The Doors wouldn't have been the Doors without all four of them. Can you imagine Jim without John's percussion, or Ray's amazing keyboards? But most of all I love Robbie's amazing guitar!!! What an amazing guy!!!
Great, under-rated songwriter & guitarist. True, he seems like an incredibly humble person for someone who wrote some of the greatest songs of all time. Jim was the voice & persona, but Robbie was to me, the musical engine that really propelled the Doors train.
All great musicians. Ray Manzarek re-connected with Jim Morrison on the beach at Santa Monica in 1965, and the Doors just 2 years later would have the no. 1 song on the radio in 1967.
I like the fact that interview is about Robbie and The Doors. All the questions are enlightening and new. It is not about all the other questions you see on internet about Jim Morrison. It is all about legacy. Thank you for such a nice interview.
I just read his book and have seen most of his interviews. This was outstanding and Robby is so down to earth. I like John also, Ray is a little hard to take but he was a genius on the keyboard along with John’s drumming and Robby’s guitar. They complement each other so well.
Carlos G yet had zero success with songs after jim died. Robbie wrote some good songs with rhe Doors, bur Jim was the main contributor and the soul of the band.
Robby was a part time writer. Jim was getting pressed to write all of the songs. The first 2 albums Jim wrote all but one (Light my fire) Robbie wrote Love her madly, and The river knows, his biggest contribution was on a soft parade. But Jim had 2 notebooks full of songs (Poems) before they even started. Soul Kitchen, Indian summer, The end Crystal ship, almost the whole first and part of the 2nd album he wrote, sleeping on a roof and taking acid.
They had great chemistry together being front of stage & always respected each other's talents in composing & lyrics & even sported similar beards later in their careers.
Thank you, Anne-Marie and Robbie for the interview. Very enlightening. Met Robbie at the Belly Up. He played with Eric Burdon of the Animals. Great gig. They played Doors and Animals songs. I recorded it.
Ray, Robbie, and John loved Jim sooo much that it is evident in their presence all these yrs later. Jim was death bound, but if he would have realized how much his mates loved him, he mighta eased of the bottle a bit. Living with the sadness of no more magic music with Jim, has been difficult (with the exception of An american Prayer lp).
@wildcatter63 Every time that Robby talks about Jim's death in interviews, he looks very sad. He looks the saddest of the three. I think that he really suffered quietly during many years. I've seen two pictures from different times in which Ray, Robby and John pose with a photo of Jim. In the two pictures, who is holding the photo is Robby.
@wildcatter63 Robby also said in interviews that Jim had not said to them a goodbye, and that he thought that not having the opportunity to go to Jim's funeral was something weird. I believe that these quotes reveal his pain.
You're looking at and listening to one of the greatest guitar players in modern music history! Robby Krieger is extremely talented and unique in his playing style and sound. He can be copied but never duplicated! He's very versatile in his playing. You will hear these styles in playing, blues, rock and roll, psychedelia, hard rock, flamenco, classical, funk, soul, and fusion jazz. Not to mention that he's also a genius songwriter. Robby Krieger is still jamming live and in the studio taking his art to the next level in the present day. His albums today are mature and eclectic. I highly recommend them! May God bless my friend and musical hero, Robby Krieger.
I wish today people had half of what this band had. I was born in 73, and am one of the most prolific fans, seen all video, heard all audio. This band vividly took me back to those days and I know in my head I was born for that time. But man, Robbie Krieger man listen to this and his other interviews, he's so fucking real. Don't lie, not about money, and till this day when you think how they hammered out epic album after album, at the rate more than one a year. Most bands can't even keep their members after 4 years. Robbie Krieger just is so humble, so honestly all the members just loved the dude despite all his issues. I could, and would listen to every interview of all these guys.
2022 Listening to his book on Audible. Great to see this interview and his perspective a good number of years back. The sofa casual talk, rich in content. Thank you.
Yup, same reaction for me. I was 18/19 when I first heard The Doors and it was as if my life had been leading up to that experience. It was *exactly* what I wanted to hear.
Nice interview, Ann-Marie. Robbie is a fun guy to meet, and he seemed to really enjoy your interview. I had the pleasure of chatting with him at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, CA. back in the 90s when he played with Eric Burden of the Animals. Jim Morrison was a cousin of my friend, Rob Fritzenkotter, in San Diego where Jim's parents lived. Jim's dad was an admiral in the Navy. Robbie and John Densmore went to University High School in West Los Angeles, about a block from where I lived while going to UCLA. Ray Manzerek and Jim met at UCLA film school. Robbie took some classes at UCLA, too. Small world. Thanks again for the classy interview.
I enjoyed your conversation with Robbie and I noticed you got your Doors chops cut out for you how quickly you remembered a reference to keep the flow, I kinda dig you!! I will always be a word man...better than a birdman..trapped by a freak in some cage! Thanks!
I'll never forget that summer of 67 and The Doors "Light My Fire" being on the radio and of course running out to get the album with the long version... Of course Robby wrote it other than one verse... Still one of my all time favorite songs... Fantastic .. Loved all the albums but the first still my favorite..! Robby here the perfect guitar player for the Doors, terrific player...
"THE DOORS" are a great example of how a good rock band gets things done and not waste a lot of time, there is not one bad song or album. they knew how to make great music and it takes a lot of ppl to make it fly, it is not easy to get centred enough all the time but "THE DOORS" KNEW HOW TO REALLY WORK TOGETHER. study this band. they could have kicked butt even further if things were different. Robbie is a great guitarist with a very unique sound.
Well, it comes out of the Virginia swamps cool and slow with plenty of precision... with a back beat narrow and hard to master. Some call it heavenly in its brilliance, others mean and rueful of the Western dream.
The Beatles made so much great music, but for me it was the Doors! Like many others, I was a little young to fully understand their music when it was first released, but I caught on a few years later. Four very intelligent guys EACH providing their own secret ingredient to the mix, taken from many different styles of music. In later years, it was immensely interesting watching interviews with Ray, Robbie and John describe how the whole process came about. Perhaps my only complaint with some of these interviews is that I wish they were not so amateurish, technically ... sound levels, lighting, camera angles and movements, etc.
Music wise the Doors with LA Woman just started to hit their stride, it is truly sad because they would have made so many more albums even stronger then their first. Knowing all their music it leaves me still wanting more, but that is life. Robby is my favorite Guitarist, such a creative player and His sound.
I'm not a musician. But when I very first heard the interludes of LMF. OMG THERE'S BEEN SOMETHING HAPPENING DOWN THERE. Best Musical Novel all time. Door into MYSTERY.
The girl is like a vampire. Today , June 2020 after about 47 years I was drawn back to the Doors. I wonder , with all the global change going on if the Doors music will re-surge. It is strange, and I do not know why I am drawn back to it.?
I've only come to recognize Robby Krieger's genius recently although I've liked the Doors since my brother introduced me to their music in the 1970s...
I know what has been said before about Eddie Vedder, and I know Robbie thought he did the best job,but for me,I think Ian Atsbury NAILED IT!!!!!!!. He provided the most enjoyable performances for me.
If I had to thank him for one thing it would be his guitar solo in “Light My Fire” To have something like that play on old AM radio was utterly mind blowing.
I don't know what it was or still is about Jim that makes people want to know every crazy thing he did and basically just everything he did. I would have 100 questions, just reminiscing about Jim and the doors with Robby. Eddie Vedder seemed to be a big Morrison fan. The Guitarist for the Red Hot Chili peppers did Blue Sunday live about 15 years ago.
@Vin its the tortured soul, gone too soon, artist legend factor. Same thing with Lennon, Hendrix, cobain, Joplin, Jones, and many others that were essentially voices of their generations.
Densmores door was shut completely, manzeriks door was cracked ,Kriegers door was open half way , and Morrison's was completely open. Just my perception
Shoutout to John Densmore for holding the line on selling Cadillac rights to use "Break On Through" (they ran w/ Led Zeppelin instead). It's worth $15m alone to not be a Beatle, not be the Stones, Zeppelin etc and just hold onto that youthful "We're not gonna sellout" attitude. He turned down Apple too, love it.
His guitar playing on Soul kitchen is just absolute sheer genius, how he bounces off Morrisons lyrics and singing. I must have listening to that track a million times. Listen to how he goes off around the 0:54 mark like Mohammed Ali doing a rope a dope, it's brilliant.............ua-cam.com/video/QxizIrbcSuU/v-deo.html
A hundred years from now a kid will hear The Doors for the first time and their mind will be blown.
I doubt it.
@@shatnerhasselhoff Yet here we are 50 years later and they're still spanning time.
Hell no. Humans won't last 100 more years.
@@MrParkerman6 I think it's highly unlikely the entire species will be gone in 100 years. But yeah, it's precarious.
Definitely 👍
Robby Krieger always comes across in interviews as the most laid back and nicest member of the Doors.
The Verbally Abusive Clown and boring
@@heryouhatebuttowhoyoumaste1991 whenever he speaks it has substance. How is that boring?
He is a pure soul and one of the finest guitarist of all time
do it Robbie do it!!!
Nordic Pride yeah robby is a great kid for Jim Morrison
roadhouse blues
He did her after the interview.
Adam Teller if she’s lucky.😉
Jimbo also praised Robby
Robby is such a humble man
Absolutely right.
I. Wish. Jim. Was. Here
yes & really laid-back too..mellow kinda
Lovely reporter too; she is spontaneous, funny and listening to what he is saying. Nice interview!
Thank-you Anne-Marie. This was a great interview with Robbie.

dave johnson they were all prodigies
All great musicians. Ray Manzarek re-connected with Jim Morrison on the beach at Santa Monica in 1965, and the Doors just 2 years later would have the no. 1 song on the radio in 1967.
Robby Krieger is the main reason I learned guitar.
Robby so humble, the writer of two of the Doors greatest hits, Light my Fire and Touch Me.
And love her madly
Also Love me two times.
One of the greatest bands, ever.
I like the fact that interview is about Robbie and The Doors. All the questions are enlightening and new. It is not about all the other questions you see on internet about Jim Morrison. It is all about legacy. Thank you for such a nice interview.
Thanks so much! it means a lot!

Great interview well done ! Robbie seems like a great guy with a very pleasant personality.
Great interview, so natural.
Hats off to Robby… great guitarist and song writer, all around good guy. 👏👏👏
Robby is such a gentleman and handles the exchange with tempered resolve.
He is a master of song writing and his instrument 🎸
All of them were fearless. Spoke their mind all the time
I adore how humble he is 🙂
Great interview...all great questions. "WE MISS JIM"
The music holds up big-time. Even getting better somehow. That does not happen for all bands. Very few. Jim's power does not diminish.
It's not possible to not like Robbie.
saw them play 3 times with ian on vocals and every time they were fantastic,Robbie is probably the greatest inspirational guitarist for me .
Tony iommi
Robbie Krieger
Fast eddie
Are my top 3 :)
OMG! She is so freaking beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous and cute and humble.

Because these genres were and are the best music. Muddy waters, doors, all the oldie goldies. Never will die. The sht today will though.
I saw a tribute Doors band back in the 80's called Moonlite Drive, the person doing Jim was fantastic, the music was spot on.

You can tell each one of them are heartbroken that Jim left them so young
Wow 20 year's
I love the Light my fire video from the Ed Sullivan show, Robbie Krieger looks so damn proud of the song in that video.. And it is so understandable.

ROBBY KRIEGER RULES & ( OF COURSE ) SO DOES THE DOORS. 👍
I'm surprised this young lady knows so much about The Doors and the history of that era.
Its her job. Plus any doors fan, regardless of age, any true doors fan, is going to know the lesser known little factoids.

What a sweet guy.
The Doors 5 to 1 song was really the first Punk Rock song.
