Almost every single law enforcement agency I've worked for issues and trusts Streamlight products. They have always been amazing lights, with a company that backs their products even under duty, combat conditions.
As a firefighter the only lights I see in this line if work are streamlights. I've had mine in many fires. They've survived big drops, my flashlight that I keep in my pants pocket for work has been through the washer and dryer probably like 10 times, and now lives on my firehelmet and goes into fires since I got a brighter flashlight for my EDC on the job.
I’ve got the same light on my rifle. I’ve engaged target out past 250yrds and made good hits. As for streamlight quality. I’ve carried the 2L-X for years and used it every day and it’s still going strong
@@erik.cowell1277they are definitely tough. My department uses streamlight for our right angle lights, hand lights, and portable scene lights for overhaul. They take the heat and the beam is fantastic.
Dude, hands down best review of this light I've seen thus far. I've owned an HL-X for over a year now and I'm just now finding out about the high and low setting, on top of it being able to switch mounts to get a slimmer profile. And the fact that it has cable management built into the mount itself, AND its dual fuel 🤯🤯...WHAT! I have been under-utilizing this light for so long. I'm excited for it all over again. Thank you bro, seriously.
Brother, you provided the most useful review of this light of anyone on UA-cam. Especially the live demonstration from 50 then 100 yards to the berm at night. Thank you!!
To mount the light closer to the handguard just remove the knob section and use the provided M-Loc plate and screws and mount it directly to M-Loc spots on the rail.
Nowadays, the light comes with an mlok mount which will bring the light closer to the rail and to the 1 oclock position. If you arent happy with that, the light has the surefire scout footprint and you can just about use any aftermarket scout light mount for a better mounting solution.
I just mounted an HL-X on my AR and I am so impressed! It’s bright, wide, and the double-tap strobe is quite effective. I’m extremely pleased with this device and I highly recommend!
@@ThatBeardedShooter Which of the two weapon lights shown did you prefer? I’m trying to decide between the two. I have a TLR 7A on an FN 509c Tac, and I love it, but don’t have any experience with Streamlights competitors. Nice and informative video too… Much Appreciated!
Great video. I run a Surefire Scout on my duty AR and my primary home defense AR. That being said, your video/review has helped me decide on purchasing the Streamlight to mount on one of my other ARs. Stay safe.
I purchased one of these and couldnt be happier. As for the screws, if I had to guess I bet they are for the "plastic" standard A2 or magpul style handguards. I cant imagine that anyone would use them for anything else unless you have wooden furniture on your rifle.

My odin rail mount couldnt handle hot 556. Olight is trash. For those that say Olight is reliable have never used it at live range which is obvious. I didnt believe others so I tried Olight. It is truly out of spec with cheap screws along with out of spec rail dimensions.
Ive been running streamlights for a couple of years and love it. I do recommend the arisaka defense 45° offset mount. I also just used the zip ties to secure the pressure pad to the top of my slim mlok hand guard and its a really slim/ comfortable package.
Did you use the adhesive? I have the same hand guard you mentioned, and I’ve been wondering how to mount this thing on top, but there isn’t any MLok there. I’ve considered mounting it on the left or right, but not sure how ergonomic such a set up would be. Any help is appreciated.

I work in security and love my protac HL-X. Mind you I carry a belt clip version with all the same features minus the rifle mount and pressure pad, but it's still a crazy cool light for the money. Only draw back I feel is the high beams run time being so short. But I run two seperate lights for two very different jobs. I primarily use my protac for the ridiculously long throw when my general purpose light can't illuminate deep enough into the tree line to see anything.
I've been looking for a while for reviews of this light thanks for making it. I have the streamlight 600 lumen rifle light for home defense and it doesn't blind me indoors.
I’m always amazed at how much improvement in flashlight technology has been made since I started my career in law enforcement in 1983. It’s like I went from carrying a single dim candle to having the sun ☀️ in my hand.
Great review and video! I carry a Streamlight ProTac 2L-X every day and it’s a fantastic daily use light! It’s USB rechargeable and it’s perfect for my use as an industrial maintenance mechanic.
The light itself is very well built. Its nice that they made it a rifle kit however where they sacrificed quality for value was in the tapeswitch end cap. I had issues with mine out of the box. Light would sometimes not turn on when clicking. It was such a pain i ran it with the button cap for a while because i just couldnt trust that tapeswitch. I would have gladly paid more for this kit if it came equipped with a higher quality tapeswitch cap like the ones that come with a surefire.
Excellent review of this light, Streamlight have a new version out with an included red laser that I'm looking at. I'm also an Olight user and have both the Odin GL M and Mini on my 300 blk and CZ Scorpion guns with the updated high and low pressure pads. They've been great for me and it annoys the hell out of me the shade thrown around on olight by folks who've never even tried or interacted with one smh
Highly recommend streamlight. Never head a weapon mounted light (I have had several other flashlights by them) but I’m looking into purchasing one today
The Odin pressure switch does have two settings. Press down momentarily and its momentary light only, press down once hard and quick and its constant. I will say I just got rid of my Odin because I had tons of problems with it during a nighttime shoot. I just ordered the 88006 which was my go to for years. I don't trust Olight anymore.
I bought a light with a mount at tractor supply for 35$. I’ve had it for years. Still great light. Awesome product. I’m not paying hundreds of dollars for a flashlight. Poor man war fighting veteran.
My girlfriend bought me the non mounting version as a gift. I've decided to run it as a weapons light and I'm kinda glad it's just the handheld one. I got to pair it with a bcm mount and it's super solid. But...l had to purchase the mount AND I had to purchase the tail cap. Now that I think about it, I probably paid for the light one way or another too... Soild value. I doubt I'd want much more out of something that's just a white light
Excellent review! I appreciate the slow and steady voice talking about the set up. I recently purchased this and not being able to get the rubber mounts around the rail. Do you know of another mount similar to the Olight mount?
I can't speak for the screws included but I saw a guy in the Amazon reviews who drilled the holes out to 3/16ths and basically made it direct to mlok, so that's a possibility as well

You really need to be a sucker to spend almost 4 times the money for a surefire when this is just as good. I run this on my primary home defense AR. If an intruder comes in you can just blind them to death and never need to fire. Seriously though this gives you a major tactical advantage, especially in close quarters. This thing is so bright it will almost have the effect of a flash bang. It will certainly disorient anyone sneaking around at night.
If your rail is all solid metal then the screws are useless. If they're partially opened you can screw the pressure switch down into the openings between the rails There is a point to them.
Great video! Thanks! I’m having a helluva a time getting the pressure pad into the little rubber picatinny mounts. In what order did you assemble them? Pressure pad into rubber mounts, then onto rail? Or, rubber mounts on to rail and then the pressure pad into the mounts?
The only problem with this light is that you cannot find a color filter for it if you want to use it for hunting. Will probably never make one and their excuse it that the filter will melt because of the heat.
