1974 MG Parked 30 Years WILL IT START with No Key and $37?

  • Our goal with this 1974 MGB was to make it run without spending any money, but we didn't quite meet that goal. We have no key for the car, making it difficult, but I figured out how to hot wire the car. I tinkered with the carburetors, replaced the points, rotor button and spark plugs, so I spent $37 on the cheapest junk Rockauto sells. We spent three evenings on the car, between the clean up and the mechanical work.
    We got to a stopping point before this thing started costing me money. The hydraulic clutch would not move any fluid, even after bleeding, and we had a similar situation with the brakes. No fluid movement. Parts are available for these cars, but the bill was going to be about $300 for the necessary parts to make it drive. Not happening on this project. Ultimately, the ol' car cleaned up nice and we had fun fooling with it. Time to move onto the next project.

    From $6K to $73K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.

      Experted Ann Marie strunk was my hope during the 'bear summer' last year. I did so many mistakes but also learned so much from it, and of course from Maria strunk.

      Just sold a property in Alaska and I'm thinking to put the cash in stocks, I know everyone is saying it's ripe but Is this a time to buy stocks? How long until a full recovery? How are other people in the same market raking in over $450k gains within months, I'm really just confused at this point.

      The fact that I got to learn and earn from her program is everything to me think about it, it's a win-win for both ways.

    The first thing I would do is get rid of the front bumper guards.. These are known as "SABRINAS".. No MGB owner I know would have them on their car.
    Next I would turn the front parking/directional lights around. They are installed backwards.
    Drain the fuel tank. I would remove it and clean it.
    Good luck !

    Steve from This Week with Cars restores these things in his sleep. He has five, which he has made run and drive and he gets all his parts from Moss Motors.

    Didn't look like you were using the choke. Just reach over under the hood and pull it up. You can remove the steering wheel cowling and there are 2 antt-theft bolts which you can put a screw driver slot in (with a dremel) to back out the screws. The ignition mechanism can then be removed from the column and you will be able to steer it. The clutch system is a known bugger to bleed. Search the internet for how-to's. Nice looking B.

    I see that the Carb Slides are bouncing quickly. Those carbs need to be filled with oil to make those slides work smoothly. Did you oil them?

  • @cloudjungle

    These cars are really bad to overheat. You need to make sure you have coolant and make sure you have proper oil pressure. A new fuel pump will also help.

    • @jeffhildreth9244
      @jeffhildreth9244 2 місяці тому

      Nonsense on the over heat except when there is no coolant.
      The original fuel pump is in the right rear of the car. What is there is the wrong fuel pump and should not be there.
