I've been rlly confused for a while now why everything online makes it seem like the magic mirror is the best thing ever when recall potions do the exact same thing... I'm genuinely confused
@@ChipiiiiiRecall potions are actually superior, as the time it takes for them to teleport you is 3 times less than the mirror, which can save you from many situations. The mirror is practical in that it doesn't use potions, and can be crafted into the cell phone(and then shell phone, which grants multiple recall destinations)
Most of the time when I need to teleport home it's because I'm done with mining because I've got enough stuff and need to get home quick instead of being in a bad situation, fortunately, the former is more likely hence why I use the mirror over recall potions, who I just sell to npcs for money

trying to find those hallowed bars but you teleport yourself like 10 blocks away and have to walk back there where you again missclick and teleport again where at this point you switch to your weapon to not teleport accidentally again

Huh, I always imagined that the mirror worked by having you gaze into it (You would see your reflection but in the different location), you would then see your reflection swapping places with you as the new location materialises around you.
I've always imagined something similar, but you don't actually see your reflection and it acts more like a window back to where you last woke up. Similar to that one room in Antichamber where you look through an ornate window then back up and boom, now you are in that colored room. (So from Green to Red, then Red to Pink or whatever) Or maybe you somehow crawl through the mirror and pick up the other side of the mirror that is now laying at your feet, I dunno.
In all seriousness, I cannot imagine how much I become stressed when I accidentally pressed my Magic Mirror while exploring and mining, and then having to go back to the cavern layer all over again.
I love how you can hear the magic mirror being used before the Doctor Strange clip starts, like the player's very soul is screaming in realization at what they just did.

@@Ventorath I have a logitech mouse with the funny scrollwheel that spins almost indefinately and even I can handle large hotbars with it. if the wheel is impricise, sounds like a hardware issue ngl
the trick to not accidentally use the magic mirror is to not place it as the last in the hotbar, but one to the left of the last. that way, if you are using your primary weapon (slot 1) and accidentally go one to the left (i.e. to the right most item), you dont magic mirror home.
@@tanko.reactions176 why? It's just as easy, makes it impossible to mess up and frees up space in the hit at for stuff that's actually used regularly (seriously, you probably don't use the magic mirror more than once every ten minutes, it doesn't need to be in the hotbar)

Happened to me during the Slime King fight with a friend, recall potion, really showed me why you should never have sensible stuff in the hotbar, also bombs.
@@Rayan-West i don’t fish for potions even in vanilla, i rarely go for potions in vanilla actually, only recall potions because they are faster than mirrors
bombs and magic mirror both get banished to the lower layers of the inventory, bombs less so though since it's better to use them in the hotbar when you do need them so they only go one down
as someone who experiences this one in a run, i can confirm that this is what it feels like after putting it in the hotbar extremely close to the main items
This only happened to me once while I was running to the dungeon a while back and that slight little inconvenience somehow ticked me off so much that I've developed this habit where I always put my magic mirror on the bottom right of my inventory
I've kept my MM in my hotbar for the 10 years I've played this game and come to understand that accidentally tping back to spawn is just a feature of the experience
entirely your fault for leaving it in your hotbar rather than an inventory slot. even back when i first got the game i knew putting it in a hotbar slot would be dumb lol

I don't worry too much about that though, not because I'm good at the game but purely because in my opinion when you see an enemy your first instinct should always be to switch to your weapon(s), not your magic mirror. That might also be because I only ever play on Softcore mode so the only things I would be losing when I die would be my coins which I always make sure to deposit between each exploration cycle anyway, so you'd probably only ever see me put my Magic Mirror in my hotbar if I was playing with Mediumcore or Hardcore characters (which I don't)

As an Xbox player, I just enable the Plus-Pad/D-pad [(+)] quick select, and keep stuff like teleports in my inventory instead of my hot-bar.

personally i think it just puts a portal right below you or in the direction your moving so no matter what you just get forced into it

Yes. I do it so if you are about to die you dont have to waste your time openning inventory and using it with your mouse.
