As a child my dad use to watch Larry King interviews. One of my favourite memories as a kid was waiting for Larry King to come on so we could sneak into the kitchen and eat all the cookies while he was watching Larry. RIP Legend.

Larry King was a success because he loved his work and seemed sincerely interested in the people he met. He was respectful yet he subtly challenged his guests.

Two things I’ll always think of when I remember Larry:
    1) He took over our lives each night during the entire OJ “thing”. Pre trial, during the trial, and post trial.
If I had a favorite 9 PM show I recorded the CNN repeat broadcast at midnight. I didn’t want to miss a minute of it.
    2) His interview with Matthew Perry. Matthew had a well known drug dependency problem after his car accident and drugs prescribed for continued back pain. He was so open in that interview, and Larry admired how he had overcome his battles.
At the end of the show Larry took off his suspenders and gave them to Matthew. To my knowledge that’s the only time he ever did that.
I was glad he continued his interviews on his streaming program. We were given the gift of more great interviews.
He was non political, treated guests from either party with great respect.
Sadly, those days are gone forever. I’m sure he was disgusted when seeing what passes for “talk shows” now.
R.I.P. Larry. You were the greatest.

Letter From Israel: The Last Raconteur
I’m watching a video of Dave Rubin interviewing Larry King from 2018
    .
I think King was the last man who could say he spoke to Malcom X, Lenny Bruce, Jimmy Carter, Yitzhak Rabin, Marlon Brando, Richard Nixon and thousands of others.
Maybe he is the only man.
I am sorry to say that with the death of Larry King, we may be witnessing the death of the art of conversation.
The names dripping from his lips were an authentic evocation of the ability of this man to treat the person across the table from him with respect, dignity, intelligence and the recognition that he or she had something to say.
He was never snide, or sarcastic or (God forbid) yelling, ripping his interview apart making sure he understood how wrong and stupid and wicked he was.
Larry King interviewed them all; from George Wallace to Liberace; George Lincoln Rockwell, to Bella Abzug…this man didn’t just cover the waterfront; he traversed the world of interesting people.
And what about those who were not so interesting? He PULLED OUT the interesting life that even the dullest of us keeps within.
He pulled it out of them like filleting a fine steak.
On his old radio show and on television, Larry King GOT every story he went after. Not like the brutes today who live off of their mouths and have traded in their brains for looks.
    It Must Be Said
I listened to Larry King on the old Mutual Radio Network for many years before I ever saw him. Then when I saw him on TV for the first time, well, Ma, I gotta tell you; I was a little scared. The kind of scared where I just have to hide behind your skirt.
Larry King was not a pretty face. His multitude of wives loved him, but his was a face only a Mother could love.
But I grew to love that old hawk face. He brought warmth, wit, intelligence and most of all, more than anything, a piercing, penetrating curiosity to every conversation. Whether it was Debbie Reynolds or Strom Thurmond.
Larry King told Dave Rubin in 2018 that if he had been able to interview Osama Bin Laden, the first question WOULD NOT have been “Why did you attack the World Trade Center” instead he would have asked him “here you are from one of the richest families in the world, in Saudi Arabia…and you leave it…why would you do that”?
Larry could sit across the table from intense evil (Yasser Arafat) and treat him with same courtesy as a great man (Ronald Reagan) because he understood, probably better than anyone that I’m aware of, that you cannot get a man’s story if he feels you are his enemy.
We will miss Larry King like we miss Johnny Carson.
His shoes are not just far too big for anyone on the horizon; Larry King was UNAFRAID to take off his shoes and walk gingerly along the hot coals of the characters of the world.
We are greatly diminished by his leave-taking
