Great insights, but Angier was Lord Caldlow in the movie too. This is the family background he was hiding his performative pursuits from, and why - as you stated - he had a great deal of resources at hand.
this is in my top 2 films of all time - i follow you guys on tiktok for clips but this is the first time i've watched/listened to a whole pod. really enjoyed it
Best Nolan movie by a mile. It’s magical realism and it’s just so entertaining, and has just the right amount of food for thought about so many widely ranging topics
Aprox 10 yrs ago, people on Reddit + Wikipedia thought i was stupid for saying how great i thought this movie was & dismissed the theories & complexities i proposed. I'm glad, with enough time, other people are starting to see some of the points i found as interesting & compelling plot points that require more than 1 viewing to fully understand-
I understood from first viewing that the machine didn’t actually work. Most people are stupid and easily fooled. Then Michael caine says exactly that. Anyone who thought he killed himself is a fool
It honestly amazes me how much you blokes have turned this channel in to what it is now. From watching your earlier videos to what you produce now is unreal. From content and even the editing is a massive step up. How does anyone UNSUBSCRIBE!! 😉 keep it up guys!!
Another thing with the mirrored deaths that I noticed: the first Angier gets shot and killed just after he duplicates himself. And the last Angier gets shot and killed by Borden at the end.
I’ve rewatched this movie after watching your podcast episode and I can’t thank you guys enough. This movie has so much more depth and meaning than I originally thought. I love noticing things in movies that I’ve never noticed before. I was always so confused with the time jumps and I always saw Angier as the good guy and was sad at the end of the movie. However after I watched this episode of the podcast I realized that it isn’t that simple. Love your content guys. Can’t wait for much more. Bright futures ahead for you both.
I have been waiting for you guys to do this for like a year. I watched it twice in one week the first two times I saw it it’s such a great movie, I commented on another video about it but didn’t think y’all would do a full episode on it def worth it such a great movie
Absolutely loved this film, one of my all time favorites. 🤟🏼 Could you guys do a video on the film, The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)? Feel like it’s a very under appreciated film.
Great video as always. A few things that I`d like to add: 1. In the end Cutter probably felt very guilty for encouraging Danton (THE NAME STAYS!) to "get his hands dirty", that`s probably why he helped Borden. 2. Freddy was a dick and almost as bad as Danton. He may not have been a murderer, but he was all for injuring others, not just Danton (breaking his leg), but innocent spectators as well (the woman who volunteered for Danton`s dove trick). Also, I`m pretty sure he tied the harder knot intentionally which led to Julia`s death, and he was also at least in part at fault for Sarah`s suicide. He probably didn`t deserve to hang, but some kind of punishment had to come his way. I`m glad that in the end the better brother got his life and daughter back, a bittersweet ending.
He didn't create Lord Cordlow. He always was Cordlow. He even says it to Bordon in the prison. "I am. I always have been." He created the American accent to distance himself from his family as they saw his magician career as an embarrassment. He was always acting like someone else. The difference between his acting and Bordon's acting is that he isn't doing it for one trick. He was doing it for an entire lifestyle change which is more practical.
Sorry to keep commenting but love the comment about Nolans magic trick. He constantly tells you but you don't notice. I love movies that on a second watch its totally different. At first its magic in the second its sacrifice. I love the idea that its a Nolan autobiography about old school film versus CGI. Im sure you mention that soon, i'm only 12 minutes in. Peace xxx
This movie is just awesome! I absolutely love the twist and it’s just set up so well. Been waiting for this episode for a while. Love the channel guys 😄
@@raidersofthelostpodcast_ halfway through already! Loving it so far 😄. I’m a huge movie fan and I’m having a difficult time finding anyone at my age who really cares about movies and loves them as much I do, so finding this podcast a few months ago was just amazing. I feel like many young people like me don’t really take time to discuss the movies they watch and just kinda go on to the next thing that looks entertaining, instead of keeping movies in their heads for (sometimes) months and thinking about them. So for someone like me who is looking for that discussion about movies this podcast is an absolute joy to listen to. Gonna tune in for anything you guys talk about! 10/10 content 👌
You guys are probably too young but people saw Hugh Jackman outside of X-Men. He was in Someone Like You with Ashley Judd and Kate and Leopold with Meg Ryan. He also did Van Helsing which sucked, but that was all before The Prestige. Also Swordfish was an action-thriller with Travolta and Halle Berry.
So would y'all say every time Angier makes a copy of himself that he is splitting his soul? Or can I sole not be split but simply resides within the original being? How how many times would it take before he was soulless?

@@MikePianoMan85 they are identical twins. Angier says it. Borden wrote down TESLA on the paper to send Angier in the wrong direction and waste all his money
Tesla himself said he made a machine for Alfred but it didn’t do anything. Alfred wanted Robert to go on a fools errand and waste his time and money, but he never counted on Tesla making a machine that actually worked.
If the machine is real, why wouldn't Tesla just make his own money to solve his financial problems? If the machine is real, why would Angier still try to get the secret to Borden's trick as he awaited execution in prison? If the machine is real, why would Angier, upon seeing Borden at the end, immediately guess Borden was a twin if cloning is possible? You only ever saw 2 angiers...Angier and Root. You never saw more. You only saw lots of boxes, but only one with one dead Angier.(Root). All the rest were covered up. He only had to drown him once. Basically, Angiers was bating Borden, with 100 shows and trying to stich him up for murder. Which he kinda did There's only one v short scene where you see angier being cloned. But this came from the dodgy diaries they wrote for each other. The premise with those though was that they were written to fool the other magician. Every trick had some secret or needed considerable sacrifice to convince you of the act. (Like the Oriental magician pretending to be old and from Japan...he was an American bloke strong enough to carry that massive fish bowl). This is what makes this movie so spectacular.
