      I am pretty sure that the F-22 line uses a JFS system (not to be confused with the APU).

      Would you nee kind enough to explain what jfs is?

    • @Dinnye01
      @Dinnye01 3 роки тому +6

      @@broadbin You can imagine the JFS as a small turbine engine that is started by a carteidge (something analogous to a CO2 cartridge) - note, that this is a WILD oversimplification. It has a few charges, then needs to recharge, but it is lighter than an APU. It also only can be used to start the engine. The APU in turn is a small jet engine that is started by a battery and can provide electric power to the aircraft as long as there is fuel.

      JFS in F-16 is used to start engine. The "small emergency jet" is actually EPU (not to confuse with APU, F-16 has no APU). EPU provides electrical power in emergencies. It can run on hydrazine, but it can also run on bleed air from engine.

    • @rsoul7282
      @rsoul7282 6 років тому +3

      Nigel Milne the only way your flying dorito was able to do that was by flying hard on the deck at high speed, and as soon as aircraft were fitted with look down shoot down targeting systems a la F15, this ceased to be a viable tactic, let alone the increased stress on the airframe and reduction in service life that this method of flying entailed. Yes, the Vulcan was a vaunted machine back in the day when nuclear weapons were intended to be air delivered, but for me modern aircraft are more impressive. If this is not the case for you, it is entirely subjective.
