Otto Weidinger was head of the Das Reich division, a regiment of the SS. His men had spent the war in battle on the Eastern Front, facing Soviet troops. When he got word of Germany’s imminent defeat, he reorganized his men and awaited instructions.
Called to Prague, he received his new orders. Upon returning to his men, he informed them of Hitler’s death, but said they had to remember their duty: they were German soldiers who had vowed to fight for their country.
Weidinger heard a revolt had begun in Prague. German occupiers were being punished for their horrific treatment of Czech soldiers and citizens alike. Any German there was in danger of being killed. Weidinger knew he had to help get his fellow Germans out of that city.
He and his men met resistance as soon as they neared Prague. First, a cobblestone blockade, then enemy fire under cover of darkness. But finally, he was able to get his men moving to the heart of the city, under a very delicate ceasefire agreement with the locals.
A Czech officer sent word to Weidinger that negotiations were possible. The SS officer set a deadline, which came and went, but finally, Weidinger got word that he could take Germans out of Prague without fear of reprisals. He would be allowed to gather his people and escort them to Pilsen, where they could surrender to American troops.
But Weidinger faced a new hurdle as he tried to organize the evacuation: the numbers. When word of his arrival in Prague and his mission spread, droves of German soldiers began pouring into the area.
No Germans wanted to be left in the hands of the Russian soldiers or the Czechs, whom they had treated so abysmally while occupying their city. But there were not enough trucks to transport everyone: German citizens, wounded soldiers, and hundreds of other troops.
Finally, on May 8th, Weidinger had gathered enough vehicles to lead the multitude of people out of Prague, and head for Pilsen. A thousand trucks holding thousands of people began the trek.
On the way, Weidinger met a German general and a Czech colonel, who ordered him, and his men, to surrender their weapons immediately. He and his men did what they were told.
Weidinger took the wounded men and all the civilians to Pilsen. Then, he and his men got back into their trucks and headed to Rokiczany. There, they all surrendered to the 2nd U.S. Infantry Division. Weidinger had completed his final mission: get these German soldiers and civilians to relative safety. It was May 8, 1945, and Adolf Hitler had been dead more than one week, but for Weidinger, only now was the war finally over.

The Obersturmbannführer in the film have been identified as Michael Kneissl, who was in the column that left Prague and arrived at the Ejpovice camp on 9th May 1945. He was sent back to the Czechs and executed according to Axishistory.

This filming corresponds to Cameraman Lindsay, it is not in chronological order, it begins on May 8, 1945 with a group of supposed SS at the exit of the town Rokycany (approximately 10 A.M.).
Min 2.24 about 2000 members of the Wehrmacht and other members are detained by members of the US army and taken to Pilsen that filming is near the town of Myto at 7 AM on May 8 (that group would be divided into 4 groups in the city of Rokycany, the alleged SS group are the ones that appear at the beginning of the filming)
Min 2.47 filming begins on May 9, 1945 outside the city of Rokycany and then at its entrance.
Min 3.18 the infamous Karl Hermann Frank is filmed (according to the US chronicles, he was not arrested because there was not yet an arrest warrant and he was allowed to circulate towards the city of Pilsen, according to the Czechs, the US army He did not identify him and let him continue but Czech partisans detained him a few kilometers in the town of Ejpovice).
The filming continues with the arrival of more contingents of German prisoners and their allies (an estimated 45,000 soldiers and a larger group of civilians).
Min 11.09 the cameraman Lindsay is positioned outside the town of Myto on May 9, a few kilometers from where he filmed on May 8 in the morning.
Min12.58 Karola Blaschek or Karola Franková wife of the infamous K.H. is filmed. Frank who would then be handed over to the Czechs and then handed over to the Russians (she would return to Germany in 1955).
Min 15.40 filming corresponding to May 8 12 PM approximately to the largest group of the 2000 prisoners heading towards Pilsen (filming in the town of Ejovice)

I met a lot of these German men when I was in the Army in the 60s, and they had some incredible stories to tell. One family, the husband of which was shot in the elbow fighting the Russians on the Eastern Front. He had a stiff arm. His wife's brother was hauled off as a POW of the Russians never to return.

Not really. They fought the best they could under the circumstances, but they were defeated by weather, lack of supplies, lack of fuel, lack of medicine, lack of ammunition, lack, lack, lack. They were very good and valiant soldiers.

the nazis never could imagine that the simbols of their division would be the same of the Ukranian Azov Battalion at the orders of a jewish president.

Right ! not because they surrendered , after all they had lost, but because they show such relief and happiness to be now prisoners : just compare the faces of the millions of poles french brits belgians yougoslavians greeks russians etc made prisoners by the germans with their faces...even the Waffen SS major at 13:10 looks quite sereine , smiling ans saluting people when his country and its regime after numerous and unpreceded crimes falls apart..Hitler and Goebbels would have been very upset to watch that !

I'd say the last (real) victories were won around 1943. After that only operational sucesses were achieved (a few compared to the many operations that went south) and the defeat of the german army was very plain to see.
The believe, that a german soldier was the racial better fighter and could prevail over 10 russians was one of the biggest mistakes of the nationalsocialist war plans, but the myth of the invincible wehrmacht still lives on in some heads.
