There's no doubt that the PS1 have better overall quality, but the classic feel of the SNES it's really epic and fitting to the series which is awesome, like the music and sounds that you can find in X1 and X2. If you played the first, you'll know exactly what i mean.
The SNES music is definitely much more robust and fitting for Mega Man X. I think the biggest problem that Capcom had with the PS1 was overdoing their compositions. They seemed really busy, and to top it off, they were usually muted and toned down in volume, so it came off more like elevator music.
@@Sairot247 SNES sounds like it's emulating guitars and band while the PS1 version is ironically much more of a synth sound that feels less in the tone
The PS1 arrangements completely miss the point. They sound all jazzy and overall lighter, as opposed to the much more action-packed, in-your-face metal sound of the SNES version. It's too bad too, more faithful arrangements of the original SNES soundtrack could've been awesome. Instead they just took out the guitars :/
Nah the ps1 ost just sounds better and has more life to it. X3 in particular aside from a few songs are complete hit or miss or very dull. I'm glad the refined ost makes them much more fun to listen to
A lot of people prefer the SNES style soundtrack because to them it keeps X3 in line with X2 and MegaMan X. However, I like the CD style audio because one: it sounds much better to me. And two: it represents the transition from SNES to PS1. Because people feel that X3 should stay in line with the first two games, they tend to see the SNES soundtrack as the fitting one, and that’s why we got the SNES version of the game in the X Legacy collections.
I'm sorry but as much as I love SNES soundtracks for MegaMan games, PS1 version blows it out of the water. the SNES version sounds so heavily butchered and slow.
PSX: The clarity of the instruments has been aided tremendously by the improved frequency response and an improved stereo mix which has done wonders for the overall feel of the music. It fits the tone of the game wonderfully and there isn't really a contest here. SNES: The snes is too distorted, the synths are plain and everything sounds dead and dull. It lacks any strong livelihood, it is just too damn muted. The snes does have a little charm to it but the charm isn't doing it any favours for this sound track.
The PSX will still have cleaner sound, but this video has really bad quality in the SNES rips, with most of the high-end missing for some reason. I did find the SNES X3 sound a bit lacking compared to X1 and 2 (like the game as a whole), but it's better than this video would lead you to believe.
I definitely think the SNES versions match the art style and the other two games better than the PS/Saturn versions, but that's the version that's on the collection set they put out some years ago which was my first time I got to play X3 (and was the first soundtrack I heard for the game) and anything else that was after the first game. I had the first one, but by the time I found out there was an X2 and an X3 it was way too late to get them at any sort of reasonable price.
Megaman X3 is much more than just a bunch of distorted guitar. X1 and X2 are proof of that, I really don't know where they went wrong with the quality of the instruments on this one for the SNES and the composition as well. Boomer Kuwanger, Launch Octopus, Sting Chameleon, Chill Penguin, all of X1's Sigma Stages, Crystal Snail, Bubble Crab, and the Intro/Final Stage theme, are all proof that the X series isn't about JUST the guitar, and the bits that are in some of the ones I just listed are sparingly there and they only enhance the themes, not drown out everything else. And don't get me started on the quality of the instruments in the SNES version, the guitar is god awful, they had it right with the likes of Storm Eagle, Spark Mandrill, Flame Mammoth, Flame Stag, Magna Centipede, and the first X Hunter Stage theme, are examples of much better guitar samples. The PSX version is objectively better in terms of quality, but if you prefer the SNES version that's fine, I like it too, to an extent, but it is not better than the PSX. Also I'm seeing a lot of people act like the PSX is just devoid guitar or is not rocking at all, which is not true because of Blast Hornet, Toxic Seahorse, Neon Tiger, and Crush Crawfish prove you wrong.
X1 had more Brass/Strings but it also had a fair use of Distortion/Overdrive guitars. On X2 the distorted guitar sounds like it's only on 1 channel & it's super high-pitched for some reason & it just sounds weird. X2 songs are also much shorter too for some reason. I'm assuming they were trying out the new soundfont given to them during development of X2 & I guess it's also suppose to save more sound memory on the SNES & then they kinda improved on it for X3. when the distorted guitar is mixed with the Overdrive Guitar it does give you a more badass feel to it which is shown quite a bit in X3. X3's Zero & Vile's theme are some of the best themes than any other X game imo. But the PSX version isn't bad either. I like Gravity Beetle, Crush Crawfish, & Doppler Stage 3's theme a bit more than the SNES counterparts. However, Zero's theme almost sounds more like Porn music & that Techno lead sound in Vile's theme doesn't sound near as epic as the Overdrive Lead on the SNES version. Now, I do agree with you. X2/X3's distorted guitar is not the best sounding guitar & it does sound a bit off on some of the songs. alot people praise it, I thought it's just ok. I've heard much MUCH better distorted guitar's on other SNES games.
I like the PS1 version just because of clarity and more interesting instruments. But I have to admit, the SNES intro stage is friggin' awesome. (Yes the PS1 version is the one I own, because of the X Collection.)
Definitely the SNES version over the PS1/Saturn versions though I still like both. In my opinion, they could’ve done better with X3 on the new consoles with newer graphics like X4 had instead of recycled sprites from the SNES version. I don’t get why we couldn’t get the PS1 and Saturn versions of X3 here. X3 is so fucking expensive (also don’t get why MM7 is so goddamn much). Lucky for us, we’re getting the whole entire thing of MMX on PS4, Switch and Xbox One (more interested in downloading them than buying a physical copy of them). I want Mega Man X9 to happen! yep, just because it's the one we played first doesn't mean it's better composed/arranged, just ask a random person that never played X3 which one sounds better, most of them will pick the psx vesion.

Japanese people love cuteness and most games from Capcom were defined as cute on PS1 such as Rival Schools, Mega Man Legends series and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. The only hardcore games were Mega Man 8, Strider 2, Resident Evil and Dino Crisis series.
The CD arrangements (remember that the game was also released on Saturn) are vastly superior in every aspect. The X-Buster charging sound, however, is better on the 16-bit version; in the 32-bit version it sounds "heavier".
the music sound a million times better on the snes in every single way it might be "lower quality" but it just sounds so much more badass and doesnt bore me like the cd music does the snes just sounds so much better
Genesis Does What Nintendoes!!! but the SNES sounds so infinitely badass and the ps1 sounds so boring i love the SNES sound chip because it sounds so awesome the limitations made capcom create this amazing music maybe endless possibilitys in terms of music arent that much of a good thing...
They're both good in their own right for different reasons. I just wish the PS1 version, or better yet the Anniversary collection, let you choose between the two. With all the other crap they crammed onto that disk, an extra soundtrack wouldn't have been that big of a stretch.
OK, so like many of you here, I'm a huge fan of Megaman, and consequently a huge fan of Megaman music. Because I'm so partial to the 16- and 8-bit eras, I prefer the SNES version and feel like the SNES version sounds better for a "video game." For those of you grew up with PSone and after, I totally get why that last sentence might sound bogus to you. Who decided what is vg music and what isn't? To my ears, the ps one version sounds too much like elevator music on some tracks; Zero's is a good example. It just does not have that kick to it that it needs- it is, after all, imitating the metal genre, isn't it? I always thought so. I will say that the screen selection and boss music is better on the ps one, however. On those tracks, it almost sounds like it was written for ps one. It's a cool comparison and I'm glad there are two versions out there. I just wish the damn thing was not so expensive on SNES!
Doesn't have that kick to it? Are you kidding the psx has way more kick here, the groove is more flexible so it flows better. Elevator music... thats just low, this sounds nothing like kenny g. But the sound track is cheesy as all hell, the snes only hides the cheesiness a little bit due to hardware limitations. If you don't like cheesy then you must hate the megaman games, they are cheese central.
I never thought the first three megaman x games were cheesy, especially not the music. Perhaps "elevator music" was the wrong term. I did think Megaman 8 and the later X games were a little corny, but I know some people really like those games, so I try not to give them a hard time. I grew up with classic NES megaman and the first two X games on SNES, and I stopped playing new megaman games after X2. I still think some of the X3 level themes are better on SNES.
One more thing just to explain (and I have fun analyzing music) is to listen to what instruments are being emulated in the intro stage. For the SNES version, they are simulating bass, drums, lead guitar, and distorted guitar (more metal-like). In the PSone version, they are emulating flute, keyboards/symphonic instruments, and piano (along with drums and bass). I think that's what I meant by "kick." If you want to say the sound quality is better on PSone, I agree. It's definitely clearer, but I prefer the SNES because it sounds more like games of the era that Capcom put out (X, Final Fight, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse, Street Fighter, etc.). I hope that helps you see what I meant.
Zander Aj It's okay if nostalgia is affecting your ability to give a blind analysis because it is literally impossible for you to do anyway. Some people also just like bit crushed distortion, I probably use it way too often on my beats. The SNES has a better sound chip design than the genesis, somehow it made game music sound good for the first time. The quality sucked but the internal synthesizer was impressive considering the limitations.
+Fellype Sousa Pimenta Is there like a Brazilian argument going on? Because I kept on getting comments on my notifications which I have no Idea what they're talking about + I'm unable to see them on my video comments.

@@Mr.Atari2600 he is just saying that these songs make him feel nostalgic. Most of the Brazilian comments are saying which version is the best or that they like the songs. Hope I could be helpful
I didn't have much love for the x3 ost as a whole, but I LOVE the textural reproductions on the PSX version. The drums sound straight out of a Casiopea/Chick Corea recording.
The Jazz rendition is fine, because during the 90s, Japan was going through a renaissance of Jazz. The Jazz rendition leaves a certain resonance with me and feels more memorable. The SNES one makes it more fuller, which is my preference, but I like both.
SuperNintendo version is better, because the PlayStation's sound is like a reinterpretation... However, later in the PlayStation Megaman X games developed the high quality true sound of Techno, Trance and of course Extreme Metal music and that usually we relate with Megaman X series. \m/
Snes wins, the soundtrack sounds more like megaman in 16 bit, the soundtrack in ps1 is not according to the game because the sounds are more like megaman in 32 bit as x5 and x6, (sorry for my english)
I like both both but I'd rather play with snes. Unfortunately, my only means of playing this game is from the mmx collection. And that game has the ps1 version instead of snes.
The PSX zero theme reminds me of Guile's theme. Personally, while I'll admit that I think the PSX sounds better, being on a more advanced console, and I've heard it more since I first played X3 on the MMX Collection, I'm a sucker for 16 bit, so I'd prefer the SNES version. This is also the reason I love the Castlevania 4 version of the song Bloody Tears over its other incarnations.
SNES version will definitely sound better just cause those consoles, Idk they just did something with the music that made it sound awesome. Though the SNES will sound superior in particular due to its BEASTLY sound chip. In most cases CD tracks will screw over the SNES music for sure (Rondo of Blood, anyone) though this time, Megaman truly shined more on Nintendo systems so he wins for the SNES.
The snes sound chip does have a personality but it can't compete with anything after the playstation came out, if the remix doesn't sound as good as the snes version then we are dealing with extreme incompetence or somebody has forgotten to take off their nostalgia blinders.
Medachod Yes the Saturn should have trumped all other consoles, it has an extremely impressive sound chip. Thanks to a dedicated sound processor. So if it isn't better than the PSX then I don't know what the problem was.
TTTTT The problem was the music just felt awkward. They probably aimed for the orchestrated approach, or something "new" despite video game sounds still sounding awesome, given it was the nineties; such as the SNES for instance which sounded beastly, you know? So the Saturn should have used the same music and sounds, and boom: it does noticeably better than the PSX version which used the new sounds. It combines the best sounds of the SNES version, but with the graphical capabilities of the Saturn version. Basically, we get an awesome game.
Medachod Who can blame them for going for an orchestral approach? They had just only gotten the technology that allowed that approach. Also are we still talking about Megaman x? The PSX and saturn versions are almost identical. [Few graphical differences], at least to my knowledge.
@@elespantapajaros185 It's as though you're saying Mega Man X 1-3 are the only games in the series. It's only funny because it's widely accepted that X4-X8 are considered trash compared to the SNES entries.
Opening stage does to Snes, Zero theme goes to ps1 its sounds like Guiles theme, boss theme goes to ps1, stage select snes, Gravity Beetle well I like both, Viles themes goes to snes
SNES version, by far. It did overuse the guitars, but the PS1 version is just boring and unfitting. I like a few of the songs, but the thing as a whole kinda sucks in my opinion.
Lite 64 I like both versions. many tracks sound better in its original format, but a few tracks benefit from better psx sound. however I don't like the style changes they made to some of the psx tracks
Both are awesome. I'm only picking SNES a little more. I hate the PS1/Saturn/PC version of the Zero theme, title theme, Doppler Stage 3, and the Intro Stage. I love the arrangment of the Blizzard Buffalo theme.
I feel like the PS version of the boss theme is dark, which I love. So outta the whole list in the description, boss theme wins, in my opinion, the PS version.
It's funny some people here say the Snes is no match sound quality wise, and it isn't , however there is the only part where the PS1 version wins, they choose the wrong instruments to remix the ost for the ps1 version, it could have Been awesome, the only good song is the boss battle.
The PS1 wins just by not having that ear grating soundfont the SNES version has. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the guitar on Gravity Beetle's stage (4:53) almost hurts my ears
A versão de PlayStation One errou em colocar muito sintetizador, trompete e outros instrumentos de sopro, deveria ter colocado mais som de guitarra em evidência, daí ficaria perfeito!

Yeah, the main problem with the SNES soundchip is it's sample quality. Sometimes they sound like it came from a bathroom...
Genesis Does What Nintendoes!!! but the SNES sounds so infinitely badass and the ps1 sounds so boring i love the SNES sound chip because it sounds so awesome the limitations made capcom create this amazing music maybe endless possibilitys in terms of music arent that much of a good thing...
magmamaster1801
I completely agree.
They're both good in their own right for different reasons. I just wish the PS1 version, or better yet the Anniversary collection, let you choose between the two. With all the other crap they crammed onto that disk, an extra soundtrack wouldn't have been that big of a stretch.
I bought the Switch version and I was surprised by the music. Makes sense since it was Nintendo.
Zero theme snes
TTTTT
Mega Man is cheesy.
Mega Man X is a little more serious.
Zander Aj
It's okay if nostalgia is affecting your ability to give a blind analysis because it is literally impossible for you to do anyway.
Some people also just like bit crushed distortion, I probably use it way too often on my beats.
The SNES has a better sound chip design than the genesis, somehow it made game music sound good for the first time. The quality sucked but the internal synthesizer was impressive considering the limitations.
me deu uma nostalgia aqui depois de ouvir essas músicas...principalmente as de SNES
Está 10.000 veces mejor la versión del Snes!
las 2 me gustan, pero en la version de psx ciento que perdio la esencia de megaman x
No disrespect but SNES version was way way better it’s makes you want to play the game
PS version smokes SNES because it knows how to actually use more than one instrument.
Megaman x 3 psx sounds like it was meant to be played in a elevator(but other time the music is good)
Just play the PS1 disc on CD player or PS3 and it will sound right.
I was was worried what they might do with zero's theme and the boss music but they're really good on psx.
The Jazz rendition is fine, because during the 90s, Japan was going through a renaissance of Jazz. The Jazz rendition leaves a certain resonance with me and feels more memorable. The SNES one makes it more fuller, which is my preference, but I like both.
PS1 >>>> infinty Abbys >>>> Snes
Si se hubieran inclinado a un estilo mas metal en psx hubiera ganado, pero en snes se lo curraron demasiado.
They're both good.
SuperNintendo version is better, because the PlayStation's sound is like a reinterpretation... However, later in the PlayStation Megaman X games developed the high quality true sound of Techno, Trance and of course Extreme Metal music and that usually we relate with Megaman X series. \m/
5:18 PS1 Gravity Beetle sounds better if you change playback speed to 1.05 😉
is just me or i prefer the zero theme of the playstation version than the snes version?
SNES for me
Snes wins, the soundtrack sounds more like megaman in 16 bit, the soundtrack in ps1 is not according to the game because the sounds are more like megaman in 32 bit as x5 and x6, (sorry for my english)
Well, Mega Man & Street Fighter are both by Capcom so no doubt that they will have similarities & parodies.
Of course, of course. I'm just saying that only the PS version does. The SNES version doesn't give me the same vibe. Just a minor observation.
For me Castlevania Dracula X for the Super Nintendo has the best Bloody Tears.
Zero theme y el ost de la intro me gustan mas como suena en Ps1, pero el Ost de Blizzar Buffalo me gusta mas en SNES.
TTTTT SEGA Saturn version should have been far superior, given it is a system dedicated to 2D games.
Medachod
Yes the Saturn should have trumped all other consoles, it has an extremely impressive sound chip.
Medachod
Who can blame them for going for an orchestral approach? They had just only gotten the technology that allowed that approach.
Also are we still talking about Megaman x? The PSX and saturn versions are almost identical. [Few graphical differences], at least to my knowledge.
I don't like the PS1 Music, yeah it's more cleaner but...this music doesn't feel like the other 2 MegaMan X Stile.
I prefer the 16bit music.
The amount of joy I feel reading, "the other 2 Mega Man Xs" is unreasonable
@@austinfondren2590 Why? Sorry if i have errors, the english doesn't my first language.
@@elespantapajaros185 It's as though you're saying Mega Man X 1-3 are the only games in the series.
It's only funny because it's widely accepted that X4-X8 are considered trash compared to the SNES entries.
SNES all the way!!!
Stage select, Boss, Gravity beetle, and viles sound better on ps1.
Opening stage does to Snes, Zero theme goes to ps1 its sounds like Guiles theme, boss theme goes to ps1, stage select snes, Gravity Beetle well I like both, Viles themes goes to snes
PFFFT!!! Snes is WAAAY better.. id rather listen to Super Nintendo Music then any Band in the entire world lol.. except of Underoath of course ;) :)
Underoath trumps all 👌
might as well put X in a leotard on the ps1 version with that music
SNES version, by far. It did overuse the guitars, but the PS1 version is just boring and unfitting. I like a few of the songs, but the thing as a whole kinda sucks in my opinion.
joão carlos i agree
you're so right
Lite 64 I like both versions. many tracks sound better in its original format, but a few tracks benefit from better psx sound. however I don't like the style changes they made to some of the psx tracks
La de super nintendo se escucha adictiva que la de ps1
Hironico que lo diga un nintendero XD
@@ElMegaX4 xd pero es verdad
Ps1 bem melhor, no SNes é mais pela nostalgia
What a good classic
Snes Wins
Both are great osts it all depends what you really like.
I see pokemon GSC arent the only ones where people compare their's to the remakes
Both are awesome. I'm only picking SNES a little more. I hate the PS1/Saturn/PC version of the Zero theme, title theme, Doppler Stage 3, and the Intro Stage. I love the arrangment of the Blizzard Buffalo theme.
Carlo Nassar
Gravity beatle’s stage sounds better on playstation
@@jonahabenhaim1223
Your opinion. I like both equally.
They destroyed Zero's theme in the PSX version.
i thought Zero's theme was better on the psx
To me it's better honestly.
Yeah, I only really like the Intro Stage theme better in the PSX version.
J.P. Czerniak and the intro theme
Meh they are both pretty crappy compared to his theme in X1 and X2 anyway.
Some songs are better on the SNES like Vile's theme, some are better on the ps1 like the Ending theme with X on the cliff
Snes has that charm to it overall but yeahhh ps1 completely solos
SNES FTW!
I like more the snes soundtrack
Snes version because thats what i grew up with
I think everyone have grew up with the SNES version.
Genesis Does What Nintendoes!!! Not all of us, including me...
Same bro
At least you're being honest.
Idc which wins
Snes and arrange are great
snes is best
I feel like the PS version of the boss theme is dark, which I love. So outta the whole list in the description, boss theme wins, in my opinion, the PS version.
The music in the Psx version is disgusting. Yet I grew up with that version.
PS1 version is better in my opinion. The sound effects are also better.
It's funny some people here say the Snes is no match sound quality wise, and it isn't , however there is the only part where the PS1 version wins, they choose the wrong instruments to remix the ost for the ps1 version, it could have Been awesome, the only good song is the boss battle.
No. They destroyed the boss battle, în rest it's better.
2:10 sério que pegaram a música do Guile de Street Fight
Zero theme on the ps1 sounds like some street fighter stage
Honestly since i only own the psx version soooo i am gonna have to say i like the psx more
the only themes that i think are better in ps1 are the stage select theme and the boss theme.
Snes por ser cartunho ainda faz um trabalho incrível. Palmas para o snes.
Snes is Better
The PS1 wins just by not having that ear grating soundfont the SNES version has. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but the guitar on Gravity Beetle's stage (4:53) almost hurts my ears
A versão de PlayStation One errou em colocar muito sintetizador, trompete e outros instrumentos de sopro, deveria ter colocado mais som de guitarra em evidência, daí ficaria perfeito!
