  • Gameplay of the boss Boss Baraka in Midway/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.
    Boss Baraka’s moves:
    • Square: Projectile
    • Triangle: Spread projectile
    • Circle: Scissor Swipes
    • R1+Square: Triple slash combo
    • R1+Triangle: Somersault grab
    • R1+Circle: Sweep slash
    • Square+Triangle: Backhand
    • Triangle+Circle: Air slash
    • Circle+Square: Sweep and impale grab
Baraka is definitely a mixed bag. He has a lot of his iconic moves, but in regular gameplay they’re a bit lacking. He has two projectiles, a single one and a spread-shot one, but the timing on the spread-shot one makes it a bit impractical. His regular sweeps just don’t really do enough damage, and even his scissor swipes attack is surprisingly useless. The two real upsides he has are his running air slash attack, which is relatively safe, as well as his two grab attacks. Not only are these incredibly easily to perform, with the somersault one being really safe, but they deal good damage and he’s invincible while using them. He has a small bit of combo potential, being able to chain his air slash into his triple swipe and even then his single projectile, but it can be difficult to execute these consistently. On the whole, a skilled player could definitely do a playthrough with Boss Baraka, but it would certainly be an uphill battle. Still, definitely some potential on the whole.
Unfortunately, Baraka takes chip damage from blocking, which means the game doesn’t count it as a real block for some reason, and so you’d need to play as him beyond the tutorial parts of the game, like most of the unplayables. I’m not even sure why it wouldn’t work for him; most of the unplayables manage it just fine, even if they take block damage, but it just glitched with Baraka for some reason. Not a huge loss however, given how gimped his moves are it probably wouldn’t make for the most fun of playthroughs.
Up next, the fiery variant of everyone’s favourite yellow ninja.

In other news, I mentioned on my post that Force Five and Kenju have finally been leaked. I've been waiting to play them for 5+ years by this point so it's honestly pretty special. Already hacked and found the bosses in each game too (thank god Naomi has such streamlined coding), so I'll be doing vids on them after the remaining MK vids are uploaded.

oh, i was wondering how to even unlock them so that's good news! hopefully loading up the bosses doesn't crash the game, trying to fight them so far is impossible, least with the emulator i'm using

They're perfectly fine if you hack to play as them. Both games seem to have a chance to crash after a while, unfortunately, but the bosses themselves don't crash either game which is good. I'll be doing tutorials on how to access both in the near-future anyhow.

What you did to play as him? Because I tried some codes on PCSX2 and it never worked :(

Forgot this game existed. I've heard it's a pretty good beat em up. But ps2 mk has soured my tastes no matter the genre, I doubt I'll play it.

Really? That's a shame. If you loved classic MK you'll really enjoy this, I think.
