I was only 7 years old when Steve Waugh took that outfield catch and I still can’t think of a better outfield catch in the 30+ years since!

The roar when Steve Waugh caught it. Very rare to see that in aus these days.

I was at the match where Steve Waugh took that catch next to the sight screen. I was in bay 13 which was at the opposite end of the ground, so it was hard to see what happened until he came out the other side.

Oh man, I was 8 then and I remember all of these - especially Steve Waugh's obviously, but also going to school the next week and impersonating Curtly Ambrose's catch.

I was watching that match with AB's c&b. Steve Waugh's when he had to avoid the fence, the sightscreen and Merv was just sheer judgement.

Curtly Ambrose's reaction after the caught and bowled was ho-hum

Rules were different back then. They changed for the sake of safety, and you can see from the Waugh catch why.

Learn the rules of the time flog...and then just go away and disappear, nobody will miss you.

@@chriswatson7965 The catch should have been ruled a 6 because Waugh ran behind the sightscreen which was the boundary. That was taught in umpiring courses in the following years.

@@jugheadsrule Are you sure that was the rule at the time? I thought that came in later.
