Where will you be visiting in Portugal??
lisbon.. living actually.. but coming from mozambique so portuguese won't be an issue since it's my native language hehe
Hi your Porto city is lovely
Moving to Graça, overlooking Jardim da Cerca.
July and October. I have great friends living in Lisbon and Tomar.
Wife and I are visiting in July. We land in Porto, stay for 4 day then off to Lisbon for 4 days then to Albufeira for 4 more days then back to Lisbon for one night and home to Washington DC. It really is a vacation but since we're going to be retiring in about 3 years we're also looking at it to see if we could live in Portugal. If we decide yes, then there are going to be many more trip for longer stays in different areas to get a feel for the area. Madeira comes to mind also. Thanks for your videos. They're very helpful.
I love how asking for a coffee is considered survival. In my world, it certainly is 😀
It's funny how this applies to so many different nationalities aswell, whether it be German or Spanish, French or Portuguese, how to ask the time, how to find a train station and how to order at a café 😂
As a server in an English tearooms I love videos like this, trying out my German or Portuguese on foreign customers, it always gets a warm reaction ❤
I am a Portuguese living in China and watching your videos has been so therapeutic for me.
I am loving my experience in China and I love the Chinese people, culture and language (I have wanted to come here for years!), but I do want to return to Portugal once my work contract ends.
Watching foreigners loving Portugal and appreciating my country, culture, and language makes me feel so happy and grateful for being Portuguese. And the thought that one day I will return to my country makes me even more grateful to be having this expat experience myself, here and now in China. All the experiences you go through in Portugal, I am going through the same but in China.
We are all humans, we are all citizens of the world :)
Beijos e felicidades para todos, de uma portuguesa na China! :)
So well said! Enjoy your experience 😊
Oh, I am in China and trying to learn Portuguese because met few friend who are native.
We spent a few years in Portugal, and Liz’s videos and course(s) were, for me, the very best of the many ways we came across to learn the language. They really are perfect for English speakers, whichever anglophone country you are from. I’ve noticed lately that there are a lot of ads on UA-cam which (oddly) try to belittle the idea of “watching UA-cam videos” to learn to speak Portuguese. But don’t be fooled - Liz’s vids and even more, her courses, are both fun and quite serious (not contradictory qualities), better than any other method I tried, which was quite a few. I have no financial or other interest here, just trying to pay our experience forward. Cheers!
Wow, thank you so much Jonathon!! I really appreciate it 😊
@@TalktheStreets You are very welcome! It’s all true. ✌🏼
Ola Liz! Jacqueline (my wife) and I, really love your videos. We have decided to learn Portuguese as we will be holidaying in Madeira (a place we love) regularly. We are both in our seventies but are not daunted. We are not natural linguists, so we find your videos really, really helpful. Thank you - Roger
Olá Roger and Jacqueline, that's fantastic! So glad you enjoy the channel!
My girlfriend is Portuguese and I’m trying to learn the language. Your videos are very helpful, thank you so much ❤️
Happy to hear that!
My wife is half Madeiran and slowly learning Portuguese with your help. One of your suggestions was to listen to Portuguese music and she found it really helps, plus she now has a few favorites (Ana Moura & Carolina Deslandes). We love Portugal and have been to Madeira, Porto, Lisbon, Obidos, Nazare, Fatima, and Sintra. Been having saudades again, so making plans for Douro Valley and the Algarve.
So glad she's enjoying learning with music! 😊
@@TalktheStreets What's her name? Rubina?
I will be visiting Portugal in June for 3 weeks, it will be my 3rd visit. I will see Coimbra, Porto and Algarve. I am planning to move to Portugal next year.
Maravilhoso!!
Coimbra is the best. This is where I live ;-)
Porto is just amazing 🤩 the food and wine are the best.
@@camillesolange182 Can’t wait to explore your town! Will be cycling a month in Portugal and happy to be staying in Coimbra for four days this May 👏👏🙋♀️
That’s so exciting for you! Have you narrowed down where precisely you’ll live, at least initially? Seems so many gorgeous areas, I can imagine it would be challenging to decide where
I am planning to stay in Albufeira, for a week. I’ve never been to Portugal before and I’ve been bed/housebound for the last 16 years. I never thought that I would be able to even consider travelling, so I’m super excited 😝… my health condition affects my brain, so that I can’t remember things very well or think clearly… therefore your videos are ideal for me..thanks
Hopefully you enjoyed your trip!
We are heading to Portugal for our second trip next month, I appreciate your video! Last trip we visited Lisbon to Braga, and this trip we will be traveling more to the south, from Lisbon to Tavira. We hope to retire there and want to speak your wonderful language.
Sounds exciting!! 😊
My girlfriend and I will be visiting for 10 days starting at th end of this month. It will be my girlfriends first time out of the US. So far the plan is to spend 3 days around Lisbon, then go to Evora for a 2-3 days, then end the trip in the south around Lagos before flying back from Lisbon. My only other experience traveling was 5 months in India, so I’m excited to get over into Europe for th first time.
Any suggestions (even of good places to stay in the off-season) to throw into our rough plan would be most welcomed!
Hello Liz! I found you on "THE PORTUGALIST". I am planning to retire to Portugal on the D-7, how did you manage to move to Portugal at such a young age? How did you qualify on the 'income' level? Portugal has just raised the income level, which is making it more of a challenge for those of us looking at the D-7. Thank you so much for your video's. I am returning to Portugal in 3 weeks for a small vacay, will be in Lagos and Ericeira.
Hi! I moved to Portugal in my 30s, and before Brexit, so no visa needed! You can hear more about my move here: ua-cam.com/video/zGnT5rxkiL8/v-deo.htmlsi=j73v78fX6E8k7BYN
My husband and I are visiting Portugal, including Lisbon, Coimbra, and Tamar for the first time this summer. We are looking at Portugal as a place where we might want to retire, although we currently live in the USA. I speak German as my first language, so I am hopeful that I can learn Portuguese.
Headling to Porto/Lisbon in less than three weeks. We've done Italy/France in the past two years and did ok with our limited language skills. Thanks for helping on this journey.
Sounds great!
So excited to go to Lisbon and Caiscais with some of my family members next month, August 2024.
I’ve been listening to multiple videos you have made and am thoroughly enjoying your style of teaching. Thank you! This will be a vacation so I’m trying to get a few words/phrases to practice and memorize before our trip.
Thank you!
Have fun! :)

Congrats on your channel and videos! I’m Portuguese and you explain very well how we make the sounds 👏👏 I live in the Netherlands and it was difficult to me to explain sounds like João, não, bom, because to me it’s natural , but now I have the tip of nasal sound 🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
My husband and I are visiting Portugal in September from Australia. Little daunted that I will not remember the basics.

From Hong Kong, very interested in Portuguese. Love your channel. Obrigado ~~

Perfect timing! I'm going on a cruise from 18/3/23 to 1/4/23 and two of the destinations are Madeira and Lisbon. So, I've been doing what I can to boost my beginner level European Portuguese and not embarrass myself!

Heading to Portugal for only two weeks. Lisbon, a few days down the coast in the fisherman’s trail, then a couple days to drive to Porto, back to Lisbon and home. Starting April 25. Thanks for the video!!
Plan to visit in late July, after attending our daughter’s graduation at UEA in England. Will base our travels around Porto. I have heard and read so many positive things about Portugal that I have to see for myself.
Awesome, enjoy your trip!
Obrigada from Australia!!! Your videos are incredible, especially the way you break down pronunciation and nasal sounds. My dad is from Madeira and we are heading over there for a holiday soon, I feel a lot more confident thanks to your videos :)

De nada!!
I will be down in Lisbon and Albufeira at the end of August .. Can't wait
Very exciting!
One week away from our first (exploratory) visit and super excited!
I moved to Thailand 10 years ago. I have learnt how to say in Thai the words, please, thankyou, hello, left, right, straight ahead. That's all I need. I would like to learn basic Portuguese and maybe a few more words than I know in Thai. It's going to be very obvious we are tourists when we go there though so hopefully the locals excuse our pathetic ability to speak the language. This video is a great help for that. Thank you.
Great videos! Thank you. I’m visiting Lisbon and Porto next week. These phrases will be very helpful.
Wonderful!
Thanks so much for this! We had our honey moon in Porto and all I could say was obrigado and ola 🤣 I'm gonna make sure I am better next time!! Cheers from London!!
We will be visiting a variety of cities/towns from Lisbon to Porto in October 2024. Then we’ll spend 4 days in Cascais, before returning to the US. Very excited!

Awesome!! Enjoy the Algarve!
Obrigado, I am selling up here in Wales and plan to move to Portugal, probably to somewhere fairly central. I plan to buy a caravan so I can look around before buying. Your voice is perfect, so often tutors are muffled and lack clarity.

Hi! I will be visiting Portugal next month and trying to learn the basics! I'm from Peru and talk Spanish/English but I like to make the effort (if possible) to communicate in the language of the place I'm visiting. I'm glad I discovered your channel because the content is very didactic and I already learned new words and pronunciations. For sure will be watching more videos :)
I'm so glad!
Hi Liz
Will be visiting a couple of the Azore Islands this fall. So enjoying your videos - trying to learn a few Portuguese phrases that I can use during my visit.
I'm so glad! Enjoy!

Just found your channel and I am hyped! I landed a job in a Portuguese community in New York, and I want to learn to communicate with the customers better. Don't suppose you have a video for banking terminology, lol.
Sounds great! I don't!
This was great to watch....I liked the information about the "M" at the end of words (like bom). Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is so helpful, ive been on a few holidays in the algarve and Ive picked up bits here and there, but im considering volunteering at a dog shelter in Albufeira next summer so I definitely want to learn more portuguese
Wonderful!
I am from Mexico. One thing I like about Portugal is the many greetings. Bom dia, boa tarde etc. Much like here. Whereas in Soain "ola" and "vale" right and left.
Obrigado pelo Channel; para nós e muito interessante fazer as viagems là: o povo é nobre e gentil, as cidades tem qualidades unicas, os sotaques varios tambēm.
Hi Liz, we just started your videos but we may be too late. We are travelling to Portugal in June and spending a few days in Lisbon then heading down the Algarve. We have tickets to Andrea Bocelli and looking so forward to seeing him in concert. I hope we can get by using English as we are Canadian but we are trying to be respectful and learn a few words. It is complex and I think we should have started a year ago. We will continue to watch your videos and love them. Very helpful. Thanks for what you do !!
Its never too late!
Great vid again, Liz. My biggest problem is listening and understanding when in Portugal. I suppose like any other country, the Portuguese speak so quickly and have a great tendency to contract words, eg brigad instead of obrigado. I'll get there with your help! :)
So glad you liked it! Happy to help 😊
I'm Portuguese living in the US and knew some of the language growing up because both of my parents were born in the Azores. They immigrated here in the 60's with my grandparents but needed to learn english when they came so Potuguese wasnt always spoken all the time so i never properly learned it. I visited Sāo Miguel August 2023 and fell in love with it but hated that i couldnt communicate more. I recently started using your study material on Quizlet and I watch your videos daily. They have been such a huge help. My husband and I are hoping to plan a long trip in 2025 to Libon and then back to Sāo Miguel and i hope to be able to speak more fluently by then. Any tips for Azorean Portuguese? i know some words can be different and some slang and/or accents.
That's awesome, so glad the channel has been helpful! I don't have specific tips for Azorean PT unfortunately, but I do recommend checking out my free 60-minute lesson “Speak Portuguese like a Pro” - it’s a quick start guide for total beginners covering pronunciation, real-life Portuguese & essential grammar! Love your channel. We are coming to Lisbon for the first time in September for 2 weeks in an Airbnb near Avenida Liberdade near the Edwardo VII park. We can't wait as we plan to retire and buy in that area in 3 years.
