Another tidbit from the experiment: after 6 hours had passed, Marina finally got up and started walking towards the audience in front of her. When everyone saw this, they immediately left in a hurry. Marina felt that this was because they had actually internalized the fact that she was an object, and they were unable to actually face her as a real person out of shame over the things that they had done to her 🥲

I actually did an essay about this years ago. There were a few people from the attendees that stayed with her to look out for her. I don’t think these she’d asked these people, they did it out of worry for her wellbeing. They’re probably the people who wrestled away the gun. After the hours were up and she finally started to move again, a lot of these people ran away, unable to be confronted with the consequences of what they’d done to her.
Her performance reminds me of the Milgram experiment (a psychological experiment where participants were instructed to administer dangerous electric shocks). In both cases people came to believe that their horrifying actions were justified just because someone told them it was okay. A false sense of security made them turn off their empathy and critical thinking.

Consent doesn't even excuse a crime in many jurisdictions, like that German cannibal that had written consent of all the people he ate, the court still ruled thar consent didn't matter because "no sane person could consent to that". I wouldn't dare stab or even point a gun at someone under those circumstances.
It's not about consent but rather permission, you cannot give anyone permission to commit a crime. Even if you consent to your own death you cannot give anyone permission to kill you which is why the cannibal (who is now vegetarian) got into trouble. Even if the victim commited suicide, there are laws about desecration of corpses that he would still have taken afoul of.

Worth mentioning the woman dabbing at Marina's face in one of the photos; she stayed there the entire time doing that, and comforting her, after her initial attempts to get others to stop didn't work. For me that is one of the most powerful details of it, because I feel without it it becomes too easy to look at this as confirmation of "oh well, humans are just naturally horrible", but if one person was able to make the choice to be kind throughout that entire experience, and stay by Marina's side, it proves anyone can do the same. Cruelty is always a choice, kindness is always a choice. It is up to the people which choice they make

Really the moral isn't how far "people" will go... It's moreso that opportunists will always manage to exploit vulnerable situations when they exist. It only takes one guy to get weird... As evidenced by the fact that many people decided to protect her also. So the lesson is really that we need to guard against the small percentage of bad actors even if most people are basically decent.
That's a really important thing to note. Sometimes one person doing something bad makes other people feel allowed to do it too. That's why it's important to call out your friends if they do something that's not okay, not just stand there uncomfortably.
Even if she consent to do anything to her, how can you stand there and think its fun to just torture her, those people did not have minimum empathy and the fact that these were some random people just walking makes it more terrifying to think that people like that are so easy to find.

There is an eternal consequence for each and every human being. We are all under the condemnation of spiritual death., eternal separation from from access to God. (because of our sin nature: that being merely human, we have imperfect thinking, unacceptable for access to Heaven. Which we succumb to in our God given Free Will ) Which is why God also preplanned to give us Jesus to satisfy the sin debt death penalty for aLL sin.... For anyone who accepts that Jesus is the only human without any sin, and also fully God, the Son of God, God incarnate... That He died on the cross by Roman Crucifixion as prophesied and witnessed and recorded.... And, that He didn't stay dead, but was alive again three days later. As witnessed and recorded. And who accepts this forgiveness from God, and chooses to follow Jesus as Lord to be "saved" out of separation and restored to eternal access to God's Presence and Provision. If you choose it.

Which is why people don’t want to believe in God. Because if they believe they will know that someone knows what they’re doing and that there are consequences. There is an eternal consequence for each and every human being.
We are all under the condemnation of spiritual death., eternal separation from from access to God. (because of our sin nature: that being merely human, we have imperfect thinking, unacceptable for access to Heaven. Which we succumb to in our God given Free Will )
Which is why God also preplanned to give us Jesus to satisfy the sin debt death penalty for aLL sin....
God does not force anyone.
You must choose to accept Him,
or to reject His Authority and forgiveness.
I copied an artist for a psychology project by setting up a table in the quad at my university and offering to let people sit with me. Couldnt talk or touch me but they could make faces, uninterrupted eye contact, pantomime, whatever. Sometimes we would sit laughing uncontrollably. Others we were both crying.
This was back in 2000. My findings was that humans dont need words to communicate but most importantly....people are so starved for someones undivided attention that when they get it from someone for even a few minutes, they can bare their entire soul without saying a word.
I wonder how many cried tho. Sounds like some were deeply depressed it seems.. or just having a bad day?

@@buttnuttz6119 Correction: Society doesn't tolerate men crying, so it conditions them from a young age to repress their emotions. It's systemic abuse toward the male sex that causes men to be four times as likely to commit suicide. Double standards suck. In reality, the only differences between the two sexes are physiological, hormonal, and sexual. There's no such thing as gender roles in biology outside of sexual reproduction.
Even our brains are identical. The only reason why men tend to have larger brains is because they're generally taller. The bigger an animal is, the bigger its brain needs to be in order to keep it functional. Sexual orientation is primarily caused by hormones and secondarily caused by environmental factors. Although rare, it's even possible for monozygotic (identical) twins to be of opposite sex. It's caused by a mutation in one chromosome.
