Molybdenum does NOT dissolve metal. Moly is a friction modifier additive, that you can find in any high end oil. It’s also sold either as a standalone additive, or as part of an additive pack in products sold as friction modifiers. Under a microscope moly would look like thousands of tiny horizontal plates that slide on each other, it’s great for horizontal loads, where that sliding action is what gives it great lubricity. It can’t take a lot of compressive load however as the plates would just slide out of the way of the load (think crankshaft inside the bearing race, it would squeeze the moly right out. That’s why you can’t run straight moly in an engine, it needs to be part of a larger package where the other additives and oil can take the hydrostatic load and not get squeezed out completely. With the correct additive package in oil, same example (crankshaft inside bearing race) the crankshaft is actually suspended above the bearing with a film of oil that is constantly being pumped in and squeezed out, creating a barrier between crank and bearing. The oil and other additives resist hydrostatic load and keep it suspended, additives like moly provide a lot of the lubricity, and increase friction efficiency, and lowering heat.

The grind could be from the clutch slave. I had a 15 accord 6 speed. Did the same thing the slave had a fluid delay. To try to prevent you from premature clutch wear. U were able to put a slave from an ek.

My previous car was having similar issue but it was a CVT which made it even worst for me to fix it. So I traded in the car to the dealer for my new one.
Thank you for the positive vibes
I swear most honda’s have that second gear grind problem, i’ve had that since the start but you learn how to avoid it and control it sometimes 😭
I noticed it in both of my 9th Gens as well
@@Camhill182 I SPOKE TO A GUY & HE SAID A REMEDY FOR 2ND GEAR GRIND IS THE MOTOR MOUNTS. HE PURCHASED "HASPORT" MOTOR MOUNTS & THE GRIND WENT AWAY! Sorry for caps, want people to see this! Btw, don't quote me but he has a 2018 Type R & that's just what he told me about it. I'd go into forums & ask honestly. I'm just the messenger, don't shoot me.
Rear motor mount and better wheels and tires have almost eliminated this for me.
@@washmyburn thanks for the imput. Cameron would def appreciate us when he reads this. Also, do you have any expierence with 9th gen Si? Looking for a 13' or 15' but I heard they have a 1st gear grind problem. Some say throwout bearing is the fix? Thanks in advance if you know about it.
@@washmyburn which wheels?
Finally some drive time out in Lincoln, those are my go to roads. I have an NC Miata, but thinking about getting a type r too.
CamHSquad
Are you gonna eventually run an E-Blend?
Also take care of that Alcantera steering wheel. My Z06 is fading on the shift knob and steering wheel.
Lmao your face when you went from first to second was priceless 🤣. But I've experienced the first to second gear grind maybe 3 times in the year I've owned it. But I think its me being lazy with the pushing In the clutch and releasing the stick before its fully in
5th gear is not inside the trans on the mustang...just fyi. its a simple replacement that you can do at home. sweet ctr btw
I just picked up my 2020 accord 2.0t a couple days after you got the R, just hit 13000kms lol
I dont think its a 2nd gear grind, it looks like your tried to put it into gear before you engaged the clutch all the way,I have a type R too and the timing is key with the shifts, but hey it happens we are human and we can’t always be perfect, your videos are always entertaining! congrats!
No it’s a grind. Very common in all Honda manuals. My Type S manual had it. 1st to 2nd under load only grind
@@adriangamboa1869 my S2k does it sometimes under full throttle pulls from first to second lol
@@adriangamboa1869 common for common folks lol jk, I never had that problem
The second gear grind only. Happens when you shift like that that’s why I always double clutch
Cam: Fortunately for some reason, I have not experienced that issue.
Civic: And I took that personally
I absolutely love the red calipers with the black alloy wheels ❤️
The 10th gen platform CTR/Si is the best handling civic platform from my experience.
I got a 2021 sgp ctr for msrp about 2 weeks ago in Cary NC.
Cold world man. Hopefully it’s fixed soon!
is it worth it to change the stock intercooler without a remap? is there any difference in performance in hot days?
yes, absolutely. I highly recommend it!
I was fortunate enough to get mine without the markup. One of my buddies works in sales at a honda here in socal.
You are right about the price of cars in the last few months they have gone through the roof
The grind could be from the clutch slave. I had a 15 accord 6 speed. Did the same thing the slave had a fluid delay. To try to prevent you from premature clutch wear. U were able to put a slave from an ek.
Thought about a short shifter for the R?
So it has 2 stage vtec, I feel it at like 3,500 rpm and can’t tell through boost. But I only feel it or hear it when the engine is under light load. It’s weird
Can can you do a video on the differences between all the years? Trying to figure out what year to go for? My guy tells me stay away from the first 2 years. Thanks 🙏
in 2019 they got slightly tougher rods from the accord 2.0t. The accord rods have slightly stronger rockwell hardness to them, so the 2019+ Type R is the one to get
Happens on my 13 civic si too, it’s a clutch delay valve you can get rid of and it won’t do it anymore
I know this community is awesome so I was wondering if any of you guys know if you can fix a blow off valve or if I should just buy a knew one.
That happened a couple times in my 17 si coupe!!!
7:40 what kind of flavor juice is that?
2nd gear only grinds when medium shifting, short shifting no problem, redlining, no problem, shift out of first around 5000 rpm and you better take your time moving that lever.
It only grinds if you cant shift.
@@alphatrion100 Thanks for the advice!
Let’s go baybeee 🔥
I am still waiting for my Type R, Honda emailed me that my car is in Georgia waiting on a “Car transport train car” to ship it to Houston. You can’t make this up, I already waited a month now they added two weeks.
I hope you get it soon. I hate waiting
@@Camhill182 hi dude i want just ask u about toyota yaris GR yeah i am in love with civic type R but honda didn t realize an advance last years what u advice me in this subject ? i like ur videos keep ur nice work u re the best
Another drop 🔥
In CA, what's going to be the story for the tunes once they start checking for those?
I wont be here by then, so ill never know
You jinxed yourself.
I did
You have to change out the thing that goes to the transmission for the clutch and there's a switch in the gas pedal in the clutch it has like a delay in it so you won't like mess up shifting gears best way to put it and I'm right here in Gastonia North Carolina we met before long time ago back whenever you had the baged Civic I mean
good vid as usual man, just noticed during the first few mins of the ep that you were on a housing place/ subdivision, is this a hint of the dream house finally happening?
I wouldnt say dream house, but we found some potential homes we’re looking at with a realtor this week
29mpg? When do you shift to get this eco? First manual for me. I've been shifting at 3500-4000. I've been getting about 23-26mpg
Shift lower, for any civic i imagine under 3000 should be fine unless you’re merging on the highway. Get a feel how low your car will let you shift; it can range anywhere from 2500-4000 depending the car.
@@jimmypena2442 thank you for the reply. I'll try it out :)
I average about 20-22.. cant help but push it 😂
@@upbeforethaopps haha yeah I was having that problem too 😜
Literally hit like immediately after the 2nd gear grind, before you said hit like. 🙃
What AC whistle
Regardless I don’t use my AC always lower my windows but I’m concern too
That might have a missed shift and not a grind but I grinded 2nd many times due to driver error lol
What is the aftermarket head unit you have
My Si grinds gears some too but I’m not sure if I’m not pulling the gear fully before my foot is off the clutch
Cameron can you review the Honda sensing lane keeping assist adaptive cruise in the 2021 type r?
Does it take a freeway corners hands free like it’s predecessors, 2019 Honda Civic hatchback, Touring with Honda sensing.
Maybe discuss the brake hold assist feature.
Dude was going to get one of these while my 392 is in the shop but the second gear issue is remising of one I had on the 2008 with 197 HP was fast as heck but had two trannys in it after shit fork broke issue with those they go cheep on it.
With the new laws won't you have to reverse all mods?
“I swear this is the first time this has happened to me.” “It’s alright, just get me a cheeseburger.”
I had the same grind in my brand new S2000 back in 2001. Honda!
when are you getting the bonneville ssei ;)
NOW you're talking! this is the type of comment that will lift my spirits. I will buy a bonneville ssei as a daily driver as soon as I can find a clean one for sale within a 500 mile radius! i've been looking constantly
Bro are you driving it around Napa ? 😂 those roads look like the ones going to Lake Berryessa
Thinking about getting this or the 10th gen si.. idk which
what happens if it rains on those houses with wood
Ive always wondered that
Great job you change the transmission oil it will be good if you do the engine oil change do that also with the miles
that "grind" is your clutch needing adjusted.
Waiting for 11th gen type R to decide if I’ll upgrade from si. Really hoping the type R looks better than the base model 11 gen that we’ve seen so far
After looking at the 11th gen sedan, I pulled the trigger on the 10th gen CTR. The new front end is so ugly.
@@nicolathonathan770 same man. I think the 2021 CTR will be remembered as the best ever
I have a 2018 civic sport and I have experienced the grind but it really only happens when going to third or if I'm stopped with my clutch in and going through gears it will only go halfway into a lot of gears
