Someone in this audience at a concert earlier yelled for Neil Young or a Neil Young song. Paul said "Well doesn't everything I do kinda sound like Neil Young? Just close your eyes and pretend I'm older." Then he later sang Alex Chilton, replacing several parts with Neil Young references, like "I'm in love, with Neil Young" etc. lol. Both geniuses Like Dylan and Graham Parker (who?).
@@drewkatchen805 Only very sensitive people know that. It's more the music than the lyrics, I think. Paul could have easily made it into a happy ending and had a hit but he is true to himself.
i saw him on his mono/stereo tour in 2002. he played this (probably my favorite PW song) and told us it was the only song he's written that made him cry. good god. so amazing.
A great, beautiful haunting song that showcases Paul's extraordinary lyrics, melody, and vocals that tear your heart out while spitting on your grave with snot that cakes against your pants and turns to crystal.
Things I want to tell you How you make me feel How you look to me And how good it feels Things I don`t want to tell you Every little thing`s all right What I was before And where I was last night Always things All these things Always things Things I try to tell you but come out oh so wrong Seem to feel pretty good, seem to last pretty long Things I don`t want to tell you Now there ain't no doubt You lit a fire in me Can`t seem to put out Always things All these things Things I long to tell you but I don`t know how Things I don`t want to tell you but I have to now Packed my things Things I`m bound to tell you like that dress looks great on ya I could use some breathing room but I`m still in love with you Things I`d never tell you, down the line someday You`ll be a song I sing, a thing I give away Pack my things today, I packed my things today
Such a great understated and under appreciated song and artist. If not for the grunge explosion during time, this song would have been played into the stratosphere. Which maybe…is a good thing. Still a rare gem.
things that i'm bound to tell you, like "that dress looks great on you, I could use some breathing room but I'm still in love with you" reminds me of a woman from my own past and it always related perfectly, as if Paul wrote that for me so that I could say it to her. damn....that is some excellent songwriting.
Now you are a fan. Many of those old Replacements songs had(and still have) the same effect on me... This is an excellent song, painful and perhaps a little too real.
Great album obviously... funny mix of musicians: guitar player with the Manchester retro look, bass player rocking the punk-a-billy Social Distortion look, drummer using the Ringo technique and shaven clean along with Paul simply being Paul.
Well said, 11zxzxz. I had tickets to see the 'mats back in the day. They canceled the tour, though. If I remember correctly, the official reason is that Paul had trouble with his throat. Never saw them. Sigh.
Great songwriter!!!
one of the best song writers ever

The G.o.a.t. Thank God not everyone knew them or him. Wouldn't have been the same.
I love this one, makes me cry every time...
Truly a fantastic songwriter and performer. This one really tugs at the heartstrings!
This song weeps... Oh the tears
It is one of the saddest songs I know

You lucky son of a bitch
None of the songs he wrote for the Replacements made him cry? Damn, hard to believe.
@@t-man5196 hahah yeah
I saw him at the old Guthrie theater 2 nights in a row.
"Things I'd never tell you
Down the line someday
You'll be a song I sing
A thing I give away
Pack my things today" - Thank you Paul
sadly beautiful.
He sure has a way with words. Great Song.
Yeah but funny he messed the lyrics up… you can see him smile about it - but of course I love it more.
song makes me teary eyed everytime

Things I want to tell you
How you make me feel
How you look to me
And how good it feels
Things I don`t want to tell you
Every little thing`s all right
What I was before
And where I was last night
Always things
All these things
Always things
Things I try to tell you but come out oh so wrong
Seem to feel pretty good, seem to last pretty long
Things I don`t want to tell you
Now there ain't no doubt
You lit a fire in me
Can`t seem to put out
Always things
All these things
Things I long to tell you but I don`t know how
Things I don`t want to tell you but I have to now
Packed my things
Things I`m bound to tell you like that dress looks great on ya
I could use some breathing room but I`m still in love with you
Things I`d never tell you, down the line someday
You`ll be a song I sing, a thing I give away
Pack my things today, I packed my things today

David Minehan is so underrated. What a perfect compliment to Westerberg on guitar.
Fantastic. Thank you.

Amazing still.
