  • Donald Voorhees (1903, Allentown, Pennsylvania--1989, New Jersey) was an American composer and conductor. From 1935 to 1941, and from 1949 to 1953 Voorhees was the musical director and conductor for the radio and television show, Cavalcade of America. Voorhees also served as conductor of the Bell Telephone Hour orchestra for 26 years, from its first broadcasts on radio in 1942 until its final television episode in 1968. He was also the first conductor of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra.
„I'm Through With Love" was a hit song of 1931, made immortal by Marilyn Monroe's interpretation in Billy Wilder's comedy „Some Like It Hot" (1959). The couple of views in my clip show the historical Coronado Hotel, San Diego, where the movie was made.
    Recording:
Don Voorhees & His Orchestra - I'm Through With Love (Kahn, Malneck, Livingston), Hit Of The Week 1931

A great old tune and a nice arrangement, and the Marilyn photos were much appreciated. A terribly tragic life for the most part, used and abused by many, sadly.
I hit the teen aged years when she was very popular, and was the subject of many adolescent fantasies. Sigh.
    Thanks for this.

I'm with you, Patrick. MM has no place among these great songs. The girl looked good, but she couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

A lovely song but it goes at such a lick that the pathos is lost - they seemed to want to get it over quickly! Made me dig out and play Bing Crosby's 1931 recording with a studio orchestra which is close to perfect - not yet on YT it seems.

@Desoto875 hello! So many good versions of this song, a classic, with great bands. But Alfalfa's performance still breaks me up, rooster and all.
Desoto? Hey- we had a '59 Desoto- great car. Back when we made things to last.
And Spike Jones had many very talented musicians, as well as lots of fun.
    Thanks for writing.

I can understand a purist's point of view regarding Marilyn, but people do remember her singing this song in "Some Like It Hot." Thus the connection.

this is a great number. marilyn is just fine here; after all, she did a wonderful sultry version in Some Like It Hot. so she couldn't sing...well..so what; she is nice on the eyes...ha. thanks.

she made this song famous or more famous than it was when she sang it in the movie Some like it hot. probably the one who uploaded this is a Marilyn fan or heard it for the first time in that movie either way there is some corelation between the pictures and the song

@baghend I hear the versions that were not done by Alfalfa, and still expect to hear the Rooster crow. Even as a very young child 5, or 6 I wished that Alfalfa had not had that Rooster accompaniment because the song was so very good (The Band). Sorta like Spike Jones version of "Laura" I think Vaughn Monroe was the singer, but the Orchestra was so good on that song before all mayhem broke out. I think I liked it better than the movie soundtrack version.

maybe they want to see Jean Harlow who would be a movie star of this era. A fine song though, don't listen to the complaints.

@andreidinax ok....I guess that's ONE excuse to continue to overexpose Marilyn...although her image will forever be connected to the very late 40s, 50s and early 60s at most. Just my two-cents.
