    Hey girl! Im so happy that you're getting the word out about birth control and the way that it effects your body. I totally support handing out birth control to young women to prevent pregnancy, but we (as women) need to know more about what is happening in our bodies! Thanks for your effort!

    I know this video is old. But i'm researching this topic & creeping! I was on birth control for 2-3 years. I never really had any side effects, I just got headaches SO frequently. So I went to the doctor, and he advised I go off it because I was at risk for a stroke with my headaches. Now my face is breaking out bad. Yeah birth control helps my skin.. but it actually is kind of scary because how much it messes with your body.

    • @JaymeeLeigh
      @JaymeeLeigh 8 років тому +1

      Lexia Smith It was never considered bad. but don't be scared to come off birth control for your skin. there's so many natural ways you can control that. the reason you get acne coming off it is because birth control messes your hormones up SO BAD. it's so bad for your body. it stops your body from doing natural things. (like getting acne or a normal period) the positives sooo out weigh the negatives. my skin has gotten a lot better though :) it just takes your body a bit to get back to normal from pumping it with all those brutal hormones.

    Hi Tracey Trinh! I couldn't reply to your actual comment, but I hope this response gets to you either way. For me personally getting off of the pill was a breeze, and my hormones rebalanced quite quickly, resulting in regular periods. I originally went on the pill at 18 because I had heavy, painful nine day long periods, and I thought going on hormonal birth control was the solution. But ever since coming off, learning the fertility awareness method and about what was actually happening in my body, and the importance of it, I have found that I actually like getting my period. It's now around five days long and the cramps barely bother me anymore. All in all, I think that if you're wanting to get off of it, and don't have a serious medical condition behind your reason behind being on it in the first place, then go off of it, give you body 6-12 months and see how you feel. And of course, learn about your body in that time. I bet you'll be surprised!

    Okay, I must be the only woman whose birth control has not affected her in anyway negatively! I got on birth control last year and I had light periods or no period at all. My libido was still normal, my face cleared up, I didn't gain or loss any weight whatsoever. But I stopped taking mine simply because I completely forget to take them at the same time everyday and just said to hell with it. It's been about a month and I fell perfectly fine and the same as I was on the pill. But birth control effects EVERY woman differently - some positive, some negative. You just have to find the perfect one that works for you!! Plenty of options available to you! :)

    • @FemmeHead
      @FemmeHead  8 років тому +11

      +Gabryelle Sutton I'm so happy to hear that it worked for you! I agree that it affects every female differently. For me it was negatively. I'm all about choice, but unfortunately, I think women aren't given enough information to make an informed decision when getting on birth control. But I think that now that we're starting to discuss it, the information will be out there so every woman can find what's right for them.

    • @ashachase2010
      @ashachase2010 8 років тому

      +Billythachikk Not true. Anything that you take, at least that I take I read that little pamphlet from cover to cover. I want to know what the side effects are for anything I put into my body. The issue is doctors and pharmaceutical companies have made it seem as if taking the pill is the most normal thing to do when it isn't. Your body has it's own cycle. Unless you have other underlying problems with your menstrual cycle, why take a birth control pill that affects your natural hormonal levels? And if people would really stop and think about how the body works, if you change one thing in it, most likely you can and may affect something else. The body is an entire system. You may study it as the reproductive cycle or the cardiovascular cycle but your body is doesn't work separately in that way. Everything is connected. If something is out of whack in one, and this continues long enough, of course you can affect other systems in the body.

    Birth control is kind of tricky because for people using it for medical reasons, it does more good than harm I believe. I got on birth control at the age of 16 (my doctor suggested it without me even requesting) because I had a period for 2 months straight and it was so heavy I was changing pads/tampons like every 2 hours. For me, hormonal birth control was my only easy option. At the time, i was pretty young so they didn't order any hormone tests because I wasn't looking to get pregnant. Birth control has done wonders for me. Despite slight weight gain (I gained 10 lbs. but i'm already underweight) and a few acne breakouts, birth control has been an AMAZING option for me. If you do not have a history of cancer or other problems causes by BC (clots for example), your risk only becomes slightly higher. For me, the birth control benefits outweigh the risks. HOWEVER, i think this video is very informative and if women have a regular period (regular hormones) and are looking to prevent pregnancy, there are so many other options out there rather than hormonal birth control. From what I've heard from other's, birth control messes with women with naturally stabilized hormones rather than women with hormonal imbalances.

    This I great that women are questioning why they are on a medication and what it does to their bodies. As a health care professional this is something I strive to do with every patient.
    However, much of the information presented in this video is misinformed and taken out of context. Without understanding the pathophysiology of the medication it is confusing and misleading. There is so much information out there that is not necessarily true or completely correct. This is not to blame you, rather prove that it is easily interpreted, which is a concern for women doing 'research'.
    For example, yes, there is an increased risk of plaque build up. BUT this is not in your mouth. This is in your arteries. In young and healthy people this is not a serious issue. However it is important to monitor your health in conjunction with a doctor and have routine blood tests periodically to assess and identify any dangerous changes in your blood.
    It is alarming that some brands can have very dangerous side effects and risks. But responsible doctors will base treatment on their educational understanding and recent and reliable evidence published.
    I have been on the pill for five years and there are some side effects. However the period we experience when taking sugar pills is indeed real. Our period is the evacuation of blood from our uterus. The purpose of the blood in the first place is to allow an fertilized egg and later embryo to grow and form a placenta. The pill stops an egg from being released and therefore prevents pregnancy. But the lining still exists and once the levels of hormones drop, we get a period. This is not completely different from what it bodies do naturally.
    The natural family planning method is a great consideration and I think it's great you have learned about this. I am a Christian but not catholic so I definitely see the value of this. I do believe that contraceptive pills have a purpose and I have used it to relieve symptoms of endometriosis and the benefits have far outweighed the negatives. It is important to understand that the primary purpose of sex is to procreate. So it is vital to understand how this works and how to prevent or plan a pregnancy.
    The pill itself does not actually cause weight gain but the increase in hormones can change appetite and cravings. Which makes us want to eat more and we put in more weight. Currently there are no compelling or credible peer-reviewed articles that support the theory mentioned in the video.
    In any case, it is encouraging to see people show interest in learning about their medications and what it means for them. While this is often over prescribed I would always ask my doctor the questions first as they really do know much more than we do and can put into context the things we read or research on our own. Being on the pill is effective in the right cases but not the best option for others. Just speak to your doctor first before making any assumptions or health care decisions!
    No judgement here, I just feel very passionate about getting the right facts out there.

I just stopped taking it a few months ago because my doc was a little concerned about my increased risk of blood clots... Girl - within like 3 weeks, I went from having almost NO libido, to feeling like a "normal" person again. I always thought that I just naturally had a lower sex drive than others, but in reality, the pill completely killed it! **Note: I think the pill is one of the most important inventions in women's history because it (finally) gave women the ability to choose if and when they wanted to have children. Please don't read my comment and think that birth control is "bad" or that you should stop taking it. This is just my personal experience and you should always talk to your doc before starting or stopping any med you are taking.

I never went back because ever since my mood has become more and more stable and my weight went back to normal. While taking pills and shots I struggled with depression and moodiness and I had a "puffed" up appearance. It took about 6 months to get a period again and I didn't have a regular period until I went vegan and cut out all animal products. There are hormones in cheese and milk and eggs, even if they are from organic "happy" animals without added hormones.

    I'm 20 and I've never been on birth control but I am happy to say that with a healthy fertility diet I have been able to have regular periods with about a month between each one. I have almost no cramps and they are not too heavy at all. I've always missed periods in the past, having a period only every 2 months at the earliest. The longest I went without a period was about 4 months (the doctor says to have no more than 3 months between each period, but really a healthy one is about 28-30 days I think) and after that I realized how unhealthy I was and started figuring out how to induce my period through diet. The biggest change was cutting out excess sugar, which I believe has an incredibly negative effect on hormones for both men and women. I also take natural supplements such as saw palmetto, iron, selenium, and vitamin D to my hormones and reduce facial hair on my throat, which is a sign of hormonal imbalance.

I admit that I cheat a lot by eating refined carbs such as pizza crust and bagels because I'm in college and there's not a lot of choices, but one thing I can control is not eating things like cookies or ice cream every day, but just once a week.

    You've made some great points, and I think this video deserves a thumbs up. Id'e like to ask however when you brought up Catholics, you mentioned that Catholics being against birth control. Aren't all Christians against birth control? To be Christian means to believe in all things God created as perfect. And when your on birth control, you said it, it literally alters the human body. So it alters it from what 'God' made its function to be. I'm not saying I'm christian or that I'm not, I'm simply saying from a logic point of view, that it would only make sense for EVERYONE who believes in God to be against the pill. Right?

    • @laurac3962
      @laurac3962 8 років тому +2

      Hi,
      I am a Christian and I think what you have mentioned is definitely on the right track.
      I personally use the pill for other health reasons and it is very useful at this stage in my life. As a Christian I believe that sex was made by god for us to have babies and an intimate relationship with our partners. So that means i have chosen not to have sex before I am married because I respect and love my partner and god and know that god only wants the best for me. For this reason, I know that this will bring me the most happiness in the end. Ever wondered why there is so much pain and heart break when a relationship fails? It's because that's not the way relationships were designed to be! Love is so powerful and adding physical love to that is amazing and really is a gift from god. It's not dirty or wrong but it was designed for a purpose. And that's only good.
      Anyway my point is that many Catholics do have the stereotypical view on this, but many christians
      Just don't need to consider birth control because in a marriage you usually don't need to prevent pregnancy. Or, natural family planning might be used. For some birth control is the best option for them as well. Either way we aim to with what god is prompting us to do in terms of whether or not to have kids or not. We aren't here to judge people who don't share this view but it is something to consider.
      And I hope I don't sound crazy, I became a Christian two years ago by my own free will and Boone in my family is a Christian. I came from the exact view you might have. But now I fell so free and the world is beautiful and makes so much more sense! And things like this are important to discuss among Christian's or non christians.
      There are definitely some hard core Catholics that get a bit carried away with things like this but we just want to follow the example of Jesus and teachings of god that ultimately is like a moral compass built into all of us.

    • @nes868
      @nes868 6 років тому +1

      No, many Christians... including Catholics use all sorts of birth control (which is wrong). We cooperate with God because he has chosen to let us play a part in procreation. Intentionally/directly either forcing or prohibiting life is pushing God aside and not cooperating with his plan.

    • @adriannaz7954
      @adriannaz7954 6 років тому

      HoustonEmpire Christian here: want to clarify some things for you. First off: Christians don’t believe all things created are perfect, it’s that they were designed perfect. Humans were made in the image of God, but sin corrupted our consciences and we make mistakes. (Metaphorically, if you drive drunk and drive off a cliff, it’s not the cars fault.)
      In addition, scientifically an unfertilized egg is not life, anymore are you eating an infant chicken by eating an omelet. Thus hormonal birth control is preventing conception and beginnings of life with the sperm. If the egg was alive, we would call every period a miscarriage.

Not to mention suddenly having bowl issues, increased anxiety, weight gain, increased anxiety, low libido.... what the heck. I think I know what the issue may be now

    So glad I found this video and am reading comments from other women experiencing the same shit I am. I mean I’m not glad other people are experiencing it, I’m just glad to know I’m not the only one. When you look it up online, there’s anecdotal evidence but every article always says there’s no definitive link between bc and depression, so that always kinda negates all the anecdotal evidence for me and discourages me because I’m like ugh if it’s not the pill then wtf is making me so depressed?! Anyway, reading all these comments has made me feel more encouraged to at least try coming off the pill for a few months to see if it helps. Of course my periods will go back to being heavy af and I’ll get cramps again for the first time in years, but hey, if I can feel normal 3 weeks out of the month, I’ll take the one week where I don’t feel great. I also feel like no matter how much I work out and eat right, my body is kind of stuck at a certain weight and it will not budge. It’s super discouraging to work out 5-6 times a week, eat a mostly whole food diet, and still feel fat. I’m sooooo over this, I’m actually excited to stop taking my pill.

    the placebo pills are actually there to keep you in the habit of taking a pill. Plus make sure your hormone balance stays level (hence the body doesn't produce too much or not enough oestrogen).

    Hi!!! I am so glad that I came across your channel. You inspired me to get off birth control that I’ve been taking since I was 14. I am 22 now and I’ve been tracking my period now for almost 2 years! You made me think of so much stuff! I didn’t know I could only get pregnant a few days out of the month and I knew nothing about my cycle! I’ve been medication free completely and it feels great not being on birth control! I want to thank you so much! I kind of strayed away from your channel since then but has to find you again to thank you. You really brought this situation to my attention. You changed my life is a huge way! I have to go watch all your videos now. So for anyone out there I’ve been tracking for a long time now and I’m sexually actively and I’ve never had one scare. My body regulated a few months after so it’s easy to keep track. Anyways thank you soooo much. You’re badass. I owe you one.

    med student here giving some perspective: doctors don't explain everything bc the average person wouldn't understand what they're even talking about. something that we study for years can't just be explained in simple terms in 5 minutes...you'd need a full on powerpoint and visuals and terms :)) and actually, the chance of breast cancer is very VERY slim. it actually protects against endometrial & ovarian cancer

    Hey Victoria! Love your videos and all of your efforts to share this info with those of us who don't know. I'm super intrigued by this and wondering where you found some of this info? Any specific books / websites? Particularly the bits about synthetic hormones in Nazi Germany and hormonal bc being classified as a class 1 carcinogen?

    Would you find out how long it takes for a young girl's period to "regulate"? If you hadn't started the Pill at age 18, isn't it possible and likely that your cycle would have become more regular soon? It's normal for the first few years of menses to be irregular, just as it's normal for the last few to be irregular. The body is making a huge adjustment, perhaps more so during puberty than menopause.

    Birth control cleared my skin so quickly, in like 2 months, and i also use it bc i am in a long term relationship. I never had depression or any negative side effects except I dislike my periods on the pill. So I'm planning on getting the iud soon & so afraid my acne will return. Hope its worth it ☹️️

    very informative. its too bad we only get motivated to research after we've already suffered the harsh realities -- that's what happened to me anyway after taking the pill/the implant. I'm so mad at myself for falling into the trap. I never wanted BC. For years, I had avoided it whenever the doctors asked. but after worsening periods over the years, the first thing they suggest is BC. So I finally accepted it & It literally has been nothing but a nightmare since then.

    Thank you for making this video! I'm getting the nexplanon taken out of my arm next week because I have been having my period every two weeks for the last 5 months! Since doing some research and watching videos like yours I've decided That I'm going to quit taking hormonal birth control and let my body just go back to normal (considering before the pill or nexplanon I didn't have any issues with my cycle I just thought I had to go on hormonal birth control in order to be a responsible woman) and I couldn't be happier about it!

    I HAD TO STOP THE PILL BECAUSE I WOULD SPOT, PERIOD, STOP BLEEDING, START SPOTTING LIKE A WEEK LATER WHICH GOT WORSE UNTIL MY PERIOD ACTUALLY STARTED AGAIN. SO BASICALLY I WAS BLEEDING FOR THREE WEEKS OUT OF EVERY FOUR. HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO EVEN WANT TO HAVE SEX WHEN YOU ARE BLEEDING ALL THE TIME? I AM NOT OPPOSED TO PERIOD SEX (HAD PERIOD SEX LAST NIGHT ACTUALLY), BUT WHEN IT IS CONSTANT, IT IS JUST NOT FUN

    Ive been taking it for about a year and I just made the decision to stop a few days ago because I was so depressed and down and easily upset just like you. It was affecting my relationship and I hated it. I am naturally bubbly and outgoing and I became antisocial and cried all the time. I can't wait to get my natural cycle back.
