Very much on mission for what Spruebox was describing for the inspiration box, well thought out. Maybe a special guest return of figure Friday in the future?
If I’m not mistaken, the Sphinx collar badge is for the 24th Regiment of Foot, later South Wales Borderers, probably most famous for its presence at the Battle of Rorke’s Drift
@@garys_stuff Yes Michael Caine was the Regimental Officer and Baker was a Sapper, there’s some line in the film about “ I only came here to build a bridge”. It’s been so long since I saw it. It’s another one to add to the “to watch whilst I’m modelling “ list .
Well that was inspirational Gary, l didn't see that one coming and it was very welcome too and good for Spruebox doing what it said it would do, l have problems with figures so this will be a most interesting paint 👍
Could always combine the 2 bases together on top of each other , they look the same so the diagonals would match up ..would leave you with a flat top and bottom surface on which to place the head flatly , just a bit of cutting or sanding to your preferred height .....
An invitation to a tutorial on figure painting, very nice indeed. I’ve tried painting figures a few times in the past - did not end well. Give us a review of the tutorial site and lessons please. 😊
The collar badges are for officers of the 24th of Foot, South Wales Borderers. Sphinx on dark green backing. Is it supposed to be a bust of Michael Caine? Zulu and all that? It’s definitely not Roy Castle in Carry on up the Khyber! Great wee pack that 👍🏼 Ian
Dark green as in that more blue-green (not as dark as Brunswick) - trying to think of other regiments that had green facings - wasn't it something like willow green?
@@garys_stuff definitely light than Brunswick or “Rifle Green” but I couldn’t tell you the exact name. I’m sure that one of your Napoleonic books will have the true name of the facings. I must make a google reconnaissance later!
I suspect the two bases are painting mounts for the head while you work on it, rather than display bases. Although you probably can use one as a display base - with modifications.
Don't you just love surprises? Practicing shading on a large bust gives you advantage over 35mm. or smaller. Lovely detail, too. You can take a drill bit the size of his neck and countersink a mounting hole in the base. It's up to you if you want to drill a hole to mount the head with a screw. Lovely little project. How's the jeep?
Hi Gary, your friend certainly sends you the odd curve ball, and some very nice 'gifts' best of British with this figure head, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia ☺☺☺
Gary, do you build sci-fi kits as well? I recently switched focus from primarily WWII aircraft to sci-fi, and I've become so much more happy and productive since. I think it's because my imagination has room to fly free, rather than being chained into the corral of exactly accurate historical details (yes, I am my own worst rivet counter.) Check out the Maschinen Krieger line of kits, originally from Nitto in the early-mid '80s, but now from Wave, Hasegawa, and a few by Kaiyodo.
Maschinen Krieger are lovely kits. I didn’t realise they’d been rereleased by other companies. I recently got a Gundam/Gunpla Robot that I intend to personalise/paint etc. Lovely quality models.
Well Well, now that is an unexpected delivery. I don’t recall any channel I watch doing a bust…….maybe because there’s zero building just painting? I too am confused by the angles of the columns and by the sending of two? Do they creat one display or are you missing a bust? I await developments! Bob England
Sorry Gary. But call me a party pooper if you like. But I don't think this is worth the monthly payment that they are charging. Didn;'t you at least get an actual model kit in the last one? For me, the monthly price, isn't justified. I don't think its worth the £15 a month. Its certainly not worth the lower £10 a month subscription. Plus I don't like mystery boxes in general. I prefer to know what I am paying for.
Hey, Andrew, no worries. Everyone has an opinion and that is cool. I like being given different things to challenge me, but that's not to say it's for everyone. For the record, I'm enjoying these boxes so far and this recent one pushes me into an area I've never looked at before, but where I think I can develop skills that will help with my 'usual' model making. But if it's not for you, that's fine too!
Well..Glad you’re getting “ahead”,in life Gary.!
Oooh, a head in a box. Shades of Brad Pitt. 🤣
I think it's Lt Gonville Bromhead of the 24th Regiment of Foot - played by Michael Cain in the film 'Zulu'.
Excellent!
it's a dark art to me but that resin head looks amazing! Beautifully sculpted. Great video Gary

Correct, good spot
TBH, the bust looks a bit like Stanley Baker, the main lead Star of Zulu.
You beat me to it!
I wasn’t sure which actor it was but you guys have it right.
“The sentries report Zulus to the southwest. Thousands of them.”
Baker was an engineer, IIRC?

It was certainly out of left field, as they say, but that's what i was hoping that Inspiration Boxes would deliver, and they have so far!
Gary use a screw for wooden base and mount head with a wee touch if ca glue , that's what the bases are for !!!
Thats some decent brushes.with sticky greetings. Christian
I've used them on a few other projects now and they are really nice to use!

Will do!
Just a reminder there's a chat group and more with the Inspiration Subscription, and apparently a video.☕🐢
Hello from the states...New Mexico..I love your vids..inspiring me to get back to it..ps wife loves your work too

Good point. There is a video available apparently so I can see if it's in that.

Jeep is gong well - just got some Russian green paint so I can start the last bit of assembly then the diorama is calling to me!

Very interesting box, why 2 bases with one head though?
One to practice on maybe?
This was an error, should only be one, but Gary is special
That explains that then.
Thanks James, I feel special. Seriously cool box though. Can't wait to start it.
Is it Wellington?
No, Michael Cane from the film Zulu.

A change is as good as a rest.
I do both, along with the odd, odd subject. (eg I have just started the Fujimi 1/200 scale Yamato Main turret kit.)
Only sci-fi I've done so far are a couple of Star Wars things. I'll look into other areas - always a good thing to do anyway!

If anyone is interested, I have a few dozen Maschinen Krieger kits for sale, and I do ship to the UK.

Apparently James accidentally sent me two columns, so gladly no mystery there!
@@garys_stuff the columns work how then matey? I still cannot see any way on that!
A very interesting box how much was it?
There's a link halfway down the description to the Inspiration Subscription.
Figure Friday?
Have your completed models escaped to adjoining rooms yet to be enjoyed by family and visitors as they visit the loo or congregate in the kitchen? 😂😂
Not yet - there are so few flat pieces anywhere left!
