Most China's best AI models are open source (e.g. DeepSeek V3), whereas all US top models are closed. The irony is not lost here.

Eric is full of it, the dude works with the department of defense, his goal is to scare people into thinking a government that was founded on the retribution of land from the rich to the poor (CHINA) is somehow to be feared, but in reality its the capitalist who fear China. What am I an everyday USA citizen supposed to fear China who is willing to provide free healthcare for its citizens but not fear the USA corporation/government who denies me healthcare? This whole AI fear mongering over China is the same old tactics of scaring people to hate something simply because its a foreign country.

Megatron-Nl from Nvidia, Meta's LLaMA, Google's TensorFlow, previous ChatGPT model, all are open sources... If you're China and are lagging behind, what can you do to gain market share...... If the role was reversed, they would all do the same things. It's just corporate strategy guiding decisions... Competition in China alone is fierce. Those companies like DeepSeek follows a rather traditional Freemium, Premium business model approach that many Chinese companies adopt in different industries like the RTSDB (TD Engine), reporting, etc. Get people to use it, in the mean time collecting data, improving the interface and correcting the bugs, while at the same time selling high value added service on data.

The Capitalist fear china, most everyday citizens do not (once you actually talk to them about what china does for its own citizens), Its the capitalist who fear that if China "wins" in the AI race that means China will obliterate all profits from all major companies. Imagine if China produced vaccines/cures for free, all these companies would be unable to suck up any more money from the public. This is happening with EVs, China has a $10,000 vehicle but the USA wants to increase tariffs on the bases of protecting "American jobs" but in reality its about protecting Corporate profits. The USA government could easily tell Ford they need to figure it out that is their problem.

Eric Schmidt seeing the writing on the wall. The idea that you can somehow call yourself a "free" democratic country then resort to protectionism is disgraceful and more importantly will not work. As of today, most of the advanced models are from China bar a few in language (LLMs) and that will definitely change. The US is already behind in AI and the gap will only grow and that even with the US sucking all the global talent to their shores until the Dollar collapses & Civil War kicks in that is. You only have to see the changes made in 2024, staggering improvements by China. The biggest losers as usual will be the Europeans but then again that was always the case as they tend to let their mostly unelected politicians get away with anything.

The United State's government and business / financial / media sectors are doing injustice to China, by presenting it as vile, which it is not.
China invests heavily in its economy for the benefit of its citizens' quality of life.
China is not a war mongering country, it has increasingly relied on economic influence, diplomacy, and practically did not start any war in the recent many decades (with the only possible exception re: its 1979 war with Vietnam. Each of the 2 countries has claimed that the other had started that war).
Chinese men retire at age 60 and women at age 55. Yes !
It has a super broad / extensive and convenient high speed trains network and the country's industrial and technological sectors are overall very modern and advanced.
And transportation, groceries and eating out there are significantly less expensive than in the U.S. ... I recommend that you watch some UA-cam videos that show the situation in China, you will be totally amazed.
As opposed to what Americans are constantly told by their government, the Chinese government is doing the right thing: Planning its economy with the goal of improving the quality of the lives of its citizens, not letting some few Capitalists promote the initiatives that are in their own interests (will enrich them personally), rather than those of the general population.
The U.S. government has A LOT to learn from the Chinese one, about how to manage a country successfully for the well being and quality of life of its people.
Many Americans suffer a lot financially under Capitalism.
They simply don't understand (or don't want to face the reality) that Capitalism is what they should channel their frustrations at, rather than at one another, or at China or Russia. Under Capitalism, financial crises are created every certain number of years, it's not a stable economic system. The idea that Capitalism will bring a trickle down economy, has been proven again and again not to be working.
As long as so many Americans continue to vote for the two mainstream political parties (Republican and Democratic), both which are aligned with the extreme implementation of Capitalism in the United States, the country will continue to endure financial hardship caused by inflation and other adverse outcomes of Capitalism, such as huge inequality. The U.S. government (and many of its people) thinks it still manages / controls the world. It no longer does ...
It's time for implementing Socialism in North America, similar to the one with Chinese characteristics that's implemented in China, or at least the Social Welfare Model of some European countries, by all conscientious people starting to vote for the Socialist Party of the United States.

Well, first we should try to understand which kind of democracy wins over authoritarian regimes. Because the imposed democracy of America, as the word implies, it seems, to me, very authoritarian.

Former Google CEO dropping straight HEAT about the AI race and future opportunities. This is the playbook for anyone building in tech rn 📈
    Key insights from Eric Schmidt:
2:17 - AI + human collaboration is the first major wave. Huge opportunity for builders who can leverage AI as a force multiplier in science/tech
21:55 - The winning formula: Universities create innovation → VCs fund risk → Business scales it. This cycle created "virtually all wealth in America" 💰
24:03 - Critical bottleneck: We're running out of energy for AI data centers by 2028. Massive opportunity for anyone solving power/infrastructure
28:50 - The innovation cycle takes 20-30 years (example: self-driving cars). Start positioning yourself NOW for the next wave
For the builders: Which of these opportunities are you most excited about? The energy crisis seems like the biggest immediate play for entrepreneurs who can move fast. 🤔

he is a narrow minded billionaire that fell into a anglo-saxon + Jew mind trap that thinking about everybody want "get" them. But the Chinese has proven they are a much more advanced civilization and that Win-Win, helping the poor, be kind to your neighbour and help each other regardless of their colour or cultures... The British Empires and now American Empire did just the opposites. Colonization, slavery, winner take all, kill or be killed, creating rift and conflicts in others countries for the last 300+ years. And Qing dynasty China is the last China dynasty killed by the West and yet the Chinese civilization survived. You can destroy a country but you can't kill a civilization. The proof is you can have the Chinese boys and girls eat burgers and fast food, when they are back to their home, they use chopsticks and eat rice.
But even as of today, China did not unified ... yet, they took back Macau and Hong Kong in 1997, Taiwan is the last piece and China will take it back to finish the last piece. They have all the wisdom how to do it peacefully, the World just have to learn from it. And we can't wait to witness the beautiful reunification of China.

@ computers themselves are deflationary. There are far fewer secretaries than there used to be.
You have to look at the second degree effects. Yes, AI will take jobs. Those people will cause a glut of labor. Because of the law of supply and demand, prices for labor will go down. Deflation will occur. But here’s the kicker. When deflation occurs, it will allow the central bankers of the world to cut the of the cost of labor (by lowering interest rates.)
So you’ll have a world of lower cost of labor and lower cost of capital. That will it a great time to start a business. That will absorb the labor glut while keeping interest rates lower. Lower interest rates will help businesses , and consumers to buy a house. Lowering interest rates helps everyone, as long as it doesn’t cause inflation, but inflationary pressures will be offset by deflationary pressures. The bottom line is that when new technology comes on line it increases productivity which leads to lower costs without inflation to consumers and will lead to higher profits for companies and higher pay for employees.

I am going to be a bit controversial here. What's the difference between a democracy that elects an oligarchy run by extreme right capitalists who don't really care about the increasing wealth inequality, compared to a capitalist based confusianism lead autocracy ? Both are concentrating the power in the hands of a very few, with nearly no external control mechanisms.
USA's current leadership, and CCP's are much closer in their ideology than people think.

The premise of weakness is inaccurate. Considering warfare at this juncture would be a gross underestimation of the paramount importance of peace transcending artificial geopolitical boundaries. It is imperative that individuals cultivate the ability to observe their thoughts objectively rather than identifying with them. While the capabilities of AI may exceed the comprehension of some, it fundamentally represents a collective intelligence analogous to the holographic principle. Furthermore, it constitutes a singularity impervious to expansion or contraction.

@12:56, so you are telling me China has "no particular goal" for AI but they are betting /catching up to the USA? What is the USA goal? What are the corporations goal for AI? I would think the goal of the USA government (should be) is to improve the lives of its citizens, right? what is the goal of corporations in the USA? Profits. So Eric, you are a smart guy some would say. You work with the government and have ties to AI and google one of the largest corporations that works with the USA government but you have no idea what Chinas goal is with AI? You dont think China wants to improve the lives of its own citizens? I mean politicians and corporation love to talk about China being a Socialist country therefore we can conclude the government would be using AI to help its people, right? Chinese corporations on the other hand are not simply about profits as USA companies are, China regulates corporations and keeps them in check unlike the USA and this is the key of why you dont like that China might win in developing AI faster than the USA, because people like you will not be able to profit from it (at least for some time), until you and your corrupt friends are able to use your AI to inflict pain on other countries.

Since my retirement in 2012, I have confidently envisioned a comfortable and stable lifestyle. Back then, my monthly expenses-including rent, food, utilities, and insurance-totaled $111,600. Today, maintaining that same standard of living costs approximately $150,000 each month, clearly highlighting the significant impact of inflation. Given a 6% annual inflation rate over 11 years, my expenses should now be around $330,027. This reality reinforces the crucial importance of planning for retirement by accounting for potential annual expense increases to sustain our quality of life. While navigating these changes can be challenging, thorough preparation ensures a smooth transition and the ability to thrive.
