It's Mid-June 2023 and I have just watched this (now) 2 year old video. I have enjoyed very many videos of yours and am subscribed.
In my opinion, this is one of your best and most informative offerings to date. We have completely opposite taste in visual appeal and organized precision, yet, I greatly appreciate your explanations of hydrodynamic and chemical reactions. The information you present is clear and precise and allows me (a non-traditional, non-directional thinker) to delve further into my "what if" travels with a better feel for potential results. It is probably difficult to believe, but, you are as good as your excellent reviews.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment. I definitely don't learn by "feel" like a lot of people so I have to break things down in the logical analytical steps so I can remember and iterate on those steps.

Thank you so much for bringing some science to pour painting! I have been doing this for 3 years, after watching mostly videos by a wealthy Australian lady who uses giant cups of artist-quality paints, which I can't afford. Her paintings are gorgeous, but not very helpful, because I don't think she really understands the physics and chemistry behind the process. After watching you, my paintings have improved considerably, because you not only show "how", but you also explain "why".

When I was studying art (back in the dark ages) I was constantly frustrated by my attempts to pour, spatter, throw, etc. paint. Recently enamored by the new poured art works I have been trying to wade thru the ocean of information on the internet and have been elven more frustrated by the myriad of advice on techniques, products, etc. You give great information, use simple and easy to find and prepare products. Thanks for keeping it simple!!

When I do a flipcup, I usually put a small hole in the bottom of the cup. Use a needle/tack.
This will allow the heavier paints to settle at the bottom (and th lighter paint to rise).
If you use something to catch the last drips it will give a cleaner result (for people who don't want a ribbon or weird blob at the end)
Big thanks for another informative video!!!
P.S. If you don't want to waste the cup, use some sticky tape to cover the hole.

@@LeftBrainedArtist the first third is the back portion and easily accessible to a wooden stirrer. The 2 nd third is a little larger and doubly accessible...but the small leftover third has that nubbin that holds a pea sized amount that you can never get to if you’re doing halfies and that amount can easily be used to accent one more painting. Gotta get what you paid for when you can! ❤️🌷

I really love the balloon smash one. They always make me think of jellyfish, and the ribbons added to that! I'm not sure if it would be something others would be interested in, but I'd love a video that teaches how to mix colors to get a color you are looking for (not them mixing on the canvas, but mixing them pre-pour to get the color you're looking for). I get the basics, but sometimes I just can't even get close to the color I'm wanting. I have no idea what color(s) I'm missing to make it look how I want, and sometimes I waste tons of paint trying to figure it out. Is there some tried and true method to making colors? When I do it it I'm reminded of when my dad tried to teach me to cook things when I was younger, and he would tell me to "add a pinch" of something. This would lead to me arguing that his pinch and my pinch are different sizes....so why couldn't he just give me an exact measurement? He would try to explain cooking is an art. *sighs* My brain just wants exact measurements. LOL! In the same sense, I would love a more left-brained approach to mixing colors to make new ones (if there is a left-brained approach to this). Also in making new colors, do I need to worry about whether a paint is transparent/semi/opaque? Thank you for always explaining things so well, and in a way that makes so much more sense to those of us that are also left-brained artists!!!!

This is definitely on my content calendar. You might try checking out Chris Breier on UA-cam - ua-cam.com/channels/8AeKPOzP2m5p5-rudvsNGg.html - and Ticktok. He has some great color mixing videos for traditional acrylic artist's which I think have been very helpful.
I agree on the "pinch" thing. I always wanted to know 1/4 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1 tbsp, etc.

They are both cool but my favorite is the balloon dip. I enjoy watching you mix paint. Very relaxing. Of all the many artists online I have 2 favorites that I subscribe to and watch regularly. You and Fiona of FionaArt from Slovenija. You are precise about measuring and she doesn't measure at all. I learn a lot from both of you. I also love the comparisons that you do. Thank you.

I don't like using latex paint (walls/house paint) for regular pours. Only for special cases like Sheleeart blooms or the types of pours that Sarah Taylor does. I was thinking more acrylic paint. Lots of my family members had random stuff in their house they donated or I purchased for cheap.

Thank you SO much! You not only explained the approach of the flip cup perfectly, but thanks to you I have finally understood how to get these big beautiful cells - I have only ever managed to get a few tiny ones, and never thought about varying the colour thickness - in retrospect, using thin paint here is logical, to make the silicone oil rise more easily, but I had learned pouring needed a certain (thicker) consistency from videos about an entirely different technique and never thought to stray from that recipe for other methods :D Your technique works wonderfully, I tried it out today and am super happy with the results :)

And that’s another thing…when you mix your glue with water, how do you measure that? I’m interested in the process, for instance do you make a gallon at a time? That would be 3 quarts glue to 1 quart water? I’m a liberal arts major and never got around to taking any chemistry classes-this is so fun! Thanks for your help!
