Thought it was hopeless but then found this vid, appreciate posting it. I just acquired a 1967 Gravely with a K301, front starter bearing almost gone. A magnet broken in half and loose but still works with 1.5 magnets. Going to order that kit.
That's a decent kit and a good price too. You do nice work. I've torn apart several of these over the years and found that most of them die from that bushing on the bendix side wearing out and a magnet getting destroyed from it. If someone came up with a kit with a needle bearing in there, these starters would last forever. Interesting idea on putting lube holes on yours. I just use molygraphite on mine but I like your idea better. You do nice work. Looks great and it'll probably last a long long time. 👍 BTW how did you clean the parts. I used an ultrasonic cleaner with a little bit of Dawn. Works great.
Search around too.. It wouldn't hurt. Just type in "Cub Cadet 1200 starter" (or whatever model your tractor is), etc, as there's quite a few kits on there, from various vendors, which vary in price. ;)

@@jonmyers8046 I usually just use a degreaser on the parts and a wire wheel. For electrical parts I like to clean with WD40.
Great video, thanks for showing the process! Looks dead simple. I'll be rebuilding my starter as soon as the kit comes in. 👍
Great Video and exactly what I needed! Thanks.
Glad I can help
Anyone who dares to take apart and service a starter 🏆 is worth subscribing to 🤓👍
You got that right!
where you get the kit?
I remember getting a 5.00 kit and fixing alts and starters
But now it’s 350.00 and government collects massive taxes
A drop off 30w oil will last a long time so don’t over do it
Would be a mess
Can you post a link to the rebuild kit?
I havent been able to find one.
If you type in on Ebay (Starter Repair Brush Holder & Bushing Kit Kohler K161 K181 K211 K241 K301 K321) the rebuild kit should show up.
@@therenaissanceman5311 Thanks!
can you provide a link to the supplier of the rebuild kit ?
