Product Description;
All Pond Solutions 2000EF+ External Filter
This 2000EF+ External aquarium filter with built in UV system from 'All Pond Solutions' uses a multi-stage approach to filtration and filters your tank water through a number of distinct filter materials that are separated into different layered baskets to provide biological, mechanical and chemical filtration to your aquarium fish tank.
These filters work on the same principle as internal powerhead filters, but are positioned outside the tank and draw water into the filter through an inlet tube and return the water via an outlet tube. The outlet tube is fitted with a spray bar to increase aeration within your tank. These type of external filters avoid the need for an unsightly filter inside the tank and the media capacity is much larger than internal filters and they are therefore suitable for much larger tanks.
By filtering your tank using the provided filter media you will see a much improved level of waste-free water, strong biological purification and active control of your water characteristics. Thanks to the filters layered basket system and ease of access it is very simple to customise your media choices to suit your aquarium and live stock needs.
The built in UV sterilizer exposes passing water to lethal doses of ultraviolet light, killing, sterilizing or otherwise irreparably damaging many micro-organisms. Your fish tank water is pumped slowly past the UV light which is sealed inside a quartz glass sleeve which is designed to allow the maximum amount of UV to pass through the water.
Filter maintenance is very easy as the units drip free shut off tap allows you to move the filter away from your aquarium fish tank to another area more suitable for cleaning. Each filter media basket lifts easily out of the unit and can be easily rinsed over a sink or likewise and returned back to the filter unit to continue its operation.

Thank you, I've been debating on getting one of these over a very popular, more expensive brand that was recommended to me by a well known fish chain.. noise level was one of the things that i've been after finding out about and seeing yours actively running in this video has really helped. Thank you so much!
I have owned a all ponds solutions 1400ef for over a year and never had a single issue with it. I have just bought a new impeller and head seal as with the 12 months maintenance and can not see why it wont last ten years would definetly recommend. nice video buddy.
This All Pond Solutions 2000EF+ is actually a chinese SunSun 304b filter boxed with a different make on the box. I've got the same labeled as Jialu in black with all the bits identical as the ones in the video. There are a few differences like the handle on the top witch I don't have and my UV switch is on top rather than on the side. Here in Bulgaria where I'm from most of the cichlid keepers use SunSun external filters as they are cheap, quiet and reliable so you won't be dissapointed if you go for this big boy.
I agree
I'm glad I watched this & read the comments. I was so close to purchasing 2 of the 1000lph versions. My current Fluval 205 which has a 420lph circulation has almost as much flow as the 2000lph model in this video. It looks great on price but I think it is a false economy. I think I'll stick to the tried & tested & spend a little extra on an inline UV sterilizer.
one of the best filter on the market. have mines over a year and it works like a dream. Massive media capacity and very quiet.
i think this fillter is one of the best i have bought....for less than other external fillters out their, had a few problems priming it, but once done my tank was realy clear within 24 hrs.
despite everyones comments below i still went ahead and bought one of these filters, Best value for money you can get, all the people below obviously they expected alot more for their money, it is a good filter but am going to change one of the trays for pillow fluff for better clarity. Spray bar doesnt let out alot of flow due to restricted holes and surface skimmer is a nice added extra
I have this filter and think it is spot on for the price!! the 2000ef really does have good flow.
I bought the 2000EF with Ultra Violet a good filter worked first time no leakes. Would recommend it.
When cleaning my filter i fill and stack the baskets outside the canister and bind them together with electrical tape. I then put the canister on its side and slide the baskets in and turn the canister the right way up and cut the tape away from the top of the baskets. This ensures the baskets are aligned correctly, and then i Vaseline the rubber gasket and fit the motor.
I have had one of these for over a year works great mines is a aquatop cf500uv same filter. @john i put 4 filter pads at bottom basket, biomax in 3rd, chemical in 2nd and prefilter with course pad in top. This setup keeps my bio and chemical from clogging. My filter really never gets dirty just the pads. Great filter just always make sure your hoses are very secure they pop off easy and flood everything.
I've used the skimmer on my APS 1400 filter and it worked fine mate. The plastic tubing could do with some tweaks. People concentrate on the filters negatives rather the large amount of positives.
I've got a Fluval 450...? I believe. rated for 100 US Gallons and never liked the ribbed tubing they use, Want to get a bigger tank one day, so thanks for doing the review!
dont get me wrong i like and use the filter and even intend on swapping my 305 for a 1400 in one of my other tanks (i do like the UV feature) but its sometimes good to mention the negatives as well as the positives, balanced review ;)
I have heard that the pipework can be a bit loose but think about the price you paid for it. These are great filter you just have to do a few tweaks to get it connected right. Maybe put a rubber band around the pipe and push the connector over it to keep it in place. Use super glue to hold the pipework together or even aquatic silicon.
I bought a 2-3month old FX5 and the seller ripped me off (It never turned up) I own the 1400EF+ All pond solution filter so I thought that 2000EF+ would be a great replacement. No complaints what so ever about the filter.
Thanks btw : )
hi johnny Jackson yes you can use this filter on a 180L tank no problems as I did.
also if anyone is having problems with the prime/setup of this external filter my advice would be CAP the breather/suction part that cleans the top of your water it just bobs up & down then settles on water level on the overflow pipe as this part just sucks loads of air down your tube into your filter which makes the filter malfunction & you wont be able to prime properly (it makes a lot of noise).
Primed mine first time. Only issue I had, was that it was missing the correct elbow for the spray bar, sorted this myself. But I found the easiest way to prime was. 3parts fill to top of 3rd tray and seal. Hold down the prime button, open the valve lever and then plug it in, very little trapped air and primed within30secs.
Yes you can adjust the length mate
The most difficult part about the cleaning out is getting the top off and the trays out. This is because of suction. The easiest way of counter acting the suction on the top is by unlocking and removing the tap section of the filter (shown in the video at the 3:06 mark). The easiest way of removing the trays is to have somebody squeeze the corners of the filter body as you pull the trays out.
You just pull the lid handles up and it breaks the seal, very easy..
I have got the 1400 in my 180 litre tank. The only thing you would need to worry about is the flow rate of the water coming back into the tank. If the filter is too big the current will batter your fish and tank decorations. The think fish website forum, generally recommend a filter that kicks out 10 times the tank capacity every hour for heavily planted tanks. With this ratio 2000 lph filter for a 200 litre tank should be o.k.
I bought one of these filters from true aqua for a steal of a price exact same unit inside and out with the built in UV sterilizer it has been running solid almost one year still wisper quiet good flow I also run an Aquaclear 110 hang on with this in my 66 gallon I stock lots of big angelfish a crab loaches, corys, apple snails lots of creatures it has been a great unit I replaced my fluval 405 with this unit its a good filter im very happy with it priming is a bitch sometimes no big deal.
I have the Aquatop version of this filter and its similar, but it looks as tho the all pond has a few more features. For example, mine doesn't have a water level control. Still a good filter tho!
im interested to see if you find the surface skimmer doing much skimming, mine doesn't seem to do much of anything.I was a little disappointed by that and be careful that the outlet elbow is secure as mine blew off one night as it was a "sloppy" fit and the company had used silicone to attach it and this didn't hold, this made a real mess in my planted tank (not as much of a problem in your cichlid setup) blasted the substrate directly under the outlet and uprooted all the planting.
Thanks. I know it was cheap. I will try your suggestions. Just want to create enough agitation so i don't have to use my air pump.
I got the same filter here in the states (Aquatop CF-500UV) in a 75 gallon tank (283L to you, ha) and having some clarity issues. I set mine up a little different with Bio-Max, coarse and 2 fine filter pads, activated carbon, then bio balls. I added a Penguin 350 (since I had it) to help but the Aquatop should be enough. I would be very interested in what you think. I did seed the filter and you can see how the tank is stocked on my channel (not too much).
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Superb on the price but IMO can't touch a eheim canister at all. I read an article once that these low end of the market ones majorly overhype the output. Once being tested.
No problem, if you any help when you get the new tank let me know.
Good video, thank you. Please can you show how you do a proper filter clean. Would be most helpful.
Can you adjust the outlet to make it go further down the tank in the water? . I have terrapins and the water isnt filled up to the top like fish. hope you can help.
Also to prime mine I fill to top off basket before i put top on then turn on and push the prime button down and i hold it until i see bubbles coming out the return then i release and it gets the air out. Hope this helps, this is how I doit works everytime.
Agree thanks for your feedback!
@mbezik I totally agree with balanced reviews. As it was a personal reviews and as I've not had any problems with the plastic fittings I didn't mention it ;)
I'm trying to say people cant point out pros and cons together pal ;p
i rang them got through 1st time brought the ef2000 and took about 1week free postage and cost £69.99 it's a steal works perfect on my 700ltr discus tank i got 2 on there getting rid of the noisy fluval shit.
I have the 1000+uv and the flow is crap I can see particals just swim past the outlet need help is this normal or is there any way of making it more powerful it’s brand new few days old primed up no air locks or out I have water coming out but not a great deal ???
Either on or off Mike. both outlets? you mean inlet and outlet? Yep I have them together because on the size
Flow rates are miss leading. The rate doesn't include when the media is added. This applies to the size of your tank. So half whatever the manufacturers states
Great price and has 4 trays you can fill with biomedia, do you have any criticism of the APS externals?
Hope this isn't a silly question. I've always been lead to believe that biological filteration was achieved by the action of bacteria in the filter so doesn't having an built in uv sterilizer counter this? Great videos, you've really re-kindled my interest, I can see this costing me money so thanks...I think!
ive just got this filter, how long does it take to prime? the water is running into the pipes but it doesnt seem to be filling them up. the filter is full of water
I own one of these but haven't used it for about 8 months now, reason being it uses 55 watts! That's an insane amount of electricity compared to similar filters. People need to take this into consideration when buying a filter, yes the initial purchase price is low but the money spent on electricity bills over time will eventually make the savings worthless. If however you are not concerned about that its a great filter when bought with some extra media.
beans2020 Hi just came across your comment. I am looking to get an external filter and due to price, I came across this one. What I like about this is its size, lots of room for bio media etc and it has a good flow rate, but just as you said it uses 55 watts which i can imagine is a lot. My mind is stuck between buying this one or getting the fluval 406 which is possible the best on market right now and it only uses approx 20 watts. When you were using this? Did you notice the difference in how much electricity it used on you? I mean was it very noticeable as right now i use one of them meters that i top up each week.
Thanks bolly ur legend mate. Yeh i meant in n outlet , so ideally would u place inlet on 1 side of the tank and outlet at the other to provide good flow through the tank??
Hi iv just got the same filter xan you please help me with the media order not sure weather to put the white media ontop or below noodles bioballs carbon would be greatful if you could help ... PLEASE
The outlet from the tank to the filter, slides telescopically and has no problem reaching the bottom of my tank 50 cm.
What is the actual measured flow rate that comes out with filter media in situ. I don't mean the manufacturer word flow rate. Would the flow be too much for a 100 litre tank with 4 gold fish (that poo like crazy) and 5 minnows and a sucking loach.
hi bolly good work on getting tank set up looking good :)
did you decide against getting a fluvial fx5 external?
hi can you tell me the approximate cost for running this 24 hours a day, i take it its on all the time, thanks
just started to keep Malawi cichlids in a 4'x15''x18'' tank(jewel ?)which came with an external filter which looks like an all pond solutions 1000 ef which leaks when you switch it off can you purchase new seals from any where. the tank has an internal filter also
I bought this second hand and has to give it a very good clean, however, I was wondering if the inlet and outlet tubes connect to the filter in either of the left or right connectors or can they attach to either of them? I've been struggling to get it primed.p, thank you 😥
What size would you recommend for a 180 litre tank with dwarf gourami and bosmani rainbow fish with live plants also would do you use stock media or swap it out for something else
Allpondsolutins exelent value for the money I have three 2000 ltr h it does what it says on the box and also has large media baskets as well as a large diameter hoses
Do u reccomend taking off the spray bar n just hav the outlet? Also which is the best placement off both outlets? Do u hav urs together coz of the length of ur tank?
Great videi mate how long did the filter last you I have just ordered one!
How do you like your filter? I have seen the same ones under the "AquaTop" label and I am wondering how great the quality is compared to Fluval and Eheim?
How do you turn it on? Im clueless when it comes to externals haha and now this filter is a prize for POTM too bad ill never win hahaha.
I believe the difference is this. The bacteria in your filter that turn your ammonia to nitrites and nitrites to nitrates are attached to your filter medium (ceramic noodles & bio balls) and as a result the majority don't come into contact with the light directly. The bad micro-organisms that you want the light to kill are free floating in the water and will eventually pass through the filter and directly past the uv light.
great vid, looks like a quality filter at a decent price
quick question interested on buying one of these done lots of research might be a stupid question but does the uv not also kill the good bacteria or just the bad stuff or do you leave you tank to cycle grow your bacteria then once you added fish use the UV ??
Can i also use this filter for a water turtle in a aquarium 80x30x60 to keep the water clean?
hi I have a juwel lido 200 and have brought a all pond solutions 2000ef+ would their be any problems thanks
Hi my filter is turning off and on automatically never use to be like this should I concern about it or not. And it happened when I opened it to clean it can you help me with it please
hey bolly12345 did you put the union nut thing over the hose then put hose onto shut off valve then screw the union thing on and attatch the hose that way? (thats how my other filter does it) or do screw the nut thing back as far as u can then put hose on and then thread the nut thing down onto the hose and do it that way? don't know if this makes any sence but it does in my head
got the updated version will repost how it dose my 755ltr tank
What do you think if the connections for the spray bar mine seem very lose and leak i also fitted a inline heater which is half inch the pipe that comes with this are 3/4 will it affect the flow much with the different size pipe being reduced to fit the inline heater.
Have to you tried cleaning this out yet? How do you find it to clean out for quickness and ease?
great filter i own one myself but why do they all ways give you green tubing ok for freshwater tanks but clashes with marine tanks
Bolly, see the inlet to the filter? (the pipe with the strainer) Can the overall length of that be changed/adjusted or is it a set standard length.
Hello thanks for the info how big in hight is it ?
Hi mate I was just wondering what litre your tank was I am getting a 300 litre soon. Do you think that this filter will be able to cope. The ones I have been looking at are in the region of £200 and this one looks brilliant for the money let me know cheers. The tank is 5ft 300 litre and is home to cichlids
Would it his filter be enough for a 350L overstocked malawi set up? I do regular maintenance on my current filter and weekly water changes
If you fill the filter to much when setting it up does it effect the flow rate?
can you use this with the aquaripure nitrate filter i have nitrate rich water ive near a farm but do not want to over bio filter
i have run this filter for over year now and NEVER had any problems with it wat so eva
im using All Pond Solution 2000EF+ at the one end of my fish tank and SunSun 304b on other, both run fine, to be honest, there are no difference between 2000EF+ or SunSun, both do the job
Would that inlet work with a sump or do you need to have a hang on syphon
i find mine every bit as good as my fx5 and fx6 ....nothing magic about these big name filters ive had them all over the years and they do nothing different ...2-3 of these on a big tank full of alfagrog and a little internal fulll of floss works perfectly ,easier to clean and remove than an fx6 too,....little tip i always sit my externals in a plastic tub just in case of spills keeps the cabinet bone dry
is the filter really quiet or dose it make noise
I just bought a fluval 125 tank. Came with all the fluval bits and pieces. I'm using a fluval u3 internal filter.
I went for African mbuna and peacock cichlids 13. sadly 1 died swimming very fast smashing its head into the glass. Do any body known why my cichlid did this.
Can't seem to get my nitrite and nitrate down.
The level's are off the chart.
Good news. I went to my local pet shop and they are keeping 8. I'm keeping 4 until I get my nitrite and nitrate level's down. Came home and done a full tank water change. All water out. Added new water added fluval cycle and fluval aquaplus last but not least my cichlids ....and too my surprise nitrate and nitrite level's are looking very good. Actually fantastic.
For me to get the rest of my cichlids back. Can someone please advise me on a external filter . and would it be better than internal filter .
Exelent filters I have three 2000ltr an hour also very large baskets and large piping that do what it says on the box
Hi, reading through your comments. How do you rate the 1400 EF model? I’ve joust bought it and quite disappointed with the flow?
@mike2dg yep that's right Mike if the tubing stretches that far ;)
Look for a company that is called aqua top they make a similar product And is available in the usa
i bought an all pond external filter wish works great when its running but i have a huge problem trying to prime it. some times it take as much as 2 hours to get it running. HELP!
Do you know how to connect the spray bar? I'm trying on mine and i get it connected and as soon as i turn the filter on it falls apart. I've tried many ways of connecting to outlet but failing miserably :(
i always wondered about this brand, seems to be pretty good then. so since yours has UV FILTER, does it really eliminate 100% algae?
which is better all pond solution filter or build in 240 litre juwel aqurium filter
please send a reply
I'm weighing up whether to get one of these filters. However the problem I have is that where and how my tank is situated, the filter would need to sit about a foot above the aquarium. Now i've used external filters before but never placed them above the tank, do you think this filter would be powerfull enough to take water upwards like this? On the review, it says Max Height - 2 metres. Now I don't exactly now what this means? Can anyone advise?
Hi Mark, I have just ordered 2 filters from All Pond Solutions, 1400EF and 2000EF and 2 6000WM wave makers. Guess delivery will take some time as they need to be sent to Kenya. In your video you mention "Priming the filter" whats that and how is it done?
Hi, so quite a few years have past since this video was made. Do u still have this filter and how's it been?
I have a 70L tank (videos on my channel) Will this filter be to big and powerful for my tank? I want to get that bar thing with holes in to try and disburse the power of the outlet will it work on my tank mate?
how long do you think you should have the uv liht on for ?
cool man thanks I just bought one on eBay AU86.90$ cheapest and the best by far
how high can this filter pump up the water in a straight vertical line,
Cheers, will put my order in for one then. You should be on commission for these things lol... PS hope you feel better soon mate
cheers mark, hey wanted too upload a video of my fish onto youtube ? can you do it from an iphone 4s mate ? my saulosi & polits love cucumber and of course the NEW ERA & sera granugreen & cichlid flake,is that a good enough diet mark...
I went for the fx6 Ive had multiple issues with all pond solutions filters so I gave up, buy cheap buy twice
hi would you be able to tell me which order you put your filter media in i have a 1400ef+ and i am just setting up a mbuna tank but just not sure of the order of the media (i wont be using carbon tho) thanks
Thinking of getting one of these for my 200 litre tank. Whats your thoughts?? Would I be better with a 1000 or 1400 version? I do not mind paying a bit extra for the 2000.
Cheers
I heard that the uv-sterilizer can kill good bacteria too?
How would you say the reliability is after owning for a few year now
Priming is letting ur filter fill with water. Just press the pump on top.
