Yesterday, the teens from my church (Colonial Hills Baptist Church) were driving home from camp. The church bus flipped over and three friends of mine died. Today, we remembered them in our Sunday morning service and I will be singing this song tonight. What a comfort this song is to my heart and I hope it will be for the rest of my church family as well.

This song reminds me of when I was in Delaware and my mom was dying I was only 7 she died from one of her vains popped so we had to live to VA. I was abused my my grandma my parents divorced when I was 4 and I didn’t really know what was going on so I didn’t think much of it. But now I have am amazing Christian Step- mom whose super nice and loves me and my sister equally. My grandma didnt like me bcuz I look like my dad so... she loved my sister more and hated me bcuz I was outspoken, but I love where I am now amd I have accepted what has happened I have an amazing family who loves me dearly and same am my sister. I awakened today feeling very unwell, which made me feel anxious. In times past, I would have had a tablet to take for this, but we've been singing this song in church lately, and it just touches my heart so deeply! So I found it on youtube--first time I've heard the recording--and it's really ministered to me, along with Psalms 91: 1-3, which goes with the song.

What a novel idea: A praise and worship song with some actual theological meaning to it! I am actually both in a traditional church choir and in a praise and worship group. Both have really fantastic moments, and hopefully convey the same basic meaning: that Jesus loves you! But so many choruses have become a lot of "Jesus, make me feel good" (which does have its place, by the way), or a lot of "you-can-do-it" theology (again, there is a time and place for that). If I were the leader of our group, I would have a good mix of balance -- some teaching mixed with good 'relationship" songs -- even including the very things I've kind of railed against above. But so often, our playlists are what I call "Top 40 Christian Tunes," which makes whatever is "hip" of first priority. There are also times where I wish we could do a straight half hour of music before the service, so we could hit all of "my" checkpoints, but time does constrain us. I guess my whole thing here is to call us to be people of balance -- there are songs that make us feel good, but there are also songs that challenge us to walk our talk! In any case, may The Lord be blessed in our words, our songs, and more importantly: in our actions! The Gettys are terrific songwriters -- keep up the great work, you guys!

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
