  • The FDNY along with the First Responder Center for Excellence, an affiliate of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and a key partner with the FDNY’s Reduce Your Risk publication, have teamed up once again. Research has shown that as firefighters, we are at an increased risk for cancer and other diseases. The reality is that firefighting is a dirty job and we will never eliminate all hazards we face. The following video provides you with 15 simple actions that you can take to minimize your risk from occupational exposure to fireground contaminants.

Great video! It appears some of your folks enjoyed making the video. There is a lot of cleaning in the fire service and I have often stated FFs make good maids. I especially appreciate Action 15. Never under estimate the power of a healthy body to resist illness and disease. While fire fighters have a 2x probability for cancer, so too do the obese. Protect your family and be there for the long haul. God bless!

I wish this information was available when I started on the job. It would have prevented a lot of sickness, suffering and death.

Wonderful video that is quick and to the point. And I appreciate the point made about the culture of dirty gear isn’t cool but dangerous (my words, not theirs).
