My new 2023 Toyota Hilux Rogue has been missing from the channel for the last few weeks. Today, I will tell you the story behind why my new Hilux had to get a completely new paint job. I will also be showing you around the new 12v electrical system I had installed. The Hilux is back!

You have such a great attitude for a young man. I’d be unbelievably angry and want to end someone. Congrats on your parents for bringing up such a respectable human. Ute looks amazing anyway and I’m envious of you. Hope you have lots of fun with it.
Thank you sir. Very kind words. Nice comments like this are few and far between these days. Thank you for your comments and I appreciate you watching 😊
A true reflection on why you need to build a positive relationship with your dealer. Great story. Pleased things worked out positive for you Mark. 👍
Thanks Richard. Absolutely. Brilliant to deal with and I’m very happy with the result
Hi Mark, love your video's on the new hilux . Can't wait to get mine so by watching these gives me a little relief on the wait for delivery. Great work, looking forward to your next video.👍.oh and yes I would grab one of those shirts.
Thanks for letting me know about the shirt Craig! Congrats on your new hilux. They are an absolute tank of a vehicle. I’m loving mine so far
Yet another great video. So many ideas your sharing with us. I love my new hilux as well. I’m getting a dual battery setup as well with the additional wiring to tow a caravan. Yes I would buy the shirt to support your wonderful Channel. All the best.
Thank you for the kind words Jason. I’m glad you are getting lots of ideas. I have a video coming out on Sunday where I am starting to modify my hilux so I hope you can get some more ideas 😊
I think you are doing a wonderful job 👍
That’s very kind of you. Thank you very much 😊
Paint looks awesome
Thanks Richard! I’ll get some closeups in coming videos when the sun is out 😊
Another great video. Good see Toyota looking after their customers.
Looking forward to your next video.
The shirts … yeah I would consider buying one. Also make great prize
Keep up the good work 😊😊
Thanks Adam! Sometimes things go wrong but John Cole Toyota really stepped up. Good to know about the shirts too. Thank you for watching until the end 👍
Nice one, glad they got it sorted. Just did injectors in my 90 series, only 1300km away from 400k.
I love a 90 series! I will own one some day. 400k kms isn’t too much either. That will keep running for decades yet 👍
I live in Cairns, & I love your videos as most places you go I know where you are.
I have to agree with you with John Cole up the range.
I’ve only heard good reports about them, & I know so many people who like you live in Cairns, & prefer them rather then down here.
Keep up the videos, & stay dry this weekend 👍👍
Hi Stephen! That’s awesome! If you see me around, give me a wave 👋 I organising a camping event for a bit later in the year so you’ll have to come 👍 I’ll make a video on the details of it in the coming months. It’s surely is a wet one this weekend
I would love to attend.
I drive an AWD Territory that’s all set up for camping so as long as it’s not serious off road I’m all good 👍
This is the right attitude from you to your dealer and back from them to you! Now If I can make a suggestion: this is the right time to apply a ceramic coating on the paint and then wrap it with clear vinyl if you want to preserve it. Going in the woods (the bush in your case) is no easy on the paint. Otherwise you end up at least with lots of pinstripes all over.
Thank you for the kind words. You are quite right. However, a lot of protective treatments are nearing the cost of respirating sections of paint so I’m almost at the point of just not worrying about the scratches and respray it if it gets bad haha
@@NorthOzI had 10yr warranty (the thickest/highest grade the installer had available) paint protective film (PPF) installed on my 2022 Prado VX from new and 10mths down the track, I can say that I am VERY happy with the product as far as it's protective abilities go. The down side is that it cost an absolute MOTZA to install and most probably comparable to a full respray as mentioned. DIY kits are available but such things are best left to the professionals in my opinion - which is also the main reason for the very high cost outlay.
As far as the T-Shirts go Mark, I would definitely get one but since I don't own a Hilux, I would much prefer the rear of the shirt left blank with just the North Oz logo on the front. That said, I do understand that it's about promoting your channel more than anything else hence, the Hilux. Perhaps a much smaller pick of the Hilux as part of the general North Oz logo design might appeal to more people(??) ... just a suggestion.
Get some seat covers too if you haven’t already, best advice I got! Ute looks great👌🏼 Love watching your videos keep up the great work!
Thanks Anthony. That’s included in next week’s video. I can’t wait to get stuck into the mods on this thing 👌
Glad you got your car sorted. And glad you found a decent Toyota dealer. Given the amount of money spent though, I would have expected a better paint job to start with. I'd be very upset if I had to repaint a brand new car. From my experience, I found the Toyota company and dealers in Melbourne quite arrogant to deal with. So much that I had to walk out and buy something else. Yours looks mint now at least. 🙏
Absolutely. It was a bit disappointing as I was really happy to get it. It was my first new car with a colour that I wanted and the paint was like that. Luckily, John Cole Toyota are so good to deal with and I feel good about the product now 😊 Dealers are hit or miss but I’m glad I found a good one
There is a common theme of seemingly soft setting paints on vehicle's across the board right now. There is probably a common supplier somewhere in there that is producing inconsistent pigment bases or something. Many Next Gen Ranger owners have complained of similar issues.
This is very good to know because my Red Rogue would have come from the same batch as NorthOz's and may have the same problem.
That’s why it is very important when you collect to your car, despite how excited you are, to have a good look at everything before you drive out and document any issues right there.
True ☝️
Hope ya dual battery doesn't crack the wheel arch out like mine did big job to repair there not very strong maybe a lithium battery might be ok but a normal agm imo is way to heavy for it causing it to crack
Yeesh. I’ll keep an eye on that for sure. Thanks for the heads up. That’s a worry
What size rims will you stick on it? I’ve order one due in May, looking at some ROH 17x9’s!
Great question. I’m thinking of sticking with the 18 inch diameter and going with something like a 18 x 9 + 18
Hi mate are you looking at fitting a lightbar behind the grill
Hi mate. Not at this point. I spent $1000 on a light bar for my Prado and hardly used it. I always travel during the day
Hello mark. Another minor update to your 12 volt system could be to swap out your primary battery. I would replace it with 100ah rated. Greetings from Zambia👋🏾
Thank you for the suggestion! That sounds like a great plan. I will look into it. Do you have any suggestions for the brand I should get?
Thanks for your content. I commend you on your attitude and the support from your dealer. I particularly liked your review of the Fortuner. Being a prospective Fortuner purchaser, Im really disappointed that the paint on your vehicle was sub-par. Generally speaking toyotas are dearer in most classes of cars they produce. I dont mind paying for quality but in this instance im really dissappointed with toyota. Have they dropped the ball on quality control? Seems like your taking this pretty good, i would be having kittens!! Hats off to you.
Hi Sergio. Thank you very much for the comment. Honestly, the scratches were hard to pick up unless you were looking for them and unless they were on a darker colour, they wouldn’t have been seen. I believe it was transport related but I think other factors were at play. Me and my family have bought upwards of 10 cars now from Toyota and this is the only one with paint like this. Our hiace had issues but vans from every brand seem to have problems. If the paint is the worst part of this truck, I won’t be complaining 😊 It’s a solid rig and is an absolute tank 👍 Very happy with it and Toyota as usual, have been unreal to deal with
Not meaning to be rude, how much was the duel battery set through ARB ?
Hi Darren. Not a rude question at all. I’m an open book. It was on the expensive side personally, but everything through ARB is. It was $2,440
@@NorthOz thanks mate , well ARB are good, that price isn’t to bad
Hey mate, did you get rid of you’re rogue?
Hi mate, yes I did 👍
Is that the 48 volt hybrid model
Hi mate, this is not that model
So why exactly was the paint damaged?
Not sure. Could be transport but that’s just speculation on my part
Luv ❤😘 from land of Toyota Balochistan
Thank you 🙏
Morning Mark, They probably could have done a neater job of bcdc it's bit rough, or some split tube around the cut. Mine is same spot but a far neater cut. I have an Anderson under the bonnet on wiring to plug solar in. It works well. If I go a bullbar the wiring is coiled long enough to mount it on,
2 fused wires to rear with Anderson plug each. 1 in tub to a panel various plugs. 1 to tow bar. Didnt use the battery terminals, the installer used lugs on the cables and the battery threaded studs. Its very neat. I used the factory accessories fuse board under bonnet for cel fi, extra usb and uhf inside,
Vehicle looking good.
Yes would buy a shirt 👍
Hi Richard! I completely understand. At least they did a better job than what I would’ve done on it haha. But yes, it looks like there could be room for improvement for sure. As long as it holds up and does the job, I won’t be complaining 😄 Thanks for the shirt feedback too!
Now clear wrap it
Hi Peter! I would but it’s just so expensive. It costs less to just repaint when I’m finished beating on it to be honest
So what was the cause of the paint issue - manufacturing fault or damages on transport to dealers…. If the first, I worried for the car 10years down the track. Either way someone at pre delivery should have picked up!!!
Could’ve been transport but that’s just me speculating. It didn’t look like a painting defect, but again, speculations…
If so then why did the dealer not notify you about paint damage in the first place! They should’ve given you a substantial discount
interesting that your toyota dealer didnt pick up on it during pre deliver detail, instead ignored it and try to get away with it.glad it worked out for you
Please change the wheels. Put more beefier wheels.
Definitely! I’m just going to sort out suspension first then it’s getting big wheels and tyres 👌
@@NorthOz yep, me too. Outback Armour i am leaning towards or Toufh Dog
That's not good enough, regarding the paint. You should have received a replacement car.
I can see your perspective. But I’m not keen on waiting 18 months for a new car. The paint looks mint now. I’m very happy with it 😊
There is a little scratch on the bumper
There’s going to be a lot more soon with where I’m taking this thing haha 😂
@@NorthOz ohh ok
Dude so you are saying that you did not pick up on the paint defect before you took delivery ? Deep chip marks only showed up after you washed it? Man this story makes no sense at. And why you plugging this dealership so much. Strange story
I understand your concerns and skepticism. I did pick up some defects at the dealership and pointed this out at the time. But once I got back home and had a walk around the truck, I realised there were smaller defects that were not easily spotted without getting up close. Regarding the reason I am giving the dealership a good wrap, they didn’t have to fix the defects to the level they did. Like so many members of the North Oz community have stated, most dealerships wouldn’t want to hear about let alone pay $5000 out of their own pocket to fix defects that they most likely weren’t even responsible for. If this video helps John Cole Toyota get more business because of how they handled my case, then so be it. Good, honest and hard working local businesses need to get as much publicity as possible and I am happy to use my platform to do this. I hope this clears up your concerns and if you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask 👍
@@NorthOz Wrong... They absolutely 100% had a legal responsibility to deliver you a new car in new condition. If you or anyone is unsure of their consumer rights in Australia the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission website gives great instruction on consumer rights. I have advocated for many people using info from this site with great success. However, though I think you laboured your point about this car yard way too much, I do think you have had a mature manner on this matter.
