Loving these videos so far, but I'm a bit confused on the counting. Are you still dancing to 4/4 songs with this? It seems like you can only dance to 3/4 songs right? Otherwise your steps won't match up with the song. Unless I'm not understanding correctly at all lol. Edit: I figured it out! For anyone else wondering the timing for 4/4 songs is: 1, 2, 3, & // 4, 1, 2 & // 3, 4, 1 & // 2, 3, 4, & //
Great point, I can see why that would be confusing! As you figured out if you count the timing in measures than it will shift a bit each time. Sometimes counting &1, 2, 3 over and over is easier to keep track of your steps, but whatever makes sense to you is the best of course :)
Hi, You are correct. In hustle you are dancing to every beat. Its polymetric. The dance has three beats to the meter while the song has four beats. How it should "feel" when you compare it to what's going on in a typical house beat (called "four to the floor") is: And+snare, kick, snare And+kick, snare, kick ... Repeating in that Pattern. When some people teach they count "and 1 2 3 and 4 5 6" so that students understand that you aren't skipping a beat as we might do on salsa (1 2 3, 5 6 7 - never stepping on the 4 and 8 beat). Hope that is clear.
Thanks for explaining that so clear. Is there a difference between the hustle and the latin hustle? I was told way back in the 70's there is a difference. Maybe it is the same dance, just different names? Thanks, Jeanette
Hello! Thanks so much for your video, Im still a bit confused about the syncopated timing, if I were to count and 123 and 456, what happens to the 7 and 8? or if we were to count and 123, and 123, what happens to the 4?
Thank you for your videos and all your efforts posting them . Can you please explain to me why If the beat value is 1/2 1 1 1/2 why i cant count it QSSQ (&123) which matches the beat value . Instead of QQSS which does not match the beat value since the second quick is a whole beat ( S)not a half beat (Q) Thank You Happy Holidays
Hey Jimmy this is a great question, (Chris here) in the video I do say half and then 3 whole beats, but then come back and correct myself to say it's a 1/2, 2 wholes and another 1/2. You can absolutely count it QSSQ and if this were to repeat it would be QSSQQSSQQSSQQSSQQSSQ . The pattern is repeating 2 SS and 2 QQ. When you start the dance however you start on he second Q and get into it from there. The whole Pattern is 3 whole beats in total even though it is danced to 4/4 music which just means you dance &123 &456 &781 &234 which might have just made it more confusing, but if you were counting the music perfectly that would be the answer. ..wow..finally I got it after years of research! Please, will you make a video also, on other kinds of Sync.? Actually, as long as I know, this one in video, is called 'anticipated' sync. and there is also another important one where we basicly step on 'off-beat'so it would sounds: 1AND, 2 AND etc....am I right? Hi thanks for watching and glad we are able to help! In the hustle there are only two kinds of timing with the music in which we discussed in this video: the single time (1,2,3,4) and the syncopated timing (&1,2,3 etc.) I hope this helps :)
