I’m fortunate enough to own a qve45 marked K43 with a Durafol hand guard. I’ve been re-enacting with it for over 20 years now. As time goes by, I get slightly more nervous with each use but it’s been very reliable and robust, I absolutely love it.

I got a k43 that came with 3 great shape original magazines for an extremely good price. I really need to take a close look at it to figure out when it was made so thanks for the information and it really helped me identify my mags. And I don't know about you but I enjoy shooting it more then my svt40.
Do you like the G43 over the M1 Garand? SVT-40s are pretty cheap up here in Canada, but the Garand and obviously the G43 cost a pretty penny. Garands are about $2000+ and last time I saw a G43 on sale was running $4600 a few years back, so probably cost more now.

Most of the G43 price is related to condition. There aren't many numbers to match up, unlike a K98k so they're usually shooters or safe queens. A decent shooter will run at least $2500. A friend was a collector of (mainly) German WW2 rifles and pistols. He was a condition collector and most of what he had was matching minty. He had 13 G/K 43's, with the usual ZF4 scopes. Three of them had mounts and scopes matched to the rifles. That's the rarest stuff. He had other snipers too K98's of various configurations. One of his snipers was a minty No1 Mk 4 Lee-Enfield Canadian rig. Eventually he sold the snipers off and bought a house. I learned a lot about German rifles from him. I have a DUV 44 G43 "d" block that runs fine.
Beautiful rifle. Usually what you need to do in order to shot this without it breaking is 1 install the shooters kit. 2 using ammo that won’t break the such as Romanian steel case
As usual an incredible amount of info. Going back many moons I was ecstatic to find your video on the K98 bolt disassembly (1939 matching #'s). Think you referenced using a hockey puck!. Since then it's been "easy peezy" taking it apart except for that one time I forgot to put it on safe. Panicked figuring I'd have to take it to a gunsmith and look like a dummy but thanks to YT found the "fix". Thanks again for your knowledge and all that you do for the community!

I have the opportunity to purchase a K43 ac45 that is in pretty good condition. However, it has a G41 bolt carrier with the knob on the right side. Would you consider this an issue in such a purchase? Thanks 🤔
I owned 3 g43, a walther ac43, a duv 44 and a gustlofs werke bcd 44 with a small sunburst next to the bolt carrier - receiver serial which indicated a gustloff concentration camp gun. Sold them all like an idiot 16 years ago :(
I got a question that I hope you can help me with. I have a g43 that will not work as in the mag will not keep the bolt open when I fire the last round. Its not a huge issue but I'm curious if you have a fix? Also I tested another k43 mag with the same issue so idk
@@MilsurpWorld i looked at the tab itself and it doesn't look broken, when I use my finger to push it till it stops it works but never with the mag it's an annoying predicament because i can't seem to figure out a fix or a replacement part
How long did it take to receive your FOX reproduction stock? I have a Berlin Lubecker GI bring back that was mildly sporterized, and can't wait to receive mine. I shot it yesterday actually, after being repaired at Apfeltor's earlier this year.

To think that it could made them win the war is an absurd as most of doctrine was centered around mg34 , it was a main firepower or squad.
Yes, these rifles was Germany's attempt in catching up with the M1 Garand. The fact that American allied forces had a semi-auto rifle in the theatre gave them a huge advantage over German forces.
I think the difference in small arms is overstated when most casualties are due to artillery, machine guns, and tactics. And also, no it had nothing to do with the M1, they developed it as a response to the SVT-40 on the eastern front first and foremost. The operating mechanism of the SVT40 and G43 are quasi identical.

The USMC held of for a year (no Garands at Guadalcanal) , The Russians hadn't standardized and I don't think the US, Italy, Japan did so. -It's complex, the German Army had methodically (after much research and testing) determined that what was needed was a semi auto full auto selective fire weapon with an intermediate cartridge. This came out as the MKB42 (Machine-KaraBiner). that became the StG44. -Another group in the German Army wanted a semi automatic like the G.41 or G.43 using a standard round. -Hitler tended to side with that camp as he wanted long range to fight in the desserts and feared ammunition supply problems but he never stopped the StG44 but confined it to trials. -Another 'camp;' wanted a 300m range sub-machine gun and this camp merged with the StG44/MKB44 proponents. Both sides were happy as they Machine Karbine "Assault Rifle" went ahead as a long range sub-machine gun. This was important as the Germany Army Ordinance wanted to replace no only the K98 bolt action rifle but the MG42 in a squad. Hitler authorized the MP43 (ie StG44) as a replacement for the 9mm MP40 sub-machine gun. This meant it was only authorized to replace the MP40 the NCO of a German squad had access to.

Change the recoil springs ever 500 rds and it will probably be fine.

I get the g41 had reliability issues, but wasn't that fixed with the g43? The reason for the g43 not replacing the kar98k was because of expense

The mag itself doesn't hold it open, the follower pushes a detent up which holds the bolt back. Sounds like the hold-open might be missing or broken.
