I’m not criticizing, I’m genuinely curious; are her reins to long? I absolutely love the pair and how she handled the horse, course, and grace throughout this course. Is it an attempt to prevent her from becoming to “handsy” and disturbing the horses mouth? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Like I said before I am just curious and would love to learn the reason! ❤️

In hunter riding, it's optimal to have your horse on a longer rein with their neck nice and long, its shows a good tempered horse (you don't have to hold them to a jump or keep them from taking off) and shows a nice form. Great question.

Yup! Hunters is strange. You want the horse to move as relaxed, confident, and smooth as possible. Riding with longer reins and in a light seat helps the horse extend their neck and stride giving a better hunter score. Also just what the horse likes!

It's a hunter thing. Makes their neck look longer

I realize this over past due for a post. The horse rider combo are beautiful. My question is about the posting canter??? By no means is she the only one in these big stakes classes, to do that, but why? Laying on the horses neck after the jump??? What happened to the press release??? I have ridden shown Hunters and ridden in multi Big Eq. classes at A -shows. Just saying look back at Open Hunters, Green Hunters etc. from the 70's and 80's. The Throughbreds were the Hunters with their grace, warmbloods were bred to be jumpers, I guess???? Look back at footage of George Morris, Rodney Jenkins, Bernie Taurige ( sp. ?). They really showed Hunters on out side courses!!! I was not born in those days, they made it look easy and smooth....Get in a 2 pt. or 3pt. position, stop posting at the canter it takes away from the horse....

The "posting" at the canter is called a half-seat and almost every major hunter (some jumpers too) use this seat.
