    There's a strong Tchaikovsky influence in this symphony, particularly at 36:00.

      Probably not surprising because Finland was part of the Grand Duchy of Russia at the time

    The beautiful melody in the finale starting at 30:35 seems to be strongly related to the piano piece Op. 24/9.

      Sibelius' melodies are interesting in the way that they all have something in common with some other melody by him. There's for example a very similar melody to Finlandia's main melody in his earlier pieces. Also in his early works (and some later as well) many of his melodies start with same note repeated and then with other notes. For example in this symphony's second movement's beginning or the melody in the second movement of Kullervo and so many others.
