Though some VCRs of this type had strange errors that were hard to resolve, this error came from worn out rubber parts.

We had one of these. Never failed... Our neighbours had a corded remote control VCR. Oh how we laughed 🤣

My VS-5 behaves exactly the same. Annoying...
