It was one I'd never heard of before so I asked her where her name was from. She said it was Basque so I said Euskadi....she almost fell over. The Basque people need their own fully independent country. Hopefully it can be achieved without bloodshed.

First, Spain was not responsible of Gernika. Spain was fighting against the fascists rebels that bombed the town. Basque nationalist soldiers (gudaris) surrendered to the enemy in Santoña, and many other basques (Carlists) joined the fascist side, while republicans fought to death in Madrid and the battles of Jarama and Ebro.. .

Euskadi does not boost Spanish economy, on the contrary basques take lot of profits being in Spain. They have their own treasury department and a level of self government no other region in Europe has(parliament, education, police...). Both Basque autonomy and the autonomy of Nevarre have the best life quality levels in Spain and are among the highest income per person in Europe. Occupation? Not even the 30% of the basque citizens (7 provinces) is basque separatist.

Dunno, I think life's too short to spend it upset. I prefer love, friendship and the exchange of ideas. You know, the pleasure of realizing there's more bringing us together than separating us. I really don't understand the need to define one's culture in opposition to the rest.

Euskadi does not boost Spanish economy, on the contrary basques take lot of profits being in Spain.
They have their own treasury department and a level of self government no other region in Europe has(parliament, education, police...). Both Basque autonomy and the autonomy of Nevarre have the best life quality levels in Spain and are among the highest income per person in Europe. Occupation? Not even the 30% of the basque citizens (7 provinces) is basque separatist.
