Thank you for sharing. I've just completed my Masters and this has given me an idea of what to expect on my PhD. If I can survive 4 hours of intense questioning then any future job interviews will not be daunting. Well done for successfully defending your thesis!
Hey, just wanted to say thank you for the video, very sweet of you to share your experience. Your video was very helpful. I have just submitted by thesis at Nottingham in Pharmacy/Life Sciences, waiting for my viva date! x

Thank you. Mine MSc dissertation Viva is there after 2 week. This video inspired me lot, as I'm preparing myself and thesis like PhD dessertation Viva.
Amazing. I have just submitted the draft of my thesis to my superviors and have been assigned external examiner today. I hope that I will pass the viva. I am also doing my phd in the UK It’s been 5 years since you made this video. Are you teaching now already?
Thanks a lot for these tips especially more helpful when coming from a person who has gone through the same. I have my viva in a couple of weeks. Though I knew a few but some points are really helpful. Thank you
Thank you so much for the vital information about Viva examination. I will be having my Viva in couple weeks, though my Thesis was in Polymer Chemistry: Nanocomposites but I found your tips helpful.
I just think to take my PhD Program in Strategic Management program. As Entrepreneur I have not been reading text book and using my lap top for my work so it would make me very nerveous to get in. Thank for your tips, that help me, appreciated it.
+Fahad Khan Thank you for the kind comments and I am glad you found these tips helpful. I can also recommend that you annotate your thesis if it helps and perhaps bookmark key pages. I had an important summary table in my intro so I bookmarked that and as anticipated, it was discussed in the viva. Wish you all the best!
Hi, hope you will be fine. I appreciate your efforts and suggestions. This video is so useful, I recently passed my PhD viva and this video helped me in preparation. Thank you so much for the video and nice suggestions. Keep it up :)
Many thanks for your enlightenment and sharing your experiences of PhD viva. I will face my VIVA within another few weeks. o you have any more regarding this....
Thanks for sharing your experience. For some who might like more tips, I found Rowena Murray's "How To Survive Your Viva: Defending A Thesis In An Oral Examination" helpful. All the best to everyone!
Have you given presentations of your research? It starts in a similar format and you will have to ask your examiners about the length of time you can present.
Abdularahman Albeladi Congratulations! Thanks for returning to share the good news. It was your own hard work that led to this success. Very well done and all the best with your future!
I know the feeling! I was also scared but excited before I began it. Not going to lie, it wasn't easy to complete but I don't regret doing it. You just have to commit to it and there's always the option to leave the programme and in the first year, you'll have enough of an insight to make that decision :)
Apologies for the delay in my reply, MultiOkasan. I went overseas for a month and caught the flu, from which I just recovered. OK, I will try my best to tell you what I know and make a video on this asap :)
congratulations for Ph.d. me also going to appear for M.phil viva English literature. actually Im very confused to face the pannel while they are all who taught during session. please tell me how to encounter this situation??
thank you for making this video. it will be my turn in 2 months time, just a quick question, is it a must for us to dress formally for the viva? is smart casual acceptable?
Hi Lotsz, thanks for your comment! I would look at how others in the group dress for the viva. It's best to overdress (i.e. on the smarter side) to stay on the safe side but I'd say that as long as you're smartly dressed, you're fine. Some people will wear a suit, others will wear a smart dress, some will wear a suit without the jacket and some rebels (like me :D) will wear a fluffy printed jumper and black jeans. Hope this helps!
Hi, I'm a student and I want to pursue a phd. during your interview , the panellists tend to ask questions which has no answer ..so how to attemp those and what if you don't know the answer to that question
Hi Subarna, I'd advise you to just attempt the question. You can even stall by asking the interviewer to repeat/rephrase the question so you have a few more seconds to think. If it is a complicated question, you could try breaking down the question and mention that you will address it in parts, which might make you realise that you can actually answer the question in part, if not in full. Even saying that you don't know the direct answer but telling them what you do know can demonstrate your knowledge in the area. If you don't know the answer at all, just say that it's a good question but that you don't know. Hope this helps!
hello..! Can i have some guidance about whether i shud go for a phd or not.... I'm a business management student in India and i have my own family business going well... but being good and interested in studies i feel like going for it... So can I get some help?
+Kashyap Bhatiya Hi, thanks for your question. I think this is something I could talk about in detail (i.e. reasons to go for it or not) so I think I'll make a video on it. Until then, I would recommend that you consider if you could focus in detail on one specific topic for at least 3 years, make the time investment, if you would have to make sacrifices (you mention the family business) and if they are worth making, if you are passionate and determined enough about a topic in business management, how you would financially be supported, what you hope to achieve by doing the PhD. Hope this helps!
Tomorrow will be my viva. Thank you for your video
Thank you for sharing. I've just completed my Masters and this has given me an idea of what to expect on my PhD. If I can survive 4 hours of intense questioning then any future job interviews will not be daunting. Well done for successfully defending your thesis!

I have a video on the introduction of the thesis which comprises the lit review. Hope you found it and it helped :)
I've always been scared about doing a PhD...I want to, but I'm terrified.
I know the feeling! I was also scared but excited before I began it. Not going to lie, it wasn't easy to complete but I don't regret doing it. Hi there, I was wondering do you have any tips for making a simple but yet concise slide presentation?
Hi MultiOkasan, sure I'd be happy to give tips on this topic. Would you like tips for the viva presentation or a different context?
I would want some tips for viva presentation. But if you'd want to give for different context I'd love too & it would be an honoured.
Apologies for the delay in my reply, MultiOkasan. I went overseas for a month and caught the flu, from which I just recovered. OK, I will try my best to tell you what I know and make a video on this asap :)
MyTake Hopefully your flu it's not too serious and you'll feel better in no time. Thank you very much for your help. :)
Hi MultiOkasan, I'm much better now thank you... just waiting for my voice to fully return :D

what do you mean by the selection of examiner?
You can be involved in the decision making process for the examiner selection
Thank you so much
Four hours?!! Wow! Full credit to you for getting through that and being positive in the aftermath. Did you have any breaks?
No breaks! And thanks!
