One important note that I don’t see get mentioned enough is that only four out of the 28 EU member states (at that time) took in 2/3 of ALL refugees - Germany, Sweden, France and Italy - that has led to clear consequences for all of them. While the consequences are relatively minimal (to my knowledge) in Germany, Italy and France, with the exception of the increasing support of the far-right. Bad yes, but not as bad as Sweden has gotten in the last decade. To make it clear I’m NOT blaming the immigrants for this but the rest of the EU for not being more willing to help out. We took in a ridiculous amount of refugees in proportion to, for example, the UK or Spain. [Sweden: 142,000, UK: 117,000 and Spain: 14,800] This resulted in an overwhelming amount of immigrants in Sweden that our system could not handle, nor did we have jobs or housing for all of them. So, most immigrants fell between the chairs and ended up outcast in the outskirts of the major cities, this caused a division between the refugees and Swedes that has effectively made Sweden into two countries. Not to mention our lax migration laws that made it honestly far to easy to get into the country as those laws where made in a time when Sweden needed migrant workers due to labour shortage but they end up being misused in the 2010s as they made it far to easy for the bad apple to filter into the country and as you know we basically have a gang war on the streets in Sweden were primarily immigrants are both the victims and perpetrators, as the gangs recruit (pray on) vulnerable people, and who isn’t more vulnerable than the people forgotten by the system, in an unfamiliar land, and your desperate to get a better life
"we took many many refugees that did not integrate into society becoming nearly a nation within a nation, we started having gang wars, violence, sex crime skyrocketed" "I blame our willingness and ease of taking in refugees and the fact others did not have it and didn't follow our foolish example" Cool. My country took in record number of Ukrainian refugees and barely any middleeastern/african ones. We did not have spike of sex crimes or gang wars. I won't be lectured by a swede who f**ked up their own country telling me how we should mess up ours. Right wing is on the rise because it was absolutely right (on basically only this issue). We can't simply ignore reality and sing along pretending that going with bleeding hearts is always right. Bringing in massive wave of people from completely different culture, without proper screening, filtering ends exactly as Sweden has ended up. And those countries that did proper screening, didn't take too much are the ones you now blame. No, they did the proper thing, you messed up. There was no safe way to take in this many such different people all at once. But millionaire living in 10mln penthouse in usa will never face the results. "you are either with us or against us" is lefts answer to many complex topics it has very radical stance on. And people see consequences. So if they are not fully with the left... they must be against it. So they say "ok". And now we have far rights goveremnts popping up.
You could fit 1.85 UKs in the area of Sweden, so if you want to judge relative to size you 'should' have taken 216,000. It gets worse if you factor in population as the UK population was already six times higher than yours at the time of recording... we did our fair share.

I saw him be confused at the reality show going on. He isn't an actor, he doesn't do improv, and that was not a debate. He forgot to remind himself that he was the POTUS. He was a man of a certain generation that didn't know how to react to what was going on. A "senior" moment. Not senility, but disbelief... standing next to a man that had no substance, and moderators with no desire to restore order. I see those kinds of gaffs all the time in people starting in their late 50's. He believes that he can defeat Trump, let's see if he can.

To big "surprise" not all of those "refugees" were cute girls in wheelchairs. So Europe now has a lot of "no go" zones with people who dont work, just terrorize everyone around and rapes statictics went off the chart. But hey, hashtag feminism, right John?

@Tonyhouse1168 That is what happened in the past two weeks. Check the statistics. 70 percent of rape in France is done by imigrants. 140 terrorists attacks in Sweden. People in Germany lock themselves after 5pm in winter when in gets dark. They are afraid to come out outside. People in Sweeden are afraid to come out, some Polish people are moving back to Sweeden to Poland it is impossible to live there. No go Zones in those countries, the mailman is afraid to go in there. They want sharia law, its 21 century. no beheading or stoning to the death should be done today in European countries. England has the same problem, 50 percent of them support hamas. Check it out yourself
Fox news had plenty of time before this (they still dont even after all these years) to figure out what the Takbir is and how its broadly used as much as Christians use their chants, hymns, or the cross... nuance doesnt matter to Fox and its viewers...
You really want to compare the number (or percent) of people who came to the US as immigrants over the last 100 years vs the number of people who came to Germany the last 100 years? Immigration is literally our story. Your people clapping for the immigrants absolutely wonderful. But don't pretend that xenophobia and extreme nationalism is unique to *any* country. Race issues appear in Le Monde, in La Vanguardia, monthly... Quran burning in Sweden... no country is without these people. I seem to remember something about the German government needing to bust up a neo-youknowwhat group a year ago. That wasn't a good look! But yeah, to your point, Germany and Sweden were probably the most welcoming among EU countries, so, congrats on that kindness you all showed.
Unfortunately, we messed up the integration of the migrants post-war so much, that even the newer generation feels like migrants (well, a part of it, sadly the most noticeable part). Integration is key but it takes time and money, and quotas are needed to do it properly (language lessons, civic lessons, housing, schools, etc). You can't just welcome people and let it be, or you end up like Sweden.
I commend countries that protect their citizens and culture from the invasion of foreigners not following said countries immigration laws. Stay strong against the liberal critics that want to erode your country.
The US didn’t cause these migrants. The dictator killing his own people caused it. The Syrian civil war began 3 years before the US ever got involved and the US only got involved to stop war crimes (although they justified it by claiming they were stopping ISIS). Not to mention the migrants in 2015 were fleeing from more than just Syria. You had a lot of Libyans, Iraqis, and Eritreans in addition to other displaced people that were rejected by EU countries. The funniest part about all of this is that the EU response is more xenophobic and racist than the US response to migrants and yet the US is the one that EU countries constantly called racist. I don’t know how many EU friends would tell me that the race problems in the US would just never happen in their countries. 2015 showed us that they are just as flawed as all other humans. The US is not any worse in that regard than the EU countries. I would honestly argue the US is more accepting since we deal with those issues on a regular basis.
Soldier at the Belarus border in Poland was just stabbed in the lung, he is fighting for his life. Every day since 2021 military in Poland are being constantly attacked, they throw rocks and bricks at the military and the police.
It is much harder to get from Syria to America that it is an EU country. I feel like that’s common sense. They are fleeing to countries they can physically find a way to get into. Hard to do that across an ocean.
Why do we have to accept mass immigration of people with different beliefs? Does protecting my beliefs not matter? Diversity of thought is just conflict . Take them in your house.
Because if you were in their situation, you would want the same thing, for someone to be empathetic to your suffering and help you. Your beliefs are not being threatened in any way by helping people in need, unless your beliefs are solely based around torture and hatred being the key to immortality. If diversity of thought is "just conflict" then America should've been in a constant state of civil war since it's inception. How is it even possible for you to think that simply having people with different beliefs around each other causes conflict? Have you never made a friend before in your life? Also, the immigrants don't exclusively have to live with native citizens in their own homes, you do realize that, right? There are shelters, camps and temporary housing that most will live in. No one was ever said in all of history that any citizen HAS to house an immigrant. What is wrong with people like you? Where do you get such wildly fictional information?
How many snow-white American-born came-on-the-Mayflower strangers has _anyone_ housed into their home? Zero. Nobody just houses random strangers, immigrant or not. If you let someone live in your house, you're either their close friend/family, or you're a landlord, and you don't actually live there, you charge them rent.
That ending is so sweet and a great example of why I haven't lost all faith in humanity. No matter how terrible some of us are, there are others that are that much greater.

Cool
I missed out on it the first time, but I got one for ya.

16:00 Unfortunately, still mostly same in 2024. Many politicians are fighting migration instead of trying to approach the issue with humility and understanding to those fleeing their homes. 🧡💛🧡
It won’t be any different until the end of humanity.
Politicians read polls that say people are against immigration; unfortunately the only people dumb enough to answer polls are racist repugnicans

Re delicate way to put this-- I'd say "engaged in lurid bestial acts" or something.
16:45 no! don't make them wait til 2020, they'll have a whole new set of problems if they even make it that long!
One doesn't need to yell when speaking German.
Oh shit, when you watching John Oliver, and there is a clip with your native language in it, and of course it has to be a fascist... (Hungary)
Free Palestinians from colonial settler apartheid war crimes. Israel created and supports Hummus
So you DO think that hummus is an Israeli invention? Good to know.

I love this show but... Some topics are just awfull and John should apologize for them. Search how it looks now in France, Sweden, Germany... To big "surprise" not all of those "refugees" were cute girls in wheelchairs. So Europe now has a lot of "no go" zones with people who dont work, just terrorize everyone around and rapes statictics went off the chart. But hey, hashtag feminism, right John?

Police officer in Germany stabbed in the neck by an immigrant
Polish soldier guard at Belarus border just died from being stabbed on the lung. He was only 21 years old. Theimmigrantt used a spear, went right between the bars of the fence border
84.6 million people in Germany.
Over 40 million in Poland. You found two examples of bad situations. *slow clap
@@Tonyhouse1168 Something is every day, thausnds musims want charia on demonstration in germany.
Fox news had plenty of time before this (they still dont even after all these years) to figure out what the Takbir is and how its broadly used as much as Christians use their chants, hymns, or the cross... nuance doesnt matter to Fox and its viewers...
Why can't Americans be like the great land of Germany. Welcoming people we are all people.
Didn't age well
This one didnt age well with all the immigration issues going on right now in Europe
What about Sweden...? It's great...
I commend countries that protect their citizens and culture from the invasion of foreigners not following said countries immigration laws. Stay strong against the liberal critics that want to erode your country.
You're a delusional weirdo
None are discussing the reason for these immigrations? It's USA and NATO, so, why don't' USA take them in, instead of making fun of UE countries?
We can do both
Why do we have to accept mass immigration of people with different beliefs?
Love thy neighbor. I think some jew said that once.
Me trying to act righteous but failed miserably...

How many of those diverse people has John Oliver housed into his home?
Can you not?
Some of us are actually trying to help, even though disabled, low income or elderly.
Go back to church, with that horrid attitude.
Folks, I found the virgin
How many snow-white American-born came-on-the-Mayflower strangers has _anyone_ housed into their home? Zero. Nobody just houses random strangers, immigrant or not. If you let someone live in your house, you're either their close friend/family, or you're a landlord, and you don't actually live there, you charge them rent.
How many orphans have you adopted? None? Right. Shut your mouth.
Those are just people taking a train. Some are wearing hats, and some are not.
