    I'll be 50 in less than a month and I'm building my first marionette. Your videos have been a big help. I always do stuff my own way but your videos inspire me. I've always thought marionettes and puppets in general were magical and I've recently become interested in doing it myself. I hope you are still making videos and teaching the world your craft because I'm going to be visiting your channel a lot.

      That is so amazing to hear!!! Thanks so much. I worry about the disappearance of the marionette puppetry art form because it is so hard to find out how to do it. I think it's important that you are choosing to learn this craft. Happy building and performing. If possible please post, I'd love to see your work.

      Thanks for watching! My goal is to add more marionette how-to videos to UA-cam. The art form of marionette puppetry is in danger of disappearing unless more puppeteers are given the opportunity and knowledge to try it.

    You had two controlers, it looked like you had them tied together.
    How much space died you have between each "airplane" contoller and what did you use to connect them.

    • @puppetsbyarlee
      @puppetsbyarlee  3 роки тому +1

      30 - 200 lbs depending on the brand. The kind I recommend in the description I like to get 30-50 lb. I like a thicker string that will be less likely to get caught in string traps.

      It will be different for every shape of puppet head. Experiment by holding the puppet with your fingers on either side until you find a balance point where the eye are focused. Then, put your screw eyes there. Good luck!

    • @puppetsbyarlee

      It can be used for a toggle of a single long running string that you can use for elbows.

    I have added the strings to the puppet but he will not look side to side or down. What am I doing wrong. Can you do a video on why strings may not be working right. I can not find a video on that anywhere. Even looking else where nothing to be found on different issues with control other than tangled strings. Can you please help me out?

    • @puppetsbyarlee
      @puppetsbyarlee  2 роки тому

      If your screw eyes on the side of the head are too high or too low from the center hemisphere of the head, it may make it so that the head is not responding. Also, be sure you are depressing the shoulder strings to have the puppet look downwards in order for the side to side head movement to be possible. In addition see my video "How to Puppeteer a Marionette: standing and eye focus."

      I found the problem, the hair of my puppet was keeping the head from looking down. I was so up set to find I had to change the hair style. He had a warrior hair style, now it just a man bun. I want to thank you for all the help with making my puppet. I still have alot of work to do on him. Also I need lots of practice moving him. He walks like a drunk Bambi. Lol

    Dear wonderful Arlee -- I'm leaning on your videos big time in the construction of a marionette right now, and wondering how you add the eyelet to the "butt plate" -- I've used your pelvis tutorial, and I'm a little stumped as to how to screw the eyelet in without messing up the crotch piece, if that makes sense. Any suggestions? I ADORE your videos, thank you so much for making them! Nell

      Use a drill and make a hole first. Then, dip the screw eye in wood glue and screw it in. Let it dry overnight.

    • @puppetsbyarlee

      Braided deep sea fishing line in black works best. There are several companies that make it. There is link for Hercules fishing line in the description, which is what I like to use. Buy 30 - 70 pound line. Honestly any string can work, choose something that is strong enough to support the weight of your puppet while being thin enough that it's hard to see from the audience.
