This is very helpful , but I would also like to say that if you hold the comb at more of an angle to the hair so you are not directly horizontal you will blend the hair . I do a lot of scissor over comb where I work and it is something that I found really helps in detailing and dry cutting if you have a small weight line left. I like this hairstyle and definitely will have to recommend it to some of my clients!
Matt Beck does Mizutani have financing on their shears? I love the ACRO knife and the Z2 and the sword wood. Can’t decide which I want yet but I can’t afford to pay all at once. Please let me know!!
Would a scisssor with the blade getting thicker at the tip also be a good option for doing scissor over comb since it keeps the power toward the tip and help keep that consistency?
I'm a barber and I've been cutting for about 3 1/2 years. A large majority of the cuts that I do involve scissor over comb. I'm looking to buy something in the $150-$225 range and can't really afford more then that. I'm wanting a 7-8 inch shear... Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Daniel Cooley then ur in a wrong place for the price range....Good news is there is shears out there for u I have been using 44/20s shear over comb for the longest time and they was a very good tool for the $....The key is to find someone who sharpen shears and know wht they r doing. Ne shear u buy tht has a decent hardness to the blade will hold a edge for a quite long time and if thts wht ur looking for then u dont need to spend no where near ur max budget....44/20 7inch total of around $90 and ur happy as a clam!!!!
Don't discourage the guy. I've been doing hair for 8 yrs and I still have a hard time finding good scissors without spending too much. Yes I know it's an investment but dropping $1k on a scissor isn't realistic for everyone. Shark fin has some decent shears and I just got them serviced and deliver a clean crisp cut. I sent my Hattori hanzo shears interested in for servicing and just bought a beater pair from Cosmoprof (cricket life shear) $100 6.5inch it cuts better than I expected. My hanzo (tsuku model) is a workhorse scissor but their customer service isn't that great and the sales rep only come by when it's time to make a sale and not check in on how your doing with your scissors. Mizutani, hikari, bmac, kasho are all top of the game but with that comes a hefty price tag. Look into getting a used pair. And please stay away from fancy looking scissors with engraved designs and rhinestones. All for show and are expensive. Good luck!
Hey man, I bought some acro knife slims from your website for Black Friday. I just started using them right now and it like pulls the hair when I do deep parallel point cutting or slide cutting, I was wondering if you could do a video on how how to like properly use it or something like that, and like what all it can be used for. It is a pricey scissor and the way it's described it seems like it does mostly everything, I would just like to understand it more, I might not be using it right, I don't know honestly. Thanks!
maybe try german style scissors for scissor overcomb its not a convex blade so it won't push the hair up solingen style steel just slices through and is ideal for scissor overcomb due to the shape of the blade
Really want to improve my scissors over comb technique. Thank you for such a clear and straightforward example!
Thank you, Matt. I am shopping for new shears, and I know I can always count on you for the best info!

+Emiliano Morado it pulls the hair like it's not cutting it or the hair is getting stuck somewhere?
Free Salon Education like it's tugging on it and not cutting it, somehow like the blade is heavy i don't know it's weird.

Awesome !!!
