I posted the same comment on another video and was chastised by another poster who thought that idea was dumb because ramp maintenance was the city/county/ state responsibility. Too many experts with no common sense. Let’s wait for the local government clean up crew to show up is a much better idea then spending 5 minutes with a $10 rake to make your day easier.
I'll agree with having a flexi steel-tine rake and stiff bristle push broom for prepping the ramp surface, but something else a 2WD pickup driver can do (besides having a rear axle limited slip or locker), is to have several hundred pounds of extra weight in the rear of the bed. A big rig truck innertube can be cut into two tubular sections, filled with sand, and the ends folded over and screwed closed. Several of those in the bed will add considerable weight. Water can be used for weight, but a filled 5 gal jug only weighs a little over 40 lbs.
The one thought that I always have when watching these pull outs is: isn't there an attendant, ranger, or someone that manages this park that can either sweep or hose the slippery cover back into the water as the tide lowers? Even just someone who does it voluntarily that receives tips or something. Baffles me. I guess if that happens, there wouldn't be much excitement for Miami Boat Ramps. Those kayakers need to slow down!! Haha.
50 years ago when I was in the timber business, we frequently welded railroad track iron to the back of our trucks for better traction. Don’t know if it would’ve helped him, but it letting some air out of the rear tires to improve traction used to be a common practice, worth a try.
Hey Broncos Guru, God, I love all of you channels, great job on everything!!! You’d think if these people know about this ramp they’d at least bring a rake with them??? 😂😂 Are these ramps owned and operated by the park district in Miami, if so, why don’t they send a crew member there to do a little maintenance on them, like clean them off 😱 Ron
I grew up in Camino Island in the San Juan Islands in Washington state and lived right on the water. I made it small fortune as a very young man, running the skiff over to the local state park, and either dragging back voters that had engine failures or we’re having trouble getting their boats out of the water. seaweed is slick. There’s no doubt about it the best way to do this is to make sure you got a cocaptain that’s competent enough to be able to do a power out end of story.
Granted i live in midwest but growing up dad always told me something that still do every summer at the ramp. Before i back down i lock the truck in 4x4 every single time no matter what. But we don't have the southern lifted fake off road trucks up here lol.
Listen, we're talking about people that don't have lines or fenders either... If these folks were making good life decisions, they'd just set their money on fire.
If I were boating again, and towing with a two wheel drive, I would have a couple of plastic drums in the back filled with water till you get out at least. Then drain them for the ride home.
I still don't understand, if you're towing with a truck, why you don't throw a garden rake and a stiff bristle yard brush in the bed when you head out to the boat ramp. 🤔
My 4wd 2500, a tow strap and a sign: " Back your trailer for 5, tow you out for 10". I could work 10 hours Saturday and Sunday and make operations at the ramp so much smoother. Where do I sign?
I have seen this method work several times. Get out of the boat and put all weight on the bumper of the truck. Yes, bouncing up and down helps a lot. I never understand why people stay in the boat and add to the problem.
They had to see the debris on the ramp when they pulled up. I have zero sympathy for anyone who thinks it is a waste of time to clear the debris before attempting to use the ramp.
People are so silly. If you know this ramp is very slick or covered with debris why not come prepared? Bring a rake, a bag of sand, and a couple asphalt shingles. That would kinda kill the fun from these videos though.
Are there any jails nearby? Maybe a deal could be worked out where the inmates can clean the ramps in exchange for commissary money and time outside in the fresh air.
Imagine living in Florida*, where you only need 4wd once in a blue moon. I could have used 4wd maybe 4-5 times in 21 years where I live in NC, so that would have worked out about $1,000 (2002 dollars) for each time I would have used it! .... Not to mention a much larger turning circle, increased tire wear, and poorer gas mileage. *Also, GA, AL, MS, LA, SC, half of NC, and most of Texas.

Pick-up drivers are a funny lot, especially the 2wd drivers. They all think that a pick-up is the ultimate towing vehicle, when in fact, they are not. Your average 2wd pick-up has about 55-60% of the weight in front, which is why we see these clowns trying to get off the ramp. Far superior would be a full-size SUV, such as a Ford Expedition or Chevy Tahoe or Suburban. More weight on the back tires- better traction. Sounds like the redneck version of Traction Masters. LOL
If you are having trouble getting up the ramp it just makes sense to get people especially full grown adults out of the boat, reduces the weight.
Or have them move to the bow where they'll help the traction.
Out of the boat and into the bed of the truck right over the axle. :-)
