I got to round 3 and can’t go any further u say to continue the pattern after the second corner only halfway thru the moon…. I tried going back but I am unable to find where and witch stitch I need to use
Hello! Yes, this round repeats after each corner, so there will be 4 identical sides to make it into a square. When I say to repeat the pattern I mean make the corner (TC2, CH2, TC2) then do the side (EDC, DC, DC, HDC, HDC, HDC, DC, DC, EDC) then you do another corner. Hope that helps!
@@julescraftfolk The last EDC before the last corner keeps ending up in the st I have for the moon. I've frogged this four times including the moon and I'm going on #5 and it's still ending in there. Unsure what's going on. Did count my stitches on the moon and the border but it isn't ending where you show in the video
@@girlovecupcake Hi there. It sounds like when you start working with the background yarn after making the moon you are skipping over the slip stitch (first stitch made when making the moon) and instead working a slip stitch into the top of the single crochet (second stitch made when making the moon)...have I got this right? If so, you want to make sure that when you start with the background yarn that you slip stitch into the top of the first slip stitch of the moon. Then you will either chain 3 or do an alternate standing double crochet. In the next stitch (the top of the single crochet of the moon) you will do the extended double crochet. This should also fix the problem you are having when you get round to the other side of the moon....just make sure you work into the top of both slipped stitches at the start and end of the moon. Does this make sense?
Could anyone recommend how to make the final product bigger? I saw somewhere that these only measure to 4.5 inches but was hoping to dilate that to be a whole lot bigger preferably without adding too many unnecessary stitches. Any recs?
Hello! So I’m confused. At the end of the second round, the one with the increase, I’m with you till you count 21. Then you say 22 and I don’t see the 22nd dc and proceed to saying that we make 2 more dc which makes it 23 dc since I don’t know where the 22nd dc is. Could you please clarify?
Hello! Yes, I get what you mean, in that section of the video my audio is a tiny bit out of sync (so annoying!) if you look at my hands I actually count 22 stitches, but when I say 22 it looks like I've finished counting. When you're counting yours you should have 24 in that round in total (excluding the chain 2 you made at the start of the round). Hope that helps and sorry about the confusion.
Thank you for your reply! I kept rewatching the video till I figured out what I was missing. Great tutorials, been making moons and stars ever since I came across these.
I want to make a bag using this pattern, how would you make this a tilted granny square? Or am I just having a moment and you just tilt the square itself?
Hello! You could just put the square on the diagonal, but it depends what position you want the moon to be in. If you want the moon to stay in the same position, but the background around it is diagonal (I hope that makes sense) you will need to start the background round (after the moon) with a dc, hdc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, edc, 2tc ch2, 2tc (so that corner will be on the top of the moon) then continue with the standard pattern. Hope that helps!
Like many others I see in the comments, am coming up short when I get to the last side 4th row (making the square). I use a CH3 instead of the complex stitch you show after. However, when I watch the alternate stitch you use, it seems you stitch into the next space whereas the CH3 does not do that. Is this where I’m coming up short?? I have made this 3 different ways, and the square is uneven each time because of it.
Hi! So you want to make sure you slip stitch into the very first stitch of the moon (this was the slip stitch and will be directly after the knot) see timestamp: 10:01 Then you can use a chain 3 or the alternate stitch I use (this still stitches into the same stitchso it’s exactly like a chain 3) see timestamp: 10:27 The next stitch is an extended double crochet (this should be worked into the top of the single crochet of the moon) see timestamp 21:15 Then the corner gets made into the top of the half double crochet of the moon. Check to see if your corner lines up with this stitch. If not I’m guessing you missed doing the slip stitch with your background colour into the top of the slip stitch of the moon. Let me know how you go 😀
It feels like the counts don't work out. If the moon is started with a slst after the st you finished the first colour in, then when you slst the starting colour into the first sc of the moon, you're skipping 2 stitches. Also by the end, my trc ch trc is happening in the last SC of the moon, (not the third to last hdc st which it'd have to be to have the DC land on the last moon st) then there's only 7 sts betweeb the two corners. So, the two missing we slst over at the start?? I've managed to work it out in my own way bu not doing any slsts in the moon but if anyone else understands/could make it make sense I'd appreciate it

@@julescraftfolk i was having the same issue, kept coming out 1 stitch short at the end of row 3 and the result looked a bit crooked. i think this is where i went wrong, i slip stitched the background color into the first stitch after the slip stitch of the moon, instead of the first stitch after the slip *knot* - which is actually the slip stitch. i think the instructions confused me and that's why i confused slip knot and slip stitch 😅 i will try again to find out whether that was my mistake. hopefully this thread will help other people having the same issue

Thanks. I found what I did wrong. When switching back to the "sky" yarn I skipped the first stich of the moon. Which was the slipstich it was hard to get into that one. But I did a second one and turned out perfect
@@borostyankvaszta7128thank you for pointing this out! ive had to redo mine 3 times until finally seeking the comments section for help and im glad youve commented this cause i finally realized why ive only been getting 8 on the last side, thank you!
@diamond3170 hey, so it actually does show the count. Each numbered row counts as one stitch space that you will work into(1. Is the first stitch you're working into, 2. Is the second, so on) and each stitch will contain two stitches. So, for example, number 2 says "sc hdc," so in that second stitch space of your moon, you will work one single crochet and one half double crochet. If that makes sense lol I'm bad at explaining 😅

Oh yay, I'm so glad to hear you're getting into crochet and that this pattern worked well for you! As for your other granny squares....perhaps you're putting too many stitches into each side, that might cause it to go wavy. Are you following a tutorial for that one? If you're on TikTok send me a vid of what's going wrong and maybe I can help out!
@@julescraftfolk thank you for your response! How can I find you on tiktok?
I’m just learning to crochet, can I use worsted weight yarn? I was just gifted a whole bunch of that weight lol
Is this pattern set for sale somewhere? I've tried lookinng and cant find it.
this was such a beautiful tutorial thank u so much!! my squares look so pretty 🥺also omg would u share the music title or link? its so calming
Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it. And yes, the music is so relaxing. It's from artlist.io - in order it is Nsee 'Frozen Lake', Idokay 'I Was All Alone', Adriene de la Salle 'Shimmer', Roie Shpigler 'Proximity', Laurel Violet 'Looking Back From Here'
I got to round 3 and can’t go any further u say to continue the pattern after the second corner only halfway thru the moon…. I tried going back but I am unable to find where and witch stitch I need to use
Do u have a Full video? It’s hard for a beginner to follow along if u skip over parts.
Any recs?
If you use a bigger hook and thicker yarn it'll be bigger 😊
@ thanks!
These are so pretty 😍 can you use thicker yarn to do these as well? I’m a beginner and I’m struggling with DK yarn but am okay with Aran and chunky
Hi! Yes, it’s fine to use thicker yarn, your squares will end up bigger. Just use a crochet hook the correct size for the yarn. Good luck!
Thank you! @@julescraftfolk
@@julescraftfolk thanks, I'll give that a try😁😁
Like many others I see in the comments, am coming up short when I get to the last side 4th row (making the square). I use a CH3 instead of the complex stitch you show after. However, when I watch the alternate stitch you use, it seems you stitch into the next space whereas the CH3 does not do that. Is this where I’m coming up short?? I have made this 3 different ways, and the square is uneven each time because of it.
Hi! So you want to make sure you slip stitch into the very first stitch of the moon (this was the slip stitch and will be directly after the knot) see timestamp: 10:01
Then you can use a chain 3 or the alternate stitch I use (this still stitches into the same stitchso it’s exactly like a chain 3) see timestamp: 10:27
The next stitch is an extended double crochet (this should be worked into the top of the single crochet of the moon) see timestamp 21:15
Then the corner gets made into the top of the half double crochet of the moon.

12:11 for side rep
Are the numbers of outer stitch same like the star one ! It qould be a trouble if it's not sice i'm planning to connect it
Hello! Yes, the sun, moon, and star squares all have the same number of stitches on the sides. They look great joined together!
I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m a beginner! :,) is this UK or US terminology? :)
Not a stupid question…I should’ve said that it’s US terms. Have fun on your crochet learning journey, you’re going to love it!
Sorry what yarn is this called?
The yarn is from an Australian brand called Blackwattle. It's the Bluegum yarn in Songbird colourway.
Where is the yarn from!
The white yarn is just a standard 8ply cotton from Spotlight in Australia - “Four Seasons” brand “Flinders” range. The hand dyed yarn is also Australian - Blackwattle is the name of the company, and it’s the “Bluegum” yarn in “Songbird” colourway. It is such a pretty yarn…but if you’re overseas check out boutique dyers, they might have something similar 😄

Hi! It is Four Seasons brand Flinders cotton. I got it from spotlight!
How big does it turn out?
You can choose to do one round of the background or two depending on how large you want the squares. With one round mine are 3.5inches / 9cm. With two rounds they are 4.5inches / 11.5cm
@@julescraftfolk okay thank you!! I’ll use a little bit thicker yarn and a 4mm hook and hope it turns out 13cm, bc that’s the size I need!
@@Catsarebreadyou could always try adding an extra round of double crochet…or half double crochet. That would get it around 13cm I think.
@@julescraftfolk I’ll try that first then! Thank you for your help!!

I keep ending up with ten stitches or 9 with a big gap on my first round after the moon :(
Hello! It might be that you have an extra stitch in the second round of the middle circle (before you made the moon). If so, look at timestamp 4:30 and make sure you're joining this circle up at the first DC....also count the stitches in this circle and make sure you have the right amount. Good Luck!!
How big are these?
round 3 is not well explained, wtf is happening?

Following along with the tutorial and like, it doesn't work? Ive counted a million times and followd the tutorial exactly but still at the end of round 4 i always have 15 stitches instead of 13? Whats going on? Everything else worked perfectly up until the very end. The stritches worked out fine until the end.
I'm seem to be missing a stitch somewhere as the last side is only 8...😢
And somehow I only getting 12 stitches in the outer edge
Oh no! Perhaps there is something going wrong with the moon round and you’re left a few stitches short. If you wanna send me a photo on Insta @craftfolk I’ll see if I can figure it out 😀
Thanks. I found what I did wrong. When switching back to the "sky" yarn I skipped the first stich of the moon. Which was the slipstich it was hard to get into that one. But I did a second one and turned out perfect

yeh but you not even saying the count
@diamond3170 hey, so it actually does show the count. Each numbered row counts as one stitch space that you will work into(1. Is the first stitch you're working into, 2. Is the second, so on) and each stitch will contain two stitches. So, for example, number 2 says "sc hdc," so in that second stitch space of your moon, you will work one single crochet and one half double crochet. If that makes sense lol I'm bad at explaining 😅
