@specialk3357 probably many reasons for that...id say he could be 'irrelevant ' (keep in mind this track is old) and maybe he doesn't make music any more? Many reasons really.
He's got a voice as distinctive as Keith.Whitley should be a big star. Went to a music festival he was at two years ago and there were many "big names" but for me he was the show!!!

This was the first song I heard getting in the car with the father of my child. Back then we never thought we would fall in love and get pregnant 2 months later. God, that was almost 17 years ago. And he’s been gone since 2017. And I’ll always remember that night getting in his car and being young and in love. Love you Steven, thank you for being the father of our now 16 year old daughter. I agree, sadly country radio kills a lot of amazing music to play stupid crap (jason aldean, chase rice, Thomas rhett). I don't get how a song such as Gary's Kiss Me When I'm Down only peaked at #38. it's a shame. and what about George Strait's I Believe, Dierks Bentley's Bourbon in Kentucky and Brad Paisley's I Can't Change the World? All of these great songs were ignored! I wish country radio would support great artists such as Gary to find their popularity and get some recognition, it's sad to see them so underrated

'Til this 'bro country' craze came along a few years back, and it kinda killed the raw passion and intimacy of country music such as this one... Thanks for posers like Florida - Georgia Line and Jason Aldean. Aldean actually has a few decent tracks but those you hardly hear on the FM radio anymore, if at all. Gary beats both of em though by a mile

In 2003 I met a guy. He seemed all right. Super cute and very nice but I was totally burned out on men after a nasty divorce. I turned down all his requests for a date. But then one day he asked me if I'd like to just go for a drive in his truck. Hesitant, I said, "Sure, ok." Well, I hopped up in that truck and away we went down a country road. He popped in a CD and played this song. I've been with him every since. It's been 13 years together, and 5 years married! Thank you, Gary, for bringing a great man into my life!

There's always that one guy/girl you can't seem to get over. No matter how bad they treated you or how long it's been or who else has come into your life, they're always there, this song captures that perfectly. When I hear our song come on the radio or go somewhere we used to hang out a lot, all the memories come rushing back, it's a bitter sweet feeling you just can't get rid of.
Absolutely could not have said that any better. I'm going through all that now. I'm from a small town and me and her would tear up the dirt roads and water towers at night. Now she's moved on a started a family. I can help but wonder on those ole roads to songs like this. It bring everything back a vivid as the day it happened. The day she walked away it wasn't much later I heard it ain't the whiskey. So many of his songs hit home.
