Thoroughly enjoyed that. First encountered the (then) Tricast Barnsley Blacks in 1986 on the Klavarlen River, in Karlstad, Sweden, on a WL final. The ferry from Harwich to Gothenburg was a hoot, learning (by watching) how to play poker. The fishing was incredible. The country was amazing. The weather was scorching (June). Got one of Tommy's purple Connoisseur Waggler Specials., and will never sell it. Watched the first 2h12m not signed in, so that's a "view". Watched the rest when signed in, so that's another "view". Commented.....POSITIVELY. Thankyou Matt, Toby, Guru, and Tommy.
Well Tommy I never thought I would would watch a video for for 4.090 hour's and no body is actually fishing in it ,ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT total respect bud , and that is from a Lancastrian.
Please please get Tommy back on again I could listen for hours. Used to go to his shop and this reminded me how interesting he is to listen to. Thanks Guru and Thanks Tom
Wow, what a captivating interview! Can't believe I watched the full 4 hours, so good! I could listen to Tommy for hours. What a life & career in fishing he's had. He speaks from the heart ♥ Well done Tom & Matt! I'd have loved to know if he did go to church that Sunday after winning the world champs. Ya can't make a deal with God & not keep your end of the deal 😉🙌🏽🙌🏽 I remember him coming to my junior club to do talks/presentations for the kids, which is over 25 years ago. Legend of a man!
this is the best podcast ive ever listened to , straight talking down to earth guy is tom ,absolutely wonderful stories , well done to the guru staff ,cant wait for the second one ,atb guys
I've been hoping and waiting for this one....this man is an absolute legend. The book is a must-read for any angler of any angling discipline. Brilliant work Matt and team Guru...thank you. 👍
Brilliant ,just brilliant. Had a Tom Pickering stick float special years ago and have regretted selling it since the day it left. Great story telling and a great interview
Just genuinely a nice bloke, at the same time doesn't suffer fools🤣 The bit where he was struggling mentally...which I didn't know about, got to me. Sandra actually going and knocking him up after Alan saw he hadn't come to a match, and was concerned about him teared me up. That's what fantastic friends and good people do. I could listen to him for hours....actually just did🤔🤣 I also have a Tommy Pickering stick float rod btw....it actually belonged to him and was used by him, a Daiwa whisker kevlar prototype 13 foot....Been quite a few years since I used it, but still looked after and cherished.
Tommy Pickering what a man, what a legend. I could listen to him for hours he is an inspiration and driving force in angling and life. I first heard of tommy when i was collecting The Art of Fishing and read his article fishing Fleets dam and ive followed him since. Keep up the outstanding work and where can i get a copy of Born to Win
What an amazing podcast lads. Think I went through every emotion watching that. Can't wait to read Mr Pickerings book now aswell. Top notch well done all
I still use Toms stick floats. He used to bring me casters when we fished the Twyford midweek matches in the 80's. Great fella, lost his phone number like a fool. Would love a chat with him !
There is no doubt Tommy Pickering is a match fishing legend whose name has not dimmed or diminished in statue from the Barnsley blacks days through all of the changes of our sport to today... one man whose name I think has diminished through no fault of his own through the ages is Dave Thomas who won the world title on the Avon in the 80s ,,, it was the images of him running his float through in front of what seemed to me was thousands of spectators that sparked my little mind into wanting to be like him one day, not to fish for England or win the world title but just to be good enough one day to get the chance to fish for a crowd like that ... I would love the chance for him to go back there again for 5 hours while thousands of us clap and cheer his every fish into the net ... id pay to go and watch that and so would your UA-cam audience .
For me his upward inflection on the end of sentences drove me fucking insane, like he’s asking a question 😂 really good stories I just managed to get through it haha
The legend Tommy Pickering is 4 hours was not enough, could listen to all his stories for hours and hours. Thank you Guru 👍
