Can anyone recommend some novels that are similar to the Fantastic Four, in the sense that it blends elements and themes of family, action/adventure, exploration, and sci-fi together? Please recommend novels/books not comic books or graphic novels.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, DC should really give Sasha a crack at writing Punchline. Her investment in and knowledge of the character is abundantly clear, and her familiarity with current online spaces would help sharpen of Punchline’s portrayal. Unlikely to happen, but hey, it would be neat!
Sorry, but simply understanding a character does NOT equal / translate to being good at writing for that particular character, let alone being a good writer as a whole.
The argument was that she knows the characters (one line), and the rest is understanding how online spaces work. IN the VIDEO Sash demostrates narrative structure probems in story DELIVERY. Almost none of this conversation was on JUST knowing the characters. But I don't suppose you even know that Mexico is IN America, when your telenovela Trump says MAGA. Entire english language lacks a word like African and Asian that matches GEOGRAPHY of America and people in it. It doens't take a bar much lower than that, how poorly you can write and get away with the bad world-building. Namely you even think "online spaces" is the new popular kids' table after cable news, where Americans set up the tone like Grant Morison and Alan Moore set the tone, held your delicate hands to FINALLY accept serious comics. After 20 years of popularity in Europe and Real America.

She cares a lot about connecting ideas and cohesion and translate things, specially concepts and allegories to a comic media. Her ideas make sense and sound great! And, well, I'd give her a chance to write something.

This whole scheme, the drink, the game, all of it just really seems like something kids, teens, and young adults would be way more likely to get into, especially with the influencer and online aspects. At least some of the Elite Subs should have been younger people or kids with their parents' credit card, and there should have been way more teens and kids being held for use in the game back at the compound. I get that maybe they didn't want to do that because it's kinda icky to include children in darker storylines and such, but honestly it would have added to the realism.
I assumed Dumb Bunny was a new persona but was confused and was unsure where Jaina was or if she was supposed to be one of them. I think when Dumb Bunny showed up I started feeling like “oh no we’re jumping the shark”
My assumption is that Jaina and White Rabbit somehow rejoined, giving White Rabbit enough control to slough off the XO Punch into a new clone; Dumb Bunny.
Yeah this kinda confirms it, this is a great punchline mini series that finally shows they know what they wanna do with her. But it’s comin at the cost of the sirens. Why can’t all the girls thrive man 😔
This REEKS of Doctor Who-style "my idea was much more ambitious than the budget I ended up with"; I assume this was written for an 8+ issue run, and had to be cut-down to 4 last minute.
I think Jaina being in the cell was an artists error, I don't think she was ever shown in the truck with the sirens in issue 2, and they mentioned her staying behind in the city to ask people about the game. It confused me when I saw that panel too.

Opinion one - Yes, the wig works, very much so. The whole outfit is [chef's kiss]. Opinion two - Overthinking is the only way to think. I do love a good off-the-rails moment, and I adore a surprise tonal shift, but the setup has to be consistent. Nothing annoys me more than when a story smartly sets up the rules and then abandons them for plot convenience. That said, I am having fun with this story, so I withhold judgment until the end. Fun can always overrule my cranky overthinking. Opinion three - Less of an opinion than a fact; your channel is a gem.
Ivy putting catcus plants around the entire place so that nobody can leave...ONLY for Punchline to hop in a helicopter and just leave. Now that's peak comedy, even if it's unintentional which I think it was 😅
I like Punchline's direction in this mini. But I would like to see some more Joker + Punchline. Punchline has been working towards a big plan for awhile. I could see Joker coming in after a major setback to help Punchline improve her plans. (You could even throw in a "this how we did it back in my day" moment) This way, a mentor/mentee type relationship could develop. They've played with the idea of Joker having a sidekick/protege across different media in the past. But it's never truly been realized long-term. Punchline is the perfect opportunity to explore how that'd look. I'd prefer that dynamic more than "Joker's new girlfriend." We've done that before with Harley Quinn, I wanna see something new! This channel is slowly converting me into a Punchline fan lmao 🤣
This outing of the Sirens was kind of dead from the first issue to me, sadly. I'm a pretty avid gamer and from my (limited, granted) personal experience the whole appeal of violent videogames is that you AREN'T actually hurting anyone. I just can't see Punchline's game getting much traction through advertising that it's happening to real people.
I wonder if maybe the White Rabbit clone is starting to duplicate herself independent of Jaina, "multiplying like rabbits" so to speak - that's the only thing I can think of why neither WR looks like Jaina
Honestly it could have been interesting if Jaina chose to have WR look like that and not a copy of herself. It could have said something about growing up as an Indian woman in a majority white country or being the child of wealthy parents where she wished she could be someone else who could get away with things and not have all eyes on her for standing out.
Really, I think a lot of this could have been solved by the FDA instead of heroes. I mean, the stores seeing XO can't be off the hook because they are selling a drink from a shady supplier.
Hmm, when you first showed the panel, I assumed White Rabbit somehow made a third version of herself, but, then again, I only recently learned of the character from you, so I have no clue what her powers are supposed to be 😂 I guess it's possible Punchline put Jaina in makeup and had both White Rabbits on XO yet the rabbit variant reacted differently and hulked out. Then again, maybe it was the XO that was the catalyst for the third form and that why it hadn't happened til now. Idk, hopefully they'll explain in the finale 😂
Plot twist: Pipi is a 5th dimensional imp only manifesting as a video game mascot. Shes actually the reason Punchline could trmporarily beat all those heroes on introduction. And it's not science reviving the XO Punch victims its that usual 5th dimensional reset magic. That lets Pipi be sent back if anyone can figure out her real name and get her to say it backwards. Cue additional cake (Zatanna) to find out.
Cool wig. I like to reserve judgement on hanging plot tokens until the end. It's usually not worth the effort, but I think the few times it is are little gems. I also, low-key, expect everything to suck. So I'm rarely bothered by the disappointments.

But I figured Dumb Bunny was a third separate entity rather then one of the other two hulking out, but who even knows at this point. And then the plant zombies showed up and I was confused again. Why did they have cacti on their faces, was XO established at some point of having been derived from plants and I just forgot? It was just a really weird detail that I didn't get. So yeah, this issues just went kinda off the rails for me, which is disappointing because I had been having a lot of fun with it until this point.

At 8:30 You're not over thinking anything youre simply actually reading the comic. The only person who wouldn't be asking the same questions as you is someone who is completely and utterly failing to actually read the story. It doesn't make sense. It does need an explanantion. The story isnt keeping any semblance of cohesion here. You are absolutely right to be asking the questions you are.
The only good thing about this comic is Harley, Ivy, Selina, and White Rabbit escaping (with White Rabbit explaining them that she created a clone named Dumb Bunny so that they can escape) before they encountered Punchline’s forces. That’s it.
Sounds like the miniseries is rapidly devolving into random stuff happening with paper thin reasoning, and is little more than a punchline solo comic reboot in disguise. But the character still doesn't seem to have any kind of strong central gimmick, least of all one that sells the idea of her supposedly being a true believer in the Joker's mission (whether or not she ever understood tgat) or that makes the clown aesthetic remotely relevant. At least the art in this one looks better than last issue/episode. :)
That Punchline wig feels more like Valentia Allegra de Fontaine thing at first thought, with that single purple streak. Sasha Wood, the lifeline to Punchline lol
Everyone knows who Selina is and the other two dont have masks. Who wants to get kitty scratched. Also she probably has a doctor's note saying her cowl is medical for a skin condition. No one needs a lawsuit. But you're right that is a fun line to toss in, why leave it unexplained? Like one doctor in corrupt Gotham wrote these notes and they can't easily legally undo them...
I like the wig, I think it homages Punchline enough without being to overt. The faces this issue do seem to be more in scale to the head size, so I found them less jarring this time. I still don't get why Ivy would care, but I get the feeling that wont ever be answered.

The plot makes no sense, if you have nanites that control people and apparently heal them, there would be easier ways to make money off that, then gaming avatars
random unexplained stuff happening being the majority of the comic is not an entertaining read. especially since our three main "leads" remain mostly flat characters with no real and tangible motivations throughout the story.
I really like this series. I think Absolute Power being so heavy makes it nice to have a palate cleanser. Plus, Harley being possessive of her Bodega Guy still makes me laugh.
I don't know but since the White Rabbit clone can evaporate in an instant and reform elsewhere, Maybe Jaina could do that too and that's how she escaped the cell? In any case I'd be very interested in seeing Jaina become a permanent member of the Sirens although I'm afraid them doubling down on her problematic nature won't work as well as they probably hope it will.

i gotta be honest, when i was reading it i was a bit worried cuz it seemed everything was happening too slow, like the whole first issue had them doing nothing, the second had them just kidnapped, and there was only real confrontation with Punchline in the 3rd issue, i been waiting for a gcs comic for so long haha. But enjoyed it overall, wish they would make more use of the number of issues they had I love dumb bunny even if she don't make sense Also love ur outfit

I honestly think bamboo would do better. It grows fast and high, is relatively sturdy and when overgrown is extremely dense.

At 8:30 You're not over thinking anything youre simply actually reading the comic. The only person who wouldn't be asking the same questions as you is someone who is completely and utterly failing to actually read the story. It doesn't make sense. It does need an explanantion. The story isnt keeping any semblance of cohesion here. You are absolutely right to be asking the questions you are.
Honestly wish Joker involved with what Punchline is doing. Or literally anything that expanded on Punchline and His dynamic.
That one page of the two interacting in Zdeskey's Batman did a better job explaining their relationship than the entirety of the Gotham Game.
Everyone aside from Punchline looks off model
The only good thing about this comic is Harley, Ivy, Selina, and White Rabbit escaping (with White Rabbit explaining them that she created a clone named Dumb Bunny so that they can escape) before they encountered Punchline’s forces. That’s it.
Sounds like the miniseries is rapidly devolving into random stuff happening with paper thin reasoning, and is little more than a punchline solo comic reboot in disguise.
But the character still doesn't seem to have any kind of strong central gimmick, least of all one that sells the idea of her supposedly being a true believer in the Joker's mission (whether or not she ever understood tgat) or that makes the clown aesthetic remotely relevant.
At least the art in this one looks better than last issue/episode. :)

Everyone knows who Selina is and the other two dont have masks. Who wants to get kitty scratched. Also she probably has a doctor's note saying her cowl is medical for a skin condition. No one needs a lawsuit. But you're right that is a fun line to toss in, why leave it unexplained? Like one doctor in corrupt Gotham wrote these notes and they can't easily legally undo them...
I like the wig, I think it homages Punchline enough without being to overt.
The faces this issue do seem to be more in scale to the head size, so I found them less jarring this time.

The plot makes no sense, if you have nanites that control people and apparently heal them, there would be easier ways to make money off that, then gaming avatars
random unexplained stuff happening being the majority of the comic is not an entertaining read.
especially since our three main "leads" remain mostly flat characters with no real and tangible motivations throughout the story.
I really like this series. I think Absolute Power being so heavy makes it nice to have a palate cleanser. Plus, Harley being possessive of her Bodega Guy still makes me laugh.
I love the facial expressions this artist does. Like the crazy eyes and expressions Punchline pulls off do so much to make her feel distinct.
So far the story is funny it should go off the rails, makes it way more fun
I don't know but since the White Rabbit clone can evaporate in an instant and reform elsewhere, Maybe Jaina could do that too and that's how she escaped the cell?
In any case I'd be very interested in seeing Jaina become a permanent member of the Sirens although I'm afraid them doubling down on her problematic nature won't work as well as they probably hope it will.

i gotta be honest, when i was reading it i was a bit worried cuz it seemed everything was happening too slow, like the whole first issue had them doing nothing, the second had them just kidnapped, and there was only real confrontation with Punchline in the 3rd issue, i been waiting for a gcs comic for so long haha. But enjoyed it overall, wish they would make more use of the number of issues they had
