I bought my 5513 in the late 70's, used for diving, bought in Curacao for $330. I used it for many years, I put it away when dive computers came out. I now have an antique Rolex and still runs great.
So true, you see one new BLRO or Panda you've seen them all.....vintage so much more character and takes a true enthusiast to buy vintage. Majority of the people buying new Rolex now are doing so for the investment aspect of it all.
Observation: It has more scratches than a jineteras' cell phone screen. Her back side too. It's perfect for a "What your watch says about you" Cuban occupations.
Thanks for posting this. I recently inherited what looks like the same watch from an uncle, but mine has a matte black face with a ghosting dark blue dial. My uncle had it since it was new. The serial number indicates that it was from 1978, but I couldn't find any images of a 1978 dial that matched until I found your video. So I guess it's all original - cool! Under my crystal, mine looks pristine except for the very mildly yellowing of the tritium paint, but the case and crystal are mildly scratched and pocked, like a well-worn tool watch (as far as I know it was his only watch and he wore it every day- it was the watch I'd always seen him wearing throughout the decades). Sad to have lost my uncle, but now have this treasured family artifact.
Yay, congrats, now that's a watch ! Got my 1967 one - that's on riveted bracelet - in 2021. Treasure pieces that you must keep for life. Picking up my 5513 soon at the bank. For now premoon 321 - also 1967 - on wrist. These pieces are unique ones. They are organic, alive because of the aging. Modern ones are dead.
Be careful, when you have your watched serviced by a dealer, those hands may get replaced and come back to you in a little baggie like mine did. These are tool watches. Official Rolex serevice centers bring them back to spec unless you tell them not to. Mine is two years older, but it was officially serviced ever decade or so as it went on >100 dives. So I had to make sure it was still sealed at least once a decade after banging into walls, coral, my desk. Love the watch, no dial or hand patina, just small bags with rubber rings, orig dial, one old plastic crystal, and other parts.
I have a 5513 with the Military Dial issued to Senior Officers. I have many other fine and collectible watches but the 5513 is my favourite and has the highest military history. The only downside is they now all stay in the Bank and I wear a new Tudor for daily wear !
Maybe it is a cycle for watch folk, right now 95% of all my watches are vintage or quite a bit older. They have a look that give them automatic character. cheers on your new/older banger
Love it . I have the same watch from 1971 . The character of these watches makes them so unique , and as you say there's no other , like the one you own . The difference with mine is the 'Submariner' writing is below the ft'/m. Good video
It’s my latest piece too, an exceptional example🎉 of a meters first 1966 with original riveted bracelet and strong lugs. Tritium hands/plots, original “ghost” bezel & a replacement Truedome crystal make it aesthetically outstanding ☝🏻😉
I bought my 5513 in 1969 in Vietnam and wore it for almost a year there. I still wear it today and it looks almost new compared to this one. Paid $125 for it which was half price stateside. Probably would sell for 15 thou or more now. It was manufactured in 1966.
If I bought a watch it would def be something like this. Good choice. Some of those other watches are so gaudy. This is classic clean and can go with any outfit.
Eric - I enjoyed the video on your new 5513 acquisition. I totally get what you're saying about those vintage timepieces.. each one has it's unique story to tell. I also have a modern watch collection and had a 1967 meters first 5513 but sold it 3 years ago. BIG Fk'n mistake and recently picked up another 5513 (i.e., 1963 open gilt chapter ring, underlined dial, pointed crown guards and long 5 ghost bezel). This one is staying for the duration and will be passed along to my grandson when I am gone. The old Submariner has been glued to my wrist since it arrived and my other watches are crying in the watch box from neglect! Enjoy your 5513... in my mind there's nothing better!!! 😍😍😍
Very informative video, thanks for sharing and congrats on your new piece! A request for future content, I would love to see some unboxing videos. You just sitting down chatting about popular watches and showing wrist shots. Watch videos sprinkled in with your new podcast format would be nice. You can never share too much watch content. Keep grinding Boss! ✌🏾
Is that a birth year watch? The newer watches won't oxidize like these. They used to make the hands with stainless steel so they were more prone to oxidation/rust. Rolex switched to white gold so even though they will age, they probably won't develop that 'crust' you are talking about. Congrats on the new watch, awesome!
Tudor should create a blue BB58 with yellow or rose gold inside it would have even more charm and personality like this vintage rolex. It will be also in perfect condition for a cheap price.
Great find Eric and nice of you to contrast this purchase with your less in original condition Sub. You don't save that much accepting some polishing and replaced parts, even if done by Rolex, and in the end you'll go down the rabbit hole a bit deeper and will look for a more vintage preserved piece. Enjoy both nevertheless!
Dear Lord Jehovah! This watch is fucking stellar. The imperfections of this watch are straight up perfection. I am looking myself for a 5513 from 1980 my birth year. Good God sir you have great taste. Modern watches don’t have the soul or charm as this.
Eric you hit the bull eye with this video. I switched part of my collection to a Vintage Rolex ones (6542-6239-1675-1665 DRSD), the reason is that each one of them have uniques characteristics, soul ,history and requires kwnloledgment not just money to have a great piece. Modern ones I like but lacks of that connection that i have with my vintages ones.

Wow! $330!!!!!!!!
Is it double signed? Serpico y Laino?

I do love all watches. But I guess lately the hunt/find gets me going
Observation: It has more scratches than a jineteras' cell phone screen. Her back side too. It's perfect for a "What your watch says about you" Cuban occupations.
Omg!😂
5513 is the BEST WATCH TO HAVE. IT WILL NEVER GO DOWN IN PRICE OR STATUS AS RICH PEOPLE ONLY HAVE THESE WATCHES NOW. Congrats! 😄

This has made me really like vintage pieces, the explanation regarding oxidation was awesome! See I learnt something today
I am glad that you enjoyed it man!

I bought the same yesterday
5513 no date 1969
I was very scared, but now i am happy and grateful to find it

Anything from the 70's is good, watches, music, cars! How can you go wrong. Brilliant piece!

Vintage subs, 5513, 5512 and 1680 are the sweet spot.
I understand totally. Beautiful 5513
Finally a watch review, forget them podcast's.
Thanks for the detailed information about what makes it nice. I have a meter first 5513 that I love
Good video! First word problems, we see a destroyed piece as nicer than a super modern beauty that is light years ahead of the old one!!
Maybe it is a cycle for watch folk, right now 95% of all my watches are vintage or quite a bit older. They have a look that give them automatic character. cheers on your new/older banger

@@WatchEric What's the red bracelet about eric?
So interesting! I love Eric’s videos.
Great find and that it's all original and hasn't been polished is amazing. Looks great!
Always vintage for me! Well done 👍
@ Minut 4:40
Beautiful 1553. but the second hand doesn't move very smoothly. With all due respect. it almost looks like a quartz
Exciting find Eric! Love the backstory too. That crystal practically jumped out of my iPad screen!
Hey Eric, Very well done !!!!!! I`m a vintage guy and I think you have a classic example of a awesome timepiece . That`s a keeper for sure . Great job
I would buy that in a heartbeat but I have trust issues.
That’s my birth year grail watch! Love the slightly more “ghost” bezel versions, but beautiful watch Eric!

@@roywallace3964 outstanding 👌🏻
I have this same watch. I use car polish to get the scratches out of the acrylic dome.
I’ve got a 1967 5513. It’s such an iconic and charming model. I hope you enjoy yours.
Nice watch!
@@WatchEric yours is an amazing example. Never polished and lovely patina.
What a fantastic video
Absolutely fekkin gorjus watch

Great pickup ! We have s 1984 rootbeer in stock if it was one year older I would buy it in heartbeat
🔥🔥🙌
Enjoy this beautiful Rolex. Very cool ☀️❤😎😎
😎💥🙌
Vintage Rolex Submariners are the best 👌 I own a Submariner 14060m and a 5513 is on the hit list.
Nice MK3, congratz - enjoy!
The submariner pure class with out the cyclops wort love it 😍🔥
Vintage and OG beats new and hype any day!👍🏻
That’s the way we love your videos!
👏👏👏👏
Great watch!

Great idea!
Wow would like 5513 or 5512 with the 3.6.9 Dial
Thanks Eric I think I'll bring out one of my vintage for tomorrow's interview
When I saw the Submariner in 1975, i loved the distortion at the side of the crystal; so, my next watch is the Deep-sea.

That information is also correct. That is what makes it so interestingz
Great Watch and nothing fits better in a 911. Best Combo you can buy. That's the Guy
💥🔥😎🙌
Love the maxi dial, congrats on a great 5513 find.
Stellar example! Perhaps the type of metal also affects oxidation. Anyways pure class, ok chow!
Beautiful patina, great looking watch👍
Thank you!!
Charming piece
Great buy Eric. Buy with your heart!
And gut!
Nice! Does it keep time still?
Eric, big congrats! Wear it in the best of health!
Good to see your channel growing steadily. 👍
Very nice watch added your awesome collection!!
Great find by your guy and great buy by you. Another Eric keeper!
It takes patience and time.
Nice one. Got an 81 "almost" the same.
Wow, Eric is shifting from Modern models into Vintage pieces. 🤔
Awesome piece ❤
Hi Eric will you be at the Munich Watch Fair 2022 on the 09.10.2022?
You sold it to me Eric!!! I have to have one now 😎what’s the very first thing to look for on the bracelet to see if original?
Sending love from the Philippines!❤ my name is Eric to man!💪🏽🇵🇭
Great find .. it’s a old like me heavy hitter great to c u out and about again .. Sarasota Charlie
very nice! How's the internals on that bad boy?
Now that’s a watch! 👍
Forget the RM bs
Superb! Vintage is the best
That's the watch that Nick Nolte wears in the film "The Deep."
Unique vintage watch with character for the same price as a modern cookie cutter Batman (for example)
Worth it now and in the long run!
Good buy
That watch is badass!!! It was a helluva find....congrats!
What a beauty!!!!
The Pepsi’s, now this. Great taste.
It’s important to understand what oxidation is… it’s with a loss of hydrogen or a oxygen bond gaining an additional organic bond
Lovely piece Eric. Wear it in good health. Question - would you get a watch of this vintage serviced if it is not running to spec?
Not really. If its running (which it actually is) I just leave it. Unless it completely stops.
Tudor should create a blue BB58 with yellow or rose gold inside it would have even more charm and personality like this vintage rolex. It will be also in perfect condition for a cheap price.
I have a 1969 5513 and back in 1996 I took to Rolex fifth avenue for service and they replaced some parts with new ones
nice work!
Congrats, she’s a beauty!
