***Rey's rendition of "Lost Painting" is by far THE BEST on You Tube*** No argument whatsoever! Again and again after listening to his version, it never gets old and is just as good if not better than the first time when I heard it. Thanks again my friend for sharing this beautiful piece with the world, you are a tremendous talent that I admire and seek influence from.
When played on a piano, i get such a different take on it. No disrespect to the video game version, because I love it. But on the piano , it seems so heroic, yet the goal of the hero seems unattainable, the struggle….eternal and beautiful at the same time. Really epitomizes the whole story of the Belmont's in the Castlevania franchise.
Onlyrealmusic4life I believe he's referring to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a recent reboot of the series. It's not part of the original timeline, though.
Still the best interpretation on UA-cam, i've been listening to this since 2007 So where you at? From the time you started until now you could be a giant UA-cam partner making tons of money!!
i admire piano players so much... i took many years of lessons and always found piano to be very difficult. guitar was like playing a baby's toy next to piano. idk if guitar just fit me better or what. but it's so much easier to get very good at guitar (and i'm not even talking about electric guitar, power chord type stuff; i play a lot of finger picking acoustic and classical guitar). i remember two years into piano and i was still doing toddler songs... "paddle the canoe down the river; paddle paddle paddle. one two three..." i just couldn't get into it enough to buckle down. the first night i had my first acoustic guitar, i learned to play a majority of the good Eagles songs (along with, of course, most other three chord classic folk rock songs; lol). a year in and i was playing Led Zep, Paul Simon, and RHCP. of course, i still can't begin to emulate James Taylor's warm fluid sound of perfection; he's just way too good. but guitar was so fun to learn and that's my point: it's about the desire to invest your entire focus into it. anyway, thanx for reading. all apologies if tmi was a waste of your time.
Hi Rey. I'm going through some things, right now, and came back across this rendition which helped me cope. It's the best rendition of Lost Painting that I think exists, and I've been collecting hundreds of GB of game music since the early 2000s. Don't interpret this as pressure, because you should live life for you own aims and not for others, but I just thought you should know that you're great at what you do, and I think there will be people here on UA-cam to appreciate your music should you decide to post new piano arrangements of game songs.
Wow! Forget the game - the timing of this performance is astounding! This is REAL music played without clocking or digitization and the execution is outrageous. I'm floored. Thank you for sharing your talent and the many hours you have spent honing it. -gaijin.
Magical. I love when people add some of their own into the music. I love how you are slowly adding strength and keeping the softness at the same time. Really magical.
Such a beautiful & haunting melody. The piano is the only instrument capable of presenting this song in its purest form. Thanks for all your hard work & dedication.
You sir are AMAZING!!! Brings back so many good memories :) I showed my GF this video and she said "What is this? I don't wanna listen to this, put on some Katy Perry" She was never seen again...
I still love going back to your channel and watch you perform tracks Castlevania from it because it brings me nostalgia from the time you recently uploaded this. I wish I had the time to learn how to play like you, but I’m glad to have stumbled on your channel even since I was younger. 💖
I have waited twenty years for you to make this video so i could sing along at home. I always knew you would do a wonderful job. Thank you for loving this music and big ups to the composer who gave this to us all to enjoy.
Seriously impressive. This song has been a long since standing favorite of mine for years, and watching you play it brings tears to my eyes. I add this to my favs over a year ago, and have listened to it countless times. Beautiful.
You play the whole piece not just the piano parts and you balance the delicacy and overpowering nature of the best Castlevania tunes very well. Bravo! Seriously, I'm excited that you've done this.
This is one of the most famous pieces from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Very good game, I believe it was the last sidescroller made for a console system. Worth a playthrough or five for anyone who hasn't played it. Very nicely done btw.
You really managed to capture the eeriness of this song, as well as the mystique and intrigue that it kind of summons in you. A lot of emotion. I like it.
often, when i come home from work and drinking a beer, i find myself coming back to listen to this wonderfull peace of music. gives me goosebumps everytime. :)
This is without doubt the most beautiful song in the game and in my top 10 favorite videogame themes of all time. This is a beautiful cover of the theme and I thank you for that.
You are an extremely talented individual, iv never listened to music with such passion such as the music you have produced, and the fact that you play you're music by ear shows you are a truly gifted individual, thank you for sharing this masterpiece.
Your interpritation of this song makes me feel like I am dancing in clouds of mystical colours. It's a beautiful mixture of romance, tragedy and perserverance. I love your music and I hope to hear more of your compositions. You are a very talented and passionate musician! Keep up the great work!
I have listened to this many, many times and it never gets old. I could listen to it a thousand times more. It's beautiful in a haunting, saddening way. I love it!
AWESOME! You finally uploaded some more stuff, and what's more, it's Lost Painting which is definitely the most beautiful song from SotN IMO. I love this!
this is absolutely gorgeous. i love your version of bloody tears as well. methinks it has something to do with the quality of your piano as well as your skill
Absolutely beautiful. ;_; I love the little tweaks you made to the original, especially the ending. I could imagine this being played at an actual concert.
You really did a great job, even in the parts where you made the song yours. I really like the original so i've been trying to find a youtube post that is as close as possible. You pretty much are the closest thing. Keep up the good work.
5* This is my all time favorite song on Piano and you nailed it to perfection (I've seen MANY try). I know it's sounds cliche', but it is evident that you performed this piece with astounding emotion and passion... marvelous and outstanding! Thank you so mush for sharing this video rey. Bravo.
As long as I cant afford such a piano, i can't start train myself on playing the piano. But so I can watch others playing songs that you keep in mind for ages... Man, your "version" of this song is epic :A Keep it up, you got the skill ^.^
I remember watching this video in 2007 because i like SOTN and this was my favorite song. Then, i forget the game until last week i saw this game in a page of facebook and i need to find this song again. Incredibely how pass the time, i came back 15 years later. Sorry if my english is not enough good.
I have just heard to your Bloody Tears song. This song I think is more elaborated, since it belongs to a Play Station game. Hence, I have seen how you perfrom so well on the piano. Keep going, cheers. I just love your piano music!
I really love this song. Plus you play by ear too! I'm never that talented especially when it comes to listening and playing afterwards. I hope that someday I can learn this song.
Ah so beautiful and so personal. You are really gifted with the piano. I'm looking to play this song one day, but never as you, you give it an emotion that no one else can manage.
You are a great piano player my friend. I too play the piano. It's amazing the way you can listening to a song and play it by ear! :):):) Keep Playing and Posting!!!!!!
It's one of my favorite song, and your "home made" version with some differents touch give something special. Really surprising and good for the ears :]
Lost Painting is by far one of my favorite tracks in Symphony of the Night. I'd love to hear your rendition of The Garden Forgotten by Time (which ties for my favorite track alongside of House of Sacred Remains from Lament of Innocence) Great job on this, I've got chills, bro!
This song inspired me to start playing piano.
awesome!! how you going with the piano? :D
You made a good choice then
Incredible. Still nobody this good 12 years later!! We need an HD REMAKE!! LOL
someone said the piano was slightly out of tune. maybe thats it or this dude is just a musical incubus.

16 years and still THAT GOOD... and we keep on counting the years ...
That long….hurt me more!
Out of all the piano version of this song here on youtube, you're the best.
Still hearing this master piece after 16 years, greetings from Mexico 🙂

***** Which game was that? I stopped playing after SOTN. Actually I played Lament of Innocence but I don't remember the story at all.
Uhhh yeah. This song is in SOTN and the only Belmont in that game is a minor antagonist. SOTN is all about Alucard and his daddy issues.
Onlyrealmusic4life
I believe he's referring to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a recent reboot of the series. It's not part of the original timeline, though.
***** Wasn't "Unless of course you factor in the reboots' origin story tying the Belmont bloodline directly to Dracula." referring to LoS?
I have a more different feeling. It feels more "sadder" in piano, for me.
Still the best interpretation on UA-cam, i've been listening to this since 2007
So where you at? From the time you started until now you could be a giant UA-cam partner making tons of money!!
JHinsonMusic Maybe he just wanted to do it for fun or love, not precisely for money.
After years and years I still come here and think "Damn... still the best arrangement of this OST after 14 years"
Me too. It makes me happy and sad at the same time. 14 years, wow....still love it
Th piano is off-tuned quite a bit, But man ! It gives a fucking beautiful vintage sound to the song ! gratz bud
Sebas Desgagné seems like chorus effect
Yeah that off tune a lil sounds authentic old goodness I love it
Eerie !
I am still trying to teach myself piano. It's been a while. This was one major inspiration as to why.
+ProfessorProfanity Keep at it! I'm flattered that I, of all people, could be an inspiration to someone else.
+ProfessorProfanity Same here homie!
This is hauntingly beautiful and brings back good memories

Dude, ten years since the first time I've watched this piece. Amazing interpretation!
HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
The best lost painting cover
Personally I prefer String Player Gamer’s cover, but this is a hella strong contender
