main reason is that you can shove them into cracks and fill the bag more efficient.

    • @antpop1
      @antpop1 2 роки тому +1

      @@KyriSvk That's correct. Also by packing them loose means you compress them only as needed to fit the other items in your pack. That way you avoid over-compressing and extend the longevity of their insulation effectiveness

    You mention being comfortable at -40 degree temperatures a lot in your videos. I've watched many documentaries about the Oimyakon region in Russia, essentially the coldest place on earth and there seems to be a stark contrast to your approach to what is essentially a leisure pursuit for yourself and the daily toils of the inhabitants who live in similar temperatures having to go about their daily lives. You must have antifreeze for blood.

    • @DsdavisGaming
      @DsdavisGaming 2 роки тому +2

      It’s not like he lives in -40 all the time. Living in an environment like that is a different ballgame compared to a small trip.

      @@DsdavisGamingyup, sure is 👍🏼

    • @JustinOutdoors
      @JustinOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      It comes down to -40 at night too. During the day it can be a balmy -15 or -20. A big factor is not having to deal with more complicated machinery and shelters.

    Question. I am considering getting a hot tent set up. My question though is this. Do you load up the stove before you go to bed and let it burn or do you wait for the fire to die down before going to sleep to mitigate CO poisoning and fire risks?

    • @JustinOutdoors
      @JustinOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      I let it burn down as I brush my teeth and get ready for bed. It is usually burning a little bit as I fall asleep.
