  • We'll go through the process of budget filmmaking by making a short film for less than $1000!
Learn how to film yourself and others with our brand new course: andyax.com/cou...
Music Vine is sponsoring the video by giving us/you 10% off the first licence! musicvine.net/...
For the short film we are making in this video, we are using the Canon 700D/rebel t5i with the 18-55mm kit lens, the rode videomic Pro, a broom and a reflector!
Okay, so this is going to be exciting, and I know a lot of you have been waiting for this video. If you are the type of person who wants to see the short film first, click the following timecode or go to timecode: 30:56
Here is the camera and lens we used, including a free SD card and camerabag: www.bhphotovid...
And here is a video creator kit which includes a microphone: www.bhphotovid...
There are many aspects of a film production and we'll go through some of those we think is important (click the preferred timecode):
1:43 - Finding the idea and writing
4:04 - Research. Finding the locations, finding actors, buying camera, microphone and light equipment.
10:24 - Shooting the film. Technicolor Cinestyle picture profile, camera angles, directing actors, blocking, lighting a scene and recording sound
20:40 - Editing. Premiere Pro CC, color grading, sound effects, adding music, Music Vine and exporting.
30:56 - The shortfilm "Coming home"
We would deeply appreciate your help for our next big UA-cam project. Do you want to support us? Link: www.indiegogo....

Gotta say guys, this is one of the most brilliant beginners film making videos I've seen on UA-cam. Just watched the whole 43 minutes and the work that would have gone into it would have been huge. For any beginning filmmakers this is a great resource and I highly recommend it. Great work Anders and Eskild, this one will definitely be a massive hit.

Loving it. I'm just halfway into this video and moved to comment. Can't believe you put in so much effort even for the behind the scenes. I just noticed that one of the shots in the behind the scenes in the train scene is actually from inside the train. Now that's true dedication for content. Overall, even the explanation and documentation is so effective. Absolutely loved it. :)

Andyax Im thinking about getting a new camera instead of my Nikon 5100 I would want the 700d but with a 18-135mm lens should I get that or should I get the 70d with 18-55 mm? Im a beginner filmmaker BTW and also thinking to get a bommpole glidecam slider microphone and a tripod and tripodhead for the slider because it doesnt have one because it only costs 50€. Should I wanted to get the rode rycote because its less expensive than the pro. Would love to Hera back from you.

Andyax, I know you disabled comments in the other video, but I am SO SORRY for your loss. Eskild was such a smart individual and very cheerful in his videos; it's so easy to lose sight of the fact that someone could be cheerful on the outside but suffer from depression on the inside. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. It makes me happy that his previous videos will continue to inspire new generations of photographers/videographers indefinitely. I wish you and his friends/family the best.

I've recently become interested in the making of short films. Watching this has been a fun little adventure. While watching, I decided to take a trip to the comment section where I discovered that Eskild has since passed. That was really sad... couldn't even watch the rest of the video with the initial excitement that I had. From then on, it was more of solemn appreciation and learning, but I've now reached the end of the video and must say it was very informative and entertaining. Liked & subbed. Hopefully I can learn how to use some editing software quickly, because I did not understand the part about syncing voices.
RIP Eskild. Blessings to you & your team Anders.

Amazing incite into film making on a low budget. Extremely saddened by the news of Esklid passing. I want to produce a film on the effects of long work hours, particularly unsustainable, twelve hour plus, rotating rosters causing physical and mental breakdown due to sleep deprivation. This whole film is reflective of so many peoples lives. My hope is to have them legislated against. Thankyou again for this most inspiring video. Esklid may have passed but his memory and inspiration will remain fo along time to come. God Bless.

For those that mentioned the computer, good point. Theres a cost to having a computer and (some) software does cost money. People's time is worth something as well. It all needs to be counted in the budget, even if people volunteer their time and you already have a computer, etc. Not everyone has the time and equipment that wasn't tallied, so to make this applicable to everyone, ALL the costs must be counted.

I think the scene at 37:19 should be aligned before the scene at 37:11 ( as in the beginning, from the station to the house, Actor crosses the location of 37:11 1st and then location of 37:19 and then enter the house. So when he went back to the station from the house, he is supposed to cross location 37:19 1st and then location 37:11 ( in reverse order)

The setup I'm about to buy off Amazon (staying in the $1,000 budget):
    - Panasonic Lumix G7
    - Rode Videomic with fuzzy windjammer (refurbished/used)
    - Electronic Lens Mount Ring Adapter for Canon ES/EF-S lens to M4/3. I have a lot of friends around me with canon lenses, so I'm going to use this adapter to be able to use their canon lenses on my G7.
    - SUTEFOTO S40 Stabilizer. I could buy the Ikan Beholder 3-axis Gimbal, but it costs $509 on Amazon...while the S40 costs around $60 which allows me to purchase a lot more equipment such as lighting, more batteries, etc. (especially on a $1,000 budget)
    - Transcend 128GB High Speed 10 UHS-3 Flash Memory Card Able to handle the 4K that the camera can shoot at.
    - Selens 168 LED Dimmable Ultra High Power Panel Digital Camera / Camcorder Video Light.
    - 2x NP-550 batteries in-order to power the Selens 168 LED video light.
    - 5 extra batteries for the G7.
Overall Cost (for me as of November 27, 2016): $993.62
The Panasonic Lumix G7 does have image stabilization built-in, but it's not amazing. Just good. Instead you can purchase lenses that do provide better IS (image stabilization). Which is why I'm purchasing a lens adapter (that has aperture control, auto exposure, and built-in image stabilization features) to allow me to use Canon lenses, on my G7, from people I have been able to network with. Family, friends, acquaintances, etc. Save money by going out and asking people kindly, and people will help! It can record in 4K quality at 30fps (100Mbps). Along with 1080p HD at 60fps, 50fps, 30fps, and 25fps. Fully functional built-in flip touchscreen which allows the screen to be flipped out and turned in multiple angles. Auto Focus feature isn't the greatest, but I always shoot video in manual focus mode. Allowing me to have full control of focus rather then having the super slow camera focus do it as most people use manual focus anyways. Hopefully this setup is a better alternative! If you guys have questions, or disagree. Reply below and I can hopefully answer them, or look into other suggestions you guys post. I can also post up a wish list from Amazon of all the items I'm buying if you guys would like to look at it, or even purchase the setup yourselves! Cheers! :)

I'm just a poor musician in Australia so I can't afford to pay any money for your project, but if you're in need of some free music I'd happily help seeing as you've helped me so much. I'm trying to buy a camera in which you can manually set up the focal point, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and frames per second. The camera link you displayed, can it do all the things which I just put up? Also, if you guys are ever planning to make a film, I hope that I could be a part of it by giving you a good story. I'll have to find ways to earn money to go to college.
