Berlin Underground Rail: U5 at Berlin Central Station

- At the end of 2020 the underground line U5 of Berlin (Germany) was extended to Berlin central station. The platform of the underground is at the same level as the platforms for long distance trains in the lower part of the station, east of tracks 7 and 8.
Until 9 pm trains run every 5 minutes (as seen in April 2022, perhaps a special schedule due to the corona virus pandemic).
In 2022, Berlin central station is the western terminus of line U5. Perhaps the line will be extended towards Moabit. This is currently under discussion.
At the southern end of the station stairs and escalators lead to the platform. In the middle there's another access with an escalator and a lift. The lift also takes you down to the platform. The northmost platform access, leading also to the tram at street level, is currently (April 2022) a meeting point for refugees.
Servus Dirk, Merci für die Vorstellung der U 5 am Hbf Berlin. Ist ja jetzt eine vollständige Linie. Ich habe sie leider als damalige U 55 als Rumpfstrecke kennengelernt. Aber schön, das du ganz unten am Bahnsteig warst. Hier viel mir gleich der Spiegel für den Fahrer auf, wie in München.

Vielen Dank, Robert! Die Spiegel sind eine gute Lösung für die Selbstabfertigung durch den Zugfahrer, viel preiswerter als Kameras und viel weniger störanfällig. Allerdings funktionieren sie nur bei geraden Bahnsteigen. Aber es ergeben sich tolle Film- und Fotomotive! Viele Grüße und ein schönes Wochenende. Dirk

Vielen Dank, Thomas! Da bin ich durch einen verspäteten ICE mal wieder unverhofft zu Zeit am Berliner Hauptbahnhof gekommen. Die neuen U-Bahn-Züge bieten auch den Vorteil, dass man ganz hindurch gehen kann. So wird das Sicherheitsgefühl erhöht, und Fahrgäste können sich prinzipiell über den Zug verteilen. Ich weiß aber nicht, ob sie das tun - in Hamburg bleiben die meisten Leute nach dem Einsteigen doch dicht neben der Tür stehen. Schöne Grüße nach Bernburg. Dirk

Eine kleine Korrektur: Der im Video zu sehende, neuere Zug (Baureihe H) ist nicht die neuste Zug der Berliner U-Bahn. Der ist inzwischen auch ca. 20 Jahre alt.
Die Baureihe IK ist neuer und eigentlich ein Kleinprofilzug, der allerdings wegen des Wagenmangels im Großprofil auch auf der U5 verkehrt (auf den anderen Großprofillinien sind die Bahnsteige für die im Kleinprofil üblichen 8-Wagen-Züge zu kurz).
Muss aber auch sagen, dass ich den H-Zug am schönsten finde, z.B. wegen seiner vollständigen Begehbarkeit oder auch wegen des Sounds.
@@derF23 Habe ich behauptet, dass H die neueste Baureihe ist? Allerdings finde ich sie von der Formgebung her auch sehr gefällig.
Thank you for showing us, where to access the corridor to the U-Bahn. All the other video tours of the Hauptbahnhof for Berlin only show the S-Bahn, the regional trains and the long-distance trains. Now I know to walk toward the hall to the east of Platforms 7 and 8. I noticed the yellow BVG ticket kiosk on the platform and the ticket validation stamper. Do you know, if the 24-hour ticket can be purchased at this yellow kiosk? Do you know, if the 24-hour ticket for BVG can also be bought at the red DB ticket machines? I need to take the U-Bahn and a bus to visit my friend, so a DB train ticket doesn't serve my need.
Thank you. I don't know about the kiosk, but you should be able to get the 24-hour ticket at BVG ticket machines at the entrance to underground stations. You can also get it at DB ticket machines in Berlin when they sell tickets for suburban trains. Be aware that there are 3 types of tickets depending on the region you can use: AB for inner Berlin, BC for outer quarters and suburbs, ABC for the entire network. Check on a map at the ticket machine what you need. If in doubt, buy ABC. It costs only little more than AB. Have a nice stay.

Hello, this video helped me a lot but i have some questions. İ’ll come berlin 2 day later and i have never been there before so i have some troubles about that. My hotel is in gendarmenmarkt ( idk is it true:/ ) i’m gonna change the metro way unter den linden (u5 to u6) than gonna go my way.so sorry for my english but is it the true way to go my destination please give me some information about that 🙏
That's quite the right way from Berlin Hauptbahnhof (central station) to Gendarmenmarkt. You could also leave the underground at Unter den Linden and then walk over to your hotel. Maybe it's easier than changing underground trains.
